Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

Hopefully crossed wires and someone else in her house accepted it Hmm

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:47

@legalseagull

Hopefully an honest mistake given she's taken things for you before without it being a problem
That's what I'm hoping, too. Something just feels a bit off.

be interesting to see her reply - I would have gone around again and showed her the picture to see her response... but I guess maybe it's easier to text and it gives her the chance to find an appropriate back out that doesn't embarrass herself too much!!

Natty13 · 31/01/2022 19:47

@Eleanr

I've text her saying this

"Hi! Just to check that you definitely didn't receive that parcel earlier? Could DH (name) have taken it in? Sorry to ask again, but it was quite expensive 😂"

I attached the photo too.

What's your plan if she denies all knowledge?

I 100% would have gone round to show her in person and refused to leave without my item.

I should have gone round but I hate confrontation. 😟

Would it have been obvious from the box that it's a high value item?

Pegasushaswings · 31/01/2022 19:49

Go and say to her youve checked the delivery photo and its definitely her-can she check again? If she denies it say you'll have to report it as stolen and then actually inform the company and give them her details.

TruffleShuffles · 31/01/2022 19:50

You’ve got to be pretty thick to steal your next door neighbours parcel after watching the delivery driver take a picture of you in your house. Hopefully it’s just a misunderstanding but if not then the message and picture makes her come to her senses.

wantanewlife · 31/01/2022 19:51

Let us know what happens. If she doesn’t say anything then take it up with the delivery company. You could message and say “sorry to bother but the delivery company have just rung me back and insist they delivered to your house. Could you please check with your family members as the company have suggested I should ring the police and report the item as stolen.”

Pegasushaswings · 31/01/2022 19:51

Sorry im such a slow typer, just seen your update!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 31/01/2022 19:51

You can report online to your local force as this is classed as theft of mail before delivery. Just remember to attach the photo

You'll get a crime number to give to the retailer within 24 hours (usually)

Namensandurung · 31/01/2022 19:52

I think you've handled this really well. Hopefully crossed wires and it will all be sorted.

Star81 · 31/01/2022 19:53

If she’s not done anything like this before I’m sure it’s just that she didn’t take it in but someone else in the house did. Hope you get it soon x

Pootlepoodle · 31/01/2022 19:53

This does not make sense at all.

You have TV footage of her taking your package.

End of case

HunterHearstHelmsley · 31/01/2022 19:53

I've had Dyson hair stuff delivered and I don't think they could write DYSON anymore if they tried! Something like that would be fairly obvious what it is.
HollowTalk · 31/01/2022 19:54

Could you tell it was actually her standing there though?

Good idea, thanks!

Has she responded yet?

Wallabyone · 31/01/2022 19:58

This is so weird-why would she do this? She must have seen the delivery person take the photo too!

Minecraftlover · 31/01/2022 20:03

This happened to us, nowhere near as expensive though!! And no picture but they had signed for it, you could clearly see their name Grin DH had gone round and they'd denied it, but when we saw their signature in an email from courier DH messaged a screenshot of it to them. They rather sheepishly came round the next day with the item saying their kids had took it in and opened it Hmm

TheChosenTwo · 31/01/2022 20:06

Omg just bloody get round there, show her the photo and demand it back!!!

marqueses · 31/01/2022 20:06

Is the value of the parcel obvious without opening it? Seems odd that a previously good neighbour would go rogue when you have undeniable proof they have the package

BliainNua · 31/01/2022 20:07

I know different people deal with things differently, but I find it incredible that you didn't just knock and say Hi, I'm here for my parcel. Delivery driver sent me a photo of it being delivered to your house

LaChanticleer · 31/01/2022 20:07

Mention the police.

£600 is quite a high price to pay for avoiding confrontation 😕

Avocadoandlemons · 31/01/2022 20:07

What was the item anyway?! Intrigued!
