Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

OP posts:
PenStation · 01/02/2022 19:47

You can’t let them get away with this. What if it was someone who really couldn’t afford to lose the item? Like a teen who had used their entire savings to buy a computer? Have you contacted the police?

PenStation · 01/02/2022 19:50

They probably won’t do anything as you have your item back but it shows the kind of people they are, and it puts the incident on record.

NotTerfNorCis · 01/02/2022 20:14

So glad you got the parcel back!

I wonder if she mixed it up with one of hers, started to open it, then felt embarrassed and decided to pretend not to have it?

CestTout · 01/02/2022 20:41

I would be so tempted to tell her that you have let the police know that it has turned up but they may still call her!

Jedsnewstar · 01/02/2022 20:48

I'm VERY tempted, but I don't want to cause any more drama than necessary. I know it was her, she knows I know it was her. Maybe I'm a pushover but I just don't want the stress!

I would need to know. Just of .00001% chance it wasn’t her. If you had proof of her returning the item then I would be sending her a few screenshots with “no I don’t think we will be talking again”

mumlikeaboss · 01/02/2022 21:40

@Pootlepoodle

That’s a moo point
Or a mute point 😆
ThumbWitchesAbroad · 01/02/2022 22:37

Oh good, glad you got the parcel back.

There is so much parcel fraud going on at the moment, especially with tech items, it's really quite disturbing! Several mentions of how some of them pull the trick on here, plus there are the returns where people receive the item then repack the box with something of equal weight to return it, it doesn't get opened other end to check, and then gets sent out again to a different unsuspecting customer!
There was a whole thread on that recently too - I think the recipient got sheets or something instead of a laptop or X box?

ChampagneLassie · 01/02/2022 23:13
@ChampagneLassie, that's so funny. I immediately had a vision of a Miss Hannigan type, answering the door, half cut - champagne bottle in hand, denying all knowledge.
This is what I imagine too. My friend doesn't know them / but said they were a bit rough and didn't want to aggravate them!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 01/02/2022 23:34

Just found this, coincidentally - someone out there trying to right the wrongs perpetrated by package thieves!

StoneofDestiny · 01/02/2022 23:45

You can still ask your neighbour across the road without even mentioning your next door neighbour. Just a 'my package went missing on....can you check your ring camera'

RustyBear · 02/02/2022 00:03
I love Mark Rober's stuff. Especially his ninja squirrel course.
Enough4me · 02/02/2022 00:07

Yes ask neighbour across the road. I'd just say it was a delivery issue and it would be handy to know when the company actually made the delivery because you received confusing messages. Then if neighbour says oh yes it was delivered at 2pm, the company van pulled up on road, you know this is some crazy mix up of old photos.

Or, your neighbour says, oh Marge* must have taken it in as she popped over to yours at 4pm you can look surprised, "Marge, but I asked her and she said she hadn't seen it", then let the news spread around the rest of your neighbours.
*Marge= CF neighbour.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 02/02/2022 01:04

@Rustybear - yes, I'd been watching the squirrel assault course before, that's how I found the glitter bomb stuff! Grin

HappyGoLuckyLuLu · 02/02/2022 04:24

I'd ask neighbour over the road to check ring doorbell & be honest about why - to check if it was CF neighbour. Other neighbour is at risk of same CF behaviour too, so this would be fair warning!

LovedayCL · 02/02/2022 06:22

Or a mute point 😆

Or a moot point 🤣

rightsideoftheroad · 02/02/2022 07:59

@mumlikeaboss it's moot.

Vanillacronut · 02/02/2022 08:05

@rightsideoftheroad Oh my goodness I knooooooww 🤦🏼‍♀️ was just laughing at a popular misquote
rambleonplease · 02/02/2022 08:13

Shame you do don't have a ring camera at your door. Would solve the mystery re appearance of the parcel. I have had a few debates with delivery companies as well as a window cleaner all of whom were adamant of their work. The camera doesn't lie!

Glad you got your package though.

whysonasty · 02/02/2022 08:16

Looks like you’re the escape goat now, @mumlikeaboss. Baaaad form. 🐐

HaveringWavering · 02/02/2022 08:38

@mumlikeaboss I guess you’ve never seen Friends then?

IntermittentParps · 02/02/2022 08:46

@Womencanlift

The thing is OP the next person the CF steals from might not be as lucky as you. I would want to let my neighbours know that we couldn’t trust her/her family
On a serious note, this is actually a good point. I might do as Enough4me suggests and let the news spread.
Grandadwasthatyou · 02/02/2022 09:25

That's why Ring doorbell is your friend!

mumlikeaboss · 02/02/2022 09:26

@HaveringWavering no I haven't! Sorry if I missed a specific quote then 😄

jytdtysrht · 02/02/2022 09:42

What an absolute fucker your neighbour is!

Talk about shitting where you eat.
