Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

Was it opened OP?

Brideandprejudice · 01/02/2022 15:31

Can't believe it, maybe her husband/partner realised what she was doing?

Hankunamatata · 01/02/2022 15:38

Id have to send a snarky text saying 'thank you for returning my parcel'

ChampagneLassie · 01/02/2022 15:44

A friend had a case of champagne delivered and her neighbour took in, answered the door drinking champagne and denied all knowledge! Brazen! My friend didn't get police as I don't think wanted to escalate issue and instead the company sent her a replacement

mirabellemadrigal · 01/02/2022 15:47

She lost her nerve! I wonder what she was thinking?

Is the item's value obvious from the packaging?

Cheeky woman!

Glad you have it but obviously you cant ever trust her or allow her to accept anything for you again

Cherrysoup · 01/02/2022 15:48

@Eleanr

I've just got home and the package was on my doorstep.

Raging!!! But happy to have it obviously.

Excellent! Talk of the police must have frightened her. Silly mare.
IntermittentParps · 01/02/2022 15:51

I wouldn't be able to resist texting her: 'Phew, it's turned up!'

Drinkingallthewine · 01/02/2022 15:58

I had my home heating oil delivered to next doors tank just before Christmas.

Bin company also delivered my new bins to there as well and argued with me that he was at the right house even though I came out of my own house next door "because that's where his Sat Nav told him my house was. Who knew I was living in the wrong fucking house all this time, eh?

Managed to catch our comms guy before he installed €1,500 quids worth of aerial equipment on next doors gable as well.

DPD dropped my Dunnes order on next door's step, despite having delivered umpteen things to my house before this.

And after 5 or more attempts at contacting Nespresso in every conceivable way to collect my recycling bag of coffee pods, they remain sadly loitering around outside. I've now given up entirely on that.

I've checked that my postcode is absolutely correct. I describe my house in the comments box, there's just no way to change it. This is my life now...

Eleanr · 01/02/2022 15:59

Yes it's been slightly opened but not taken out of the inner packaging.

I really want to know what's happened, if it was a genuine mistake then fair enough!

Did you compare it to past photos, like the cat food one? There is still the possibility it wasn’t delivered to her going by some of these posts about people getting notification of delivery with old photos and then the parcel being delivered a day later.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 01/02/2022 16:00

Curious...

It could be genuine that the driver used an old photo or she could have been chancing arm!

MaggieFS · 01/02/2022 16:04

Bloody hell @Drinkingallthewine - what happened about the heating oil?

Eleanr · 01/02/2022 16:06

Yes they're definitely different photos and it's obvious it's the same package even though it's a bit blurry.

Maybe she read this thread!

Eleanr, I love it Grin I do hope she replies.

Bloody hell *@Drinkingallthewine* - what happened about the heating oil?
They were very apologetic when I called, wondered if neighbour might buy the oil off them, but I strongly hinted to them that he was more likely to purchase a very robust lock for his tank and deny all knowledge of it's contents. It's an unoccupied rental property. They pumped it out of that tank into ours the following day and gave us a bottle of booze as an apology with the neighbour none the wiser!
Staffy1 · 01/02/2022 16:15

In that case, you should put a permanent note on your door asking that parcels are never left with no. CF and not take any in for them either.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 01/02/2022 16:30

Nooo! You should have texted her saying 'can I just check one last time that you definitely don't have the parcel, before I get in touch with the police?'
If it was her that had put it on your doorstep today, she'd be totally thrown by that and give herself away Grin

Lemonweightloss · 01/02/2022 16:30

@ChampagneLassie, that's so funny. I immediately had a vision of a Miss Hannigan type, answering the door, half cut - champagne bottle in hand, denying all knowledge.

Myhusbandisadick · 01/02/2022 16:32

I'm glad you've got it. The neighbour obviously had it! She was stuck as you had a photo but you'd already denied. Wonder if anyone saw her put it there Grin

HelloFrostyMorning · 01/02/2022 16:37

Goodness me! That's AMAZING! Shock Just appeared when you weren't there!

Anyway, glad you got it @Eleanr

Luckymummytoone · 01/02/2022 16:42

So funny! Obviously thought she’d try her luck before you mentioned police 😅

HippoJam · 01/02/2022 16:44

Hahah, oh this would have been brilliant!!
FilthyforFirth · 01/02/2022 16:46

Oh what a shame no one saw her returning it! She will continue to claim ignorance I bet, possibly even have thr audacity to say to you 'see I told you I didnt have it'!

GrandDuchessRomanov · 01/02/2022 16:47

@MadisonAvenue Misses the joke spectacularly.
