To hate my lounge carpet? Honest opinions on my lounge carpet that was laid yesterday

We wanted something neutral but practical as we have two dogs. So we chose this one which was laid yesterday. Because its two tone it looks totally different in my lounge than it did in the showroom! We even took a small sample home!

My heart sank when the fitters left. It looks like it can't decide what colour it is..it's a kind of mink at night and during the day it has a silver/grey look to it. We had the same carpet laid in our bedroom which looks stunning as our bedroom is a champagne/ dark brown theme. But in the lounge against the pastel colours of the ottoman and mauve curtains I just don't know what to think. Honest opinions please and also some ideas on tweaks on what I can do?

Now that you've paid for it and had it fitted Id learn to live with it if it were me. Its not as you were hoping but it looks fine.

MayBMaybenot · 04/02/2022 11:10

Sorry, but I'm with you OP. It looks like it needs hoovering; all those blotchy bits - which /I know are part of the pattern - would really annoy me. It might look better when it's settled a bit. It's also a bit too "brown" for your other furniture.

Crumbleburntbits · 04/02/2022 11:10

I like it!

NoSquirrels · 04/02/2022 11:11

I would

Change the curtains to something that is closer to the sofa colour, perhaps with a grey in it too. Like this?

Change the cushions to grey-toned.

Add a very large grey tray (where you have the small one) on the ottoman.

I genuinely really like it.

I don't think there's anything to dislike about it, although I don't think it's a practical colour with two dogs.

Appleseesaw · 04/02/2022 11:13

I like it. I think the carpet looks very luxurious and soft. It’s a nice neutral colour and not too dark or too light. I would change the furnishings before I changed the carpet, however my tastes are likely very different from yours!

Kitsmummy · 04/02/2022 11:14

I also hate it! It looks like a patterned granny carpet.

Can you take it up and put it down in a different room where it might look I like it does upstairs?

Dahlietta · 04/02/2022 11:14

I think it's fine. You're overthinking it (understandably!) because it's new, but eventually you won't be looking at it so intently.

CocoPancakes · 04/02/2022 11:15

I don't like it. Sorry

ThePlumVan · 04/02/2022 11:15

@BoodleBug51 nah, you’ve just got use to it. You’ve gone fleck-blind Grin

😂 a granny is like this.

It's a thick pile so brushes in different directions

I’d get a big cream carpet type rug - Wayfair do them cheaply. They can be cleaned fairly easily.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 04/02/2022 11:18

I don't love it @Evanted76 it is a bit dated looking to be honest

but really once you stop thinking about it won't it just blend in to neutrality and you will stop seeing it?

it looks too thick to put a carpet on top?

RincewindsHat · 04/02/2022 11:19

I see what you mean. I'd add a fluffy white rug under the ottoman in front of the sofas. It'll tie it together more, as you've got some white in your furniture already.

steppemum · 04/02/2022 11:22

It is a lovely carpet. Nice colour and looks thick and new and gorgeous.

But I can see what you mean about colour.
To be clear, I would walk in and go what a lovely carpet/room. But I am very fussy about colour tones and so if you are too, it will probably irritate.

The ottoman and sofa are much more yellow/cream. I think if you changed the ottoman, the sofa would be fine. Try throwing a sheet/blanket over the ottoman which is a different colour, and I think the carpet will come to life.
You either need a darker/contrast colour, or a more grey neutral.

But as I said, the impression is lovely thick nice carpet!

Thymeout · 04/02/2022 11:22

Remove the ottoman and you'll feel much better about the room. Curtains are OK. They're the same tone as the carpet. Cool. You don't want anything in a warm, orangey yellow brown. Think coffee not PGTips. Ottomans are quite easy to reupholster.

Eyesofdisarray · 04/02/2022 11:23

I love it OP. Looking for something like that for DD's room. Do you mind telling me what the colour is called?
I bet it camouflages dog hairs too!

Beautiful3 · 04/02/2022 11:23

I actually think it's nice!

irene9 · 04/02/2022 11:23

If you had come on and said 'what do you think of this Ottoman' no-one would have mentioned the carpet, because it looks absolutely fine.
I'd give it a few weeks.

drpet49 · 04/02/2022 11:23

I don’t think it looks nice at all.

Arabellla · 04/02/2022 11:24

It's lovely, it will settle in and you will be grateful it's not cream in no time at all.

steppemum · 04/02/2022 11:24

I think your soft plum coloured curtains and cushions actually go really well with it. If the ottoman was that colour it would look amazing.

I think it looks nice. Our lab clicks the carpet with her claws, it's really really annoying.
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/02/2022 11:24

Looks good. Will look better with some vacuum lines in it
