To hate my lounge carpet? Honest opinions on my lounge carpet that was laid yesterday

We wanted something neutral but practical as we have two dogs. So we chose this one which was laid yesterday. Because its two tone it looks totally different in my lounge than it did in the showroom! We even took a small sample home!

My heart sank when the fitters left. It looks like it can't decide what colour it is..it's a kind of mink at night and during the day it has a silver/grey look to it. We had the same carpet laid in our bedroom which looks stunning as our bedroom is a champagne/ dark brown theme. But in the lounge against the pastel colours of the ottoman and mauve curtains I just don't know what to think. Honest opinions please and also some ideas on tweaks on what I can do?

It's a really practical colour and looks like good quality soft pile. You'll get used to it and the pile will settle a bit to get a bit less two-tone.

HunkyPunk · 04/02/2022 12:20

I think the second photo you’ve just posted show the room in a completely different light, literally! It all looks like it ties in together much more, even the ottoman! Looks lovely, I think.

Fabulousforests20 · 04/02/2022 12:21

It looks expensive but the pile looks really all over the place and the colour doesn’t suit your sofa . Sorry !!

I'm not keen on it. Perhaps if you hoovered it so pile lay in same direction. It must be so annoying if it was expensive. Carpets never look the same in shop as in a home. That is why with 2 dogs and 3 cats I stick to a wooden floor. Easy to clean.

Yuckypretty · 04/02/2022 12:26

I think it's gorgeous. It looks warm and cosy.

prettyteapotsplease · 04/02/2022 12:27

It's serviceable, neutral and easy on the eye, so I'd say enjoy it.

ADisgruntledPelican · 04/02/2022 12:27

Awe the dogs are gorgeous!

I think the problem with the carpet is that the previous one was cream and as a PP said, the ottoman looks different against the new colour. With the lighting in your first pic, I suggested cushion and curtains to match the colour and/or texture of the carpet. But in the second post with pics, it looks as though the carpet dulls the room and that the solution would be to swap in bolder colours on the curtains and cushions.

Live with it for 2 weeks, seeing it in all shades of light and then bring in samples for cushions/curtain/ottoman to see what works.

prettyteapotsplease · 04/02/2022 12:28

And the rest of the room is lovely BTW.

ComeOnSpringtime · 04/02/2022 12:28

It looks a bit odd - the deeper coloured prints look like feet prints and in general, it reminds me of sand.

Oddly, I love it. It's my type of carpet in a busy lounge. Looks cosy.

On a different note, @Evanted76 may I ask for the measurement of the room? It's just the size I've been trying to use for something and I'll appreciate the info if you can. Of course you don't have to. Thanks.

HunkyPunk · 04/02/2022 12:29

Aw! How can you fret about a carpet with those two? Smile
I really wouldn’t change anything in the room until you’ve lived with it for a couple of weeks. I’m sure it’ll grow on you.

DavetheCat2001 · 04/02/2022 12:29

@Evanted76 I had exactly the same wobble about the carpet I chose for our bedroom just before Xmas!

As it's a shaggy pile like yours, it looks 'blobby' and messy when first laid.

It still looks a bit like that, but it's lovely to walk on and you do get used to it!

It looks so much different in the update photo! I quite like it in the last photo.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 04/02/2022 12:33

I like it op...it looks good quality.

What gorgeous gorgeous dogs!!!

I don’t really like your carpet. I’m so sorry.

Mamamia7962 · 04/02/2022 12:39

It looks lovely. All new carpets that are deep pile look different depending which way they're hoovered.

Gizacluethen · 04/02/2022 12:41

I like it.

TatianaBis · 04/02/2022 12:49

It's not a disaster OP, I've seen far worse carpet disasters than this on MN - one was bright purple.

As a general rule - if you're paying a lot for a carpet it's better to go for wool blend (imo).

Roselilly36 · 04/02/2022 12:49

Looks lovely, dogs are gorgeous they look happy with it, nice and soft on the paws 🐾

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 04/02/2022 12:50

You chose it. You took a sample home and you paid for it.

What are you actually moaning about?

HelloFrostyMorning · 04/02/2022 12:50

Not a fan sorry.

stuntbubbles · 04/02/2022 12:50

I don’t love it but taste is subjective, innit?

Stircrazyschoolmum · 04/02/2022 12:51

Replace the ottoman and buy throws for the sofa? The ottoman is the biggest culprit as it’s in the centre of the room. Take it out and see if your view changes?

Greyhare · 04/02/2022 12:53

I'm also in the don't like camp, sorry, the colour is fine, it's the two tone that I don't like, it looks like it has been badly cleaned, I would put a huge rug down in front of the fire place to cover the vast expanse of carpet under the ottoman.

Daisydolly1986 · 04/02/2022 12:53

I like it, it will hide a multitude of sins. I think a rug will be your best bet to cover it up if you really dislike it.
