To hate my lounge carpet? Honest opinions on my lounge carpet that was laid yesterday

We wanted something neutral but practical as we have two dogs. So we chose this one which was laid yesterday. Because its two tone it looks totally different in my lounge than it did in the showroom! We even took a small sample home!

My heart sank when the fitters left. It looks like it can't decide what colour it is..it's a kind of mink at night and during the day it has a silver/grey look to it. We had the same carpet laid in our bedroom which looks stunning as our bedroom is a champagne/ dark brown theme. But in the lounge against the pastel colours of the ottoman and mauve curtains I just don't know what to think. Honest opinions please and also some ideas on tweaks on what I can do?

Honestly, it's a perfectly fine carpet. I wouldn't walk into your home and think 'Oh, dreadful carpet, it doesn't match the chair'

It doesn't look out of place, you kind of don't notice it tbh. I think that's a good thing.

Oblomov22 · 05/02/2022 13:30

I'm not keen but then I prefer a carpet that is a lot more beige or cream with less brown. Ours is very light, but I've always had a carpet this light and even when ds's tiny, it wasn't a problem.
Definitely hoover it again.

2nd photo of the hoovering lines, makes it look fab.

ItsSunnyOutside · 05/02/2022 13:42

I've just seen your update pics op, in a different light, the carpet looks lighter and looks really good, you can tell it's good quality. Nothing wrong with it imo.

Exactly this. Looks great in later photos.

It's lovely, sometimes I think you can overthink it. I'd be really happy with it.

Derrymum123 · 05/02/2022 16:12

I love it. Looks very nice with your furnishings. Give it a few weeks and see how you feel. It has been fitted well.

Sarahlou252 · 05/02/2022 17:37

I think that looks absolutely beautiful, so cosy and warm looking. I think you have absolutely nothing to worry about!

timeforteaforyouandme · 05/02/2022 22:18

Move the ottoman and cushions into another room temporarily and see if it looks better without those colours.

SquirrelG · 05/02/2022 22:25

I like it and I'm sure you will too once you get used to it.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 05/02/2022 23:12

@MeSanniesareBrannies my apologies, clearly OP liked it enough in the shop to order it for two rooms and is now having a wobble. Coming on and roasting her interior design choices with ‘it doesn’t match’ or ‘it’s too neutral’ based on nothing more than that posters opinion is rude IMO.

Bit different to say it’s not to my taste but it’s ok.

goingtotown · 05/02/2022 23:22

The tread marks look awful.

CorsicaDreaming · 06/02/2022 08:57

Carpet is fine and looks really lovely with the grey chair in your window.

To my mind the tones and glamorous style of that chair and carpet are very different from the more country style and warm tones of the ottoman and sofas.

I like all bits individually but it feels a bit like a room with a split personality- half cosy country vibe with warm tones, half glamorous evening vibe with cooler tones.

Tricky one - re-covering or changing ottoman to something more like the colour of your dark scatter cushions or to match the grey chair could work, and adding throws to sofas?

CorsicaDreaming · 06/02/2022 09:01

To be honest I think it's just the tonal colours and checked style of the ottoman that means it doesn't all pull together. I wonder about a plain colour matching your curtains for that - or the grey of the chair. And then patterns on scatter cushions if you then feel it's too plain (but I think it could then all just gel fine).

Dinosaurwoman · 06/02/2022 09:22

I love it, can you put in a link for it, also love everything else about your room.

Update

I'm going down to see the manager this morning to "see what he can do" about choosing another carpet.

When they came to fit the bedroom carpet, the fitters realised that the bedroom carpet hasn't been measured properly by the estimator. So they are having to reorder a replacement for the bedroom. They have used the carpet that came to cover the floor temporarily as they had already ripped up the original carpet. I'm going to suggest they use the lounge carpet as the replacement for the bedroom as the lounge is twice the size instead of them footing the bill for another load of carpet.

And then hopefully we can come to some agreement for choosing an alternative carpet for the lounge.

They didnt fit the LVT flooring properly in the hallway and study a couple of months ago so all that is having to be ripped up next week and replaced so hopefully although the fact I don't like the lounge carpet isn't their fault, they will be trying to do all they can to keep me happy in view of all the other cock ups caused by them. Hopefully anyway!

What colour would work in the lounge if I am able to choose a new carpet? I didn't know anything about cool and warm tones before starting this thread! Apparently you can mix them though but only certain colours!

I think the carpet is nice, what might be jarring you is the more modern silvery colour in the carpet against the traditional creaminess in some of the other furnishings. I think the ottoman highlights it. I'd relocate the ottoman, maybe get one to match the grey chair and get some cushions in the mink and silver from the carpet to link it together more? It's lovely carpet and furnishings they just need drawing together.

BoodleBug51 · 06/02/2022 09:43

You'll get those shiny hoover lines in any polyprop carpet.

We've got dogs(spaniels too), and have got an 80/20 wool twist. It's got a fleck through it and is very forgiving. It's been down nearly 8 years and still looks great.

TWmover · 06/02/2022 09:44

Sorry just saw your update about re-fitting it in the bedroom. For the lounge, a beige without the silver colour and without the two tone if you don't like that aspect.

BBCONEANDTWO · 06/02/2022 09:44

It's lovely I don't see anything wrong with it and I love your living room. I get very fed up of everything being white and beige. That fireplace is stunning.

TatianaBis · 06/02/2022 09:47

That’s a great idea OP, although I doubt you’ll get a free drawing room carpet out of them.

I would just do a standard neutral beige. I notice pic where the carpet looked more grey looks better than the one where it looks more brown.

I would also not do 100% nylon/polypropylene, but a wool blend.

SweetPotatoDumpling · 06/02/2022 10:08

I really like it OP (not just saying that!). I think it has real depth and the tones look lush with your grey chair and curtains.

SweetPotatoDumpling · 06/02/2022 10:10

(Honest opinion though...I really don't like the checked ottoman and would get rid!)

I can all but try!

I agree with you about the grey looking better than the brown.

This sort of colour would work OP if your looking to change (a heather/plum shade).
