Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

I would talk to the retailer. Their contract is to deliver it to you and it hasn't been. They can take it up with their courier.

Lockheart · 31/01/2022 19:28

Go back around with the picture, of course.

Presumably she's the only one who lives there and no-one else could have accepted the delivery which she might not know about.

YellowLemonz · 31/01/2022 19:28

Go back round to her house and show her the photo

allthingsnaice · 31/01/2022 19:29

Firstly I'd pop back round with the photo - say "oh before you didn't have my parcel, I think you must be wrong it looks like your husband/wife/child/dog (insert as applicable) took it in, here's the photo".

If it's denied again get in touch with the delivery company and see what their policy is, and the shop too!

BletchleyGirls · 31/01/2022 19:30

Contact whoever you bought it from and let them sort it out

legalseagull · 31/01/2022 19:30

Go show her the photo and say "it looks like it was delivered here. Can you please just check" if she still denies knowledge tell her "weird, I'll have to call the police to report it missing"

Itsnotover · 31/01/2022 19:31

Shock yes definitely show her the picture.

thinking123 · 31/01/2022 19:31

It's possible someone else in the house took it in and whoever you spoke to didn't realise

JustCleaningtheBBQ · 31/01/2022 19:31

Can you text her and say you have photo evidence of the parcel at her house and that as it was such an expensive item, if she doesn't have it, you will need to report it to the police.

What is she like generally? Was the parcel left on her doorstep or handed to her? If on her doorstep, could it have been stolen? Do any neighbours have cameras they'd let you look at.

Imissmoominmama · 31/01/2022 19:33

Was it on her doorstep/in her porch, or did the photo actually show her? Could it be that someone stole it from her house?

Actually, why would they deliver it to next door’s empty house instead of yours… ignore my stupid question!

Itsnotover · 31/01/2022 19:33

Is it one of those pictures where the driver takes a photo of the item inside the person's door when it's been handed to them?

jytdtysrht · 31/01/2022 19:34

I'd go round, show the pic and say look the courier is saying it was delivered to you - if you are sure it wasn't then I will have to call the police as the courier must have stolen it.

Raindancer411 · 31/01/2022 19:35

If you have a photo, take it round and show it. If they deny knowledge of it then say you will be having to take it further.

jytdtysrht · 31/01/2022 19:35

Was it obvious it was £600? Most parcels I would think are under £20

Georgeskitchen · 31/01/2022 19:37

Definitely go round, show her the picture and inform her the police will be involved

Avocadoandlemons · 31/01/2022 19:39

Show her the photo Grin good luck!

anon12345678901 · 31/01/2022 19:40

If take the photo round and ask her to explain it, if it shows her in the photo. One things for sure, I'd definitely be saying do not deliver to neighbours in future.

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:42

Yes, exactly! I can see her carpet!

Agree with others, go back and show the photo.

maddening · 31/01/2022 19:43

Take the photo round. Is the front door open in the picture or is it outside a closed door?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:44

I've text her saying this

"Hi! Just to check that you definitely didn't receive that parcel earlier? Could DH (name) have taken it in? Sorry to ask again, but it was quite expensive 😂"

I attached the photo too.

MooSakah · 31/01/2022 19:44

Contact the retailer I get this all the time with a particular courier and no matter how many notes I leave I get a photo of it outside the wrong door and then have to contact them to explain I can't go round there as once they were drunk and aggressive. The retailers are really good about it and send out another one. I hope they can claim off the courier though.

MooSakah · 31/01/2022 19:45

Perfect
legalseagull · 31/01/2022 19:46

Hopefully an honest mistake given she's taken things for you before without it being a problem

TurquoiseDragon · 31/01/2022 19:46

And do call the police if she denies it. If the photo shows her carpet, I doubt sh'll hhave a good enough story to cover that.
