To flick my daughter the V behind her back?

For context, she's 8 (going on 15 with the attitude and arguing that black is white just for the sake of it) she made some such comment on the way home from school today so I flicked her the v out of pure frustration!

She didn't see. (And even if she did probably has no idea what it means)

BUT.... another mother in the school run saw and I got the filthiest look! Confused

OP posts:

I’ve done it loads , just make sure no one see you 🤣

FTEngineerM · 11/02/2022 22:27

So; the people who have never ever everrrr sworn/flicked the v/borked internally.. what do you do to ‘let off steam’?

Or are you the perfectly refined female and only speak when spoken to?

I find it amusing that so many couldn’t bare thinking about swearing, it’s pretty cathartic, give it a go.

DearlyBeloathed · 11/02/2022 22:45

Would you do this to your OH in public?

100%

PrivateHall · 11/02/2022 22:47

OP if I had saw you do it I would have went out of my way to make friends with you. Ignore that mum, you are just being human.

speakout · 11/02/2022 22:48

Anyone who says they haven't done it is lying.

What authority gives you the right to say this?

I know for a fact 100% that I have never done this to my children.

Passtherioja · 11/02/2022 23:37

Oh my!! All the time when they were younger. Then progressed to flicking the V whilst mouthing "fuck off." They're now mid-teens and flicking the V or middle finger is now an art form in our house and commonly accepted as a term of endearment.

I'll add that as a household we would never swear at each other. Purely comedic effect!

GrandTheftWalrus · 11/02/2022 23:45

I put my 5yo to bed tonight. Lovingly tucked her in and went out her room and then flicked the Vs through the door because she had been an arsehole earlier and screamed so loud because I turned the telly off that she scared the baby.

Mo1911 · 11/02/2022 23:49

I honestly can't believe this thread and how common this behaviour seems to be. I despair of people doing this to their children. For goodness sake grow up and get a grip! What chance do your children stand with your behaviours as an example!!!

That's the point of doing it behind their back ... duh.
RussianSpy101 · 11/02/2022 23:52

@DearlyBeloathed exactly what I was about to say 😂😂😂😂

AmadeustheAlpaca · 12/02/2022 00:04

@speakout I normally disagree with most of your posts (though some of your witchy ones are interesting) but I totally agree with you on this occasion. I have never done this to any of my children, think it’s pathetic and nasty.

GrandTheftWalrus · 12/02/2022 00:05

Unless my 5yo has developed xray vision and can see through her door I'm sure she's fine.

Flavabobble · 12/02/2022 00:11

Nope, never done that. I don't believe for a moment that it's particularly common either.

leosayershair · 12/02/2022 00:18

Not in public but yes many times & not just limited to DC

In public I find my face mask very useful to mouth fuck off if needs be. I will miss that about restrictions

Veryverysadandold · 12/02/2022 00:18

I frequently do this to DP through the door, and when having a bad day at work I'll go to the toilet and do the v dance towards the entire building while mouthing fuck off. Highly recommended.

AnAussieMum · 12/02/2022 01:48

I recon that other mum will give it a shot one day then hunt you down to thank you once she realises how good it feels.

Question though what is the difference between the one finger and 2 finger ? Do they both mean the same thing.

Love the 1 finger behind my girls backs. I have 3 it happens often behind closed doors.

AnnaK163 · 12/02/2022 02:24

I can't believe anyone does this to their kids or family behind their backs - do they really?

PrettyBluebells · 12/02/2022 02:43

I used to drop my ds at school, most mornings as soon as the car door shut I'd say "prick", very loudly! Some mornings I'd have shouted it several times by the time I'd got to the end of the road. He's 20 now and although I don't drop him at school anymore I've been known to mouth it behind his back 🤣

CristinaYangismySpiritAnimal · 12/02/2022 02:47

I shouted ‘fuck you too’ at my daughter’s back the other week - I was in the car and she had walked away, so no one heard, but I felt better.

A really good chance, thanks for asking.
HarlanPepper · 12/02/2022 06:38

I do this with my 14 year old as she strops out of the door. It is very therapeutic.

Where's the V sign emoji when you need one.
CantChatNow · 12/02/2022 06:44

I do this at the bottom of the stairs when I’ve had a load of bollocks off one of my kids and they’ve buggered off to their room. Usually with a little angry dance which helps get some frustration out!

CantChatNow · 12/02/2022 06:46

I also find Ross’s fist whacking swear from friends quite helpful

Username182373737373 · 12/02/2022 07:09

Haha this made me laugh so much.
I have done this before or made some sort of distorted facial expression towards her when she couldn’t see me to give myself some temporary relief.
I think it’s good to find lighthearted ways of dealing with the attitude sometimes.
If you’ve ever watched Motherland - this reminds me of something Julia would do.
That woman is a bit of all us of deep down! Grin
