Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

@ElephantOfRisk

If she wasn't involved and she hadn't heard from you she could only conclude that it was all sorted and you were being a cheeky bitch.

Or she was involved, returned it but see that you still believe it is her.

Therefore she could only think that you still thought it was her by reading this - unless you told someone else who has spoken to her?

It's vanishingly likely that she's seen this thread. She's just the kind of savvy person who lies about parcels and shouts at neighbours. She knows she lied so is on the attack

If there really was a hooded man she'd have no need to be angry with anyone other than the courier who magically faked a photo of the parcel and her carpet.

Eleanr · 02/02/2022 18:43

@ihatesoaps she's adamant that the photo is incorrect or faked. She even accused me of editing it to "make her look bad."

@dexterslockedintheshedagain

We had this once. Delivery driver was adamant he'd delivered to the right address, despite the picture being of a completely different front door (and we sent a pic of our front door to the company). They made him go back and get it from wherever he'd delivered it to (they wouldn't tell us where) and bring it to us. His excuse? (And I quote) "I'm Romanian"! 😳😳😳
His excuse? (And I quote) "I'm Romanian"! 😳😳😳

🤣 What a ridiculous excuse, it makes no sense both countries use the western Arabic numerals 😂 Even if he meant road/house names, all you have to do is check the word matches. I’m sure I could deliver letters perfectly fine in Germany for example 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Eleanr · 02/02/2022 18:44

@IntermittentParps that's what I've said to the other neighbours. I don't want to text her again because I don't want her round at my door.

I do get that. I just don't think I'd be able to resist winding her up Grin

gettingolderandgrumpy · 02/02/2022 18:51

I would just leave it op you’ve got it back !

Eleanr · 02/02/2022 18:58

That's how I felt too, but after having her shouting at me and accusing me of all sorts, I'm in the position where I feel like I need to stand up for myself.

Hopefully your neighbours have some footage!
If she does come back again I'd tell her to piss off before you report her for attempted theft and harassment! Not sure if this is even a thing but she might not know that!

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 02/02/2022 19:43

I thought people in hoodies stole packages off your doorstep, not left them like some low rent Santa. She's obviously feeling very guilty, worrying about it being reported, and thinks you're stupid enough to fall for her bullshit if she shouts it at you.

SwishSwishBisch · 02/02/2022 19:48

I think you’re doing the right thing to try to get the real truth @Eleanr - it doesn’t have to turn into drama at all, your over the road neighbours don’t need to know about the email or ‘discussion’ with NDN.

Sideswiped · 02/02/2022 20:43

@Eleanr, she's given you the perfect excuse to go to the neighbour with the cctv and ask:
'X saw some bloke in a hoody leaving a parcel of mine that went missing, would you mind having a look to see if you have any footage?'
She's really dropped herself in it there.
And FWIW, I agree with you.
To come to your door shouting the odds (when you know she is in the wrong) is unacceptable. Nip it in the bud now.
And to repeat, put the notice on your door saying not to leave parcels at her address. All she can do about that is quietly simmer.

Your neighbour will be a social piranha if you tell everyone on NextDoor app 😛

KatherineofGaunt · 02/02/2022 22:19

Social piranha! 😂

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 02/02/2022 22:32

@Eleanr - I don't know how you feel about such things, but I'd be VERY tempted to install a ring doorbell yourself at this stage, for future protection against "random men in hoodies/low rent Santas" CF thieving neighbours

I mean, your area sounds like a hotbed of dubious behaviour!

I would definitely ask the CCTV/ring doorbell neighbour if they caught anything on camera. If it turns out it was your neighbour, she may have put on a hoodie to disguise herself but honestly, there is almost zero chance it is anyone other than her. The defensiveness and ranting alone just shows that she has something to hide!

billy1966 · 02/02/2022 22:50

The photo confirms it went to her house and her shouting at you confirms it.

Why would some random person return it, when you know it went to HER house.

Hoodie person will have done it at her bidding.

She knows well that you know and she's trying to bully you into silence.

I would want to know for sure so that you can clearly tell delivery people give her house a wide birth.

I had a Dyson delivered to me in early December and it was left on the steps up to the front door....I was not impressed.

Fortunately I came upon it quickly.

The new head on it is excellent suction wise.

AdobeWanKenobi · 02/02/2022 22:56

Not all ring cameras will record. Only if the owner pays a monthly subscription, otherwise footage can only be viewed live.

Thanks, I didn't know that.
AdobeWanKenobi · 02/02/2022 23:06

@ThumbWitchesAbroad a lot of people don't. It's not expensive for the doorbell subscription, about £2.50 a month iirc, but without that you can't review unfortunately. To be honest none of my friends who have them subscribe, they just use them for the motion alerts and to speak to people who are at the door.

That said, I did see something the other night about a new feature that alerts the ring owner if a package has been left on the doorstep, unfortunately again this is a subscription only feature though.

jytdtysrht · 03/02/2022 01:30

Her reaction says it all. She’s a thief. She only gave it back because she knew she’d have the police round otherwise.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 03/02/2022 02:23

She's psycho.
And a thief.

loopycurtains · 03/02/2022 08:31

@Sunbird24

Ha, even if other neighbours did see a random man in a hoodie leaving the parcel on your doorstep I wouldn’t be surprised if she had arranged it…
Absolutely my first thought too...
TheOccupier · 03/02/2022 09:07

What a cheeky bitch! I hope your other neighbour's camera has picked up what happened. Did you actually contact the police or did you just tell her that you had?

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 03/02/2022 09:40

You have photo evidence.. She just has a big gob...
Leave her to it op. You both know she is a thief.
