To hate my lounge carpet? Honest opinions on my lounge carpet that was laid yesterday

We wanted something neutral but practical as we have two dogs. So we chose this one which was laid yesterday. Because its two tone it looks totally different in my lounge than it did in the showroom! We even took a small sample home!

My heart sank when the fitters left. It looks like it can't decide what colour it is..it's a kind of mink at night and during the day it has a silver/grey look to it. We had the same carpet laid in our bedroom which looks stunning as our bedroom is a champagne/ dark brown theme. But in the lounge against the pastel colours of the ottoman and mauve curtains I just don't know what to think. Honest opinions please and also some ideas on tweaks on what I can do?

Get a giant rug to hide it? Sorry can't help but I agree - it looks like someone has hoovered it in all different directions

CheesusTheSaviour · 04/02/2022 10:47

It looks lovely! Enjoy it

ChittyBangs · 04/02/2022 10:47

I like it.
Just change colour of your curtains and cushions to something neutral or deeper

Nothingfree · 04/02/2022 10:47

I think it's lovely 😍

Babymamamama · 04/02/2022 10:48

It looks very patchy to me. Like it needs to be hoovered all in one direction. I can’t work out if that’s the intention. Could you put a rug over it? Go for a layered effect?

BoodleBug51 · 04/02/2022 10:49

It just needs the pile to flatten a little, that's all. When we had ours laid, I hated the colour as the fleck in the twists was really dominant but a month later it looked much better.

NoSquirrels · 04/02/2022 10:50

Hmm, yes I think I agree with you.
It’s the wrong tone for your soft furnishings, which are warmer.
It looks good with the grey chair, but not the yellow/cream sofa or checked ottoman.

Recovering soft furnishings more expensive than relaying?

You’ll probably get used to it!

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 04/02/2022 10:51

I love it. It is a good basic neutral colour, pretty much what I have in my house and I add rugs, colour and soft furnishings to make it home.
They all look like that when you first get them, after a few months the pile settles down.

ihateliningup · 04/02/2022 10:53

I like it!

premiumcogd · 04/02/2022 10:53

My first thought was also that someone has hoovered in all different directions - give it time to flatten but yes I would suggest a rug also

So frustrating for you op.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/02/2022 10:54

I think it’s nice - goes with the room!

I have a grey colour everywhere upstairs but your room needs that slightly earthier tone

thisplaceisweird · 04/02/2022 10:55

It looks fine? Every piece of furniture in your room is a different colour and tone anyway, nothing is going to bring that together

Evanted76 · 04/02/2022 10:56

We let it settle for an hour and hoovered yesterday afternoon to get the bits up after fitting. Where would you put the rug? I was hoping that it was just the fact that I'm not used to it as the previous carpet was cream and not two tone. I'm gutted! Cost us a fortune!

I like the colour, it goes with your grey chair but not the yellowish sofa.
But it doesn't look too bad, I think a rug with grey and the yellowish cream might be the way to go.

KerrrrrrrChingADing · 04/02/2022 11:02

don't put a rug down , it will look too fussy. the carpet looks lovely, you are just not used to it yet

Mindymomo · 04/02/2022 11:02

I think it’s very nice, looks good quality (I worked for large carpet contractor for a number of years). We have a dog and a brown twist good quality carpet, it’s horrible and would love to change it to something like yours. Give it time.

CheesecakeHeaven · 04/02/2022 11:03

I think it looks really lovely. To me it looks fine with your grey chair and the curtains but not the sofa and ottoman. Is it possible to change these instead? And cheaper? I think you'll get used to the carpet!
Rugs can also be pricey and I think it would be a mission in itself to find one that will tie all of those colours together.

CounsellorTroi · 04/02/2022 11:03

I think it’s lovely.

Aroundtheroaringcandle · 04/02/2022 11:06

I think it is absolutely gorgeous and I am very jealous as I sit here on my rubbish carpet! You’ll get used to it Smile

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 04/02/2022 11:06

I like it. Give it some time,. I am sure you will like it too.

ScribblingPixie · 04/02/2022 11:06

I think it just needs some time & a few additions to calm down a bit. I like the way it looks with your cream cabinet so I'd put in some inexpensive creamy cushions with patterns so it doesn't dominate. It looks lovely & comfy to me.

ApolloandDaphne · 04/02/2022 11:06

If you have yellow labs then you will come to love it. We have a carpet that sort of colour and it hides the dog hairs wonderfully!

Porcupineintherough · 04/02/2022 11:07

It's fine but yes I dont think it goes particularly w your browser furnishings. I'd give it a month to let it settle then reconsider.

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 04/02/2022 11:09

I like it.
I think you just need time to get used to the new look, if it's a dramatic change.

CatJumperTwat · 04/02/2022 11:09

I didn't like it in the close up but in the wider shot it looks great. The whole room looks modern but also very cosy. Will you come and design my house? Smile
