Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

I think I’d have to know for sure - this person tried to steal something worth hundreds of pounds from you.
I’d also leave special instructions on any other order I have for the delivery people “Do not leave at next door neighbours as they are thieving gits who will try to blame it on you”

NoPrivateSpy · 02/02/2022 12:37

They're chancers, OP, who thought the company would have to send a new one so you wouldn't be out of pocket. But hadn't thought about that fact you would know it was them so they can't just try to use it or sell it!

I would let it go, annoying though it is. Some people are just unhinged and you are right - you don't want to start a dispute where people take sides.

GiantKitten · 02/02/2022 17:20

[quote ThumbWitchesAbroad]Just found this, coincidentally - someone out there trying to right the wrongs perpetrated by package thieves!

Thanks for posting this! I’d seen an early one but not this refined and upgraded version. Very funny!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/02/2022 17:43

It's quite shocking that such dishonesty seems rife, and on one's doorstep! I can almost understand the logic of a passing random stranger seeing a parcel sitting there waiting to be taken (even though its wrong) and chancing their arm. But a nextdoor neighbour? Surely you're supposed to look after your 'own' within a community?

billy1966 · 02/02/2022 17:52

There is no way that I couldn't know who had delivered that package.

Eleanr · 02/02/2022 18:19

She came over and had a massive rant at me. Said she saw a "random man wearing a hoodie" drop the package at my door. She says other neighbours saw this happen too. I'm not sure why everyone was looking out their window at the same time Confused but, I'm going to ask them. Fed up now, I was willing to let it go, but I won't have someone shouting at me at my front door.

Your update has me back up on tender hooks @Eleanr!

ItsNotNormalLove · 02/02/2022 18:25

This woman is being FAR too defensive to be innocent in all this!

Sunbird24 · 02/02/2022 18:25

Ha, even if other neighbours did see a random man in a hoodie leaving the parcel on your doorstep I wouldn’t be surprised if she had arranged it…

I think it’s more common than we want to believe. I was trying to trace a lost package once, it said it’d been delivered, no photo but just said on the website when I put in the tracking ID. Went around both neighbours and a few doors down but nothing. The next day I was chatting to neighbours about it saying I’d have to report it now and then would you believe an hour or so later neighbours dropped it at our door 🤨 Literally a drop and run. I can’t prove it but honestly think they were thinking of keeping it. Courrier had it down as delivered at our house number so I’d have never found where it went.
NoneLeft2 · 02/02/2022 18:27

Lol, she knows she's been rumbled. Tell her to fuck off. A random man wearing a hoodie, eh Hmm ...sure you did Ms Sticky Fingers.

pompomseverywhere · 02/02/2022 18:27

Eek what an update OP, me eyes are on stalks!

Eleanr · 02/02/2022 18:28

The whole situation is ridiculous. Even if she did see a random man come, why come over and start shouting at me about it!?

Now I'm freaked out on the 0.01% chance that it wasn't her that someone has tampered with the parcel or been involved in some weird scam! Stupid, I know.

Well then, there is only one conclusion to come to - she has seen this thread.

cataline · 02/02/2022 18:30

I think I'd ask her which neighbours also saw - so you can check in with them about this random hooded man! Grin

She sounds crazier with each update!

solbunny · 02/02/2022 18:32

@HappyGoLuckyLuLu

I'd ask neighbour over the road to check ring doorbell & be honest about why - to check if it was CF neighbour. Other neighbour is at risk of same CF behaviour too, so this would be fair warning!
100% this!
ElephantOfRisk · 02/02/2022 18:32

If she wasn't involved and she hadn't heard from you she could only conclude that it was all sorted and you were being a cheeky bitch.

Or she was involved, returned it but see that you still believe it is her.

Therefore she could only think that you still thought it was her by reading this - unless you told someone else who has spoken to her?

Hahaha yes - say that the police need the names to take statements after you reported the theft *
  • I have no idea how police investigations work, but even if this is totally not how it works, maybe your neighbour doesn't know either 🤣
Eleanr · 02/02/2022 18:37

I've text the other two neighbours I have numbers for and I've asked them to either ask the other neighbours (if the have their number) or if they wouldn't mind passing their number to me so I can ask them.

I've broached it in a "neighbourhood security" type of way and haven't accused anyone of anything.

Didn't even think of this 😭

We had this once. Delivery driver was adamant he'd delivered to the right address, despite the picture being of a completely different front door (and we sent a pic of our front door to the company). They made him go back and get it from wherever he'd delivered it to (they wouldn't tell us where) and bring it to us.
His excuse? (And I quote) "I'm Romanian"! 😳😳😳

Cherrysoup · 02/02/2022 18:38

You know she’s lying. You have a photo of her bloody carpet!

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 02/02/2022 18:39

She's batshit crazy! And a CF of the highest order!

So how would that explain the photo of the delivery then?

Wow Shock It's 100% her that took it.

I'd text and say 'Just asking round the neighbours about this man; it's pretty worrying for neighbourhood security, isn't it?'
