Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

I would be tempted to tell her you’re going to look at your cctv footage as it’s very strange it’s just turned up.

iklboo · 01/02/2022 16:50

We've had similar misdeliveries. Say we're 1 Any Street and perpendicular is 1 Fanny By Gaslight Road (nothing alike, different postcodes). Saw in the photo parcel had been delivered to wrong house & put in their wheelie bin. They were out so I had to knock on their neighbours with something with my address on to show them I wasn't nicking it.

Complained to company: 'Sorry, driver was busy'.

Yes. I appreciate that. But surely one of the fundamental parts of the job is making sure you deliver to the RIGHT HOUSE?! We've got the street name sign right outside ours, next to the gate.

HashtagSexy · 01/02/2022 16:51

How I wish you had a ring doorbell and footage of the cheeky cow dropping it off

LIZS · 01/02/2022 16:54

@Eleanr

I've just got home and the package was on my doorstep.

Raging!!! But happy to have it obviously.

As if by magic Hmm

Oh is it a little cliquey in-joke? Okay, crack on love 😏

GrandDuchessRomanov · 01/02/2022 17:01

@MadisonAvenue No "in joke" at all if you had tried reading all of the thread you would have understood the context as another PP had previously pointed out.

And I am not your love.

So pleased for you OP

Strict instructions for all deliveries you arrange in future :

Do NOT leave with neighbours.

Eleanr · 01/02/2022 17:07

Thanks guys, just relieved I've got it. She hasn't messaged me back and I don't think we'll ever speak again after this. Oh well!

affairsofdragons · 01/02/2022 17:12

I'd text her because I'm mean: "Guess what! It showed up on my doorstep today. I'm so relieved. Now I'm just curious, though. Will have to check my security camera tonight to see who actually had it. Will let you know!'

NarcissistsEyebrows · 01/02/2022 17:15

What an absolute arsehole. Can't quote believe someone who has always been decent in the last would be so brazenly dishonest. Is she related to PM Johnson by any chance?

Eleanr · 01/02/2022 17:17

I wish I was brazen enough to ask my other neighbour across the road. They have one but I don't want to create a huge neighbourhood dispute! 😭 it probably wouldn't capture that far away anyway.

How do people sleep at night if they have committed such crime, I have 🤷‍♂️

gettingolderandgrumpy · 01/02/2022 17:37

Just glad you got it back .

WheresYourSnickers · 01/02/2022 17:41

You have your package and that's all that matters now. No more taking in packages for each other for sure, but hopefully cordial relations can resume.

Sideswiped · 01/02/2022 17:46

At the very least, put a note on your door:
DO NOT LEAVE PARCELS AT NUMBER X.

IncompleteSenten · 01/02/2022 17:49

She must think you are as thick as pigshit

GrandDuchessRomanov · 01/02/2022 17:51

She was taking a huge risk as you could have had cctv up and caught her at it.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 01/02/2022 17:53

oh i'd go to the neighbour with the camera...blame it all on the delivery firm.

Say they swore up and down it had been delivered yesterday, then it arrived today and the delivery people have asked you what time and if there's any chance of a description of the driver.

At least you will know for sure if she is a ThievingMcThieverson.

Grumpsy · 01/02/2022 17:57

@Eleanr we have cctv on our house, and a ring door bell - they actually see quite far out. Personally I’d go and see the neighbour over the road and ask to see the footage. You’d be doing that neighbour a service - making sure they don’t allow parcels to be delivered to the CF next door

I'm VERY tempted, but I don't want to cause any more drama than necessary. I know it was her, she knows I know it was her. Maybe I'm a pushover but I just don't want the stress!

HelloFrostyMorning · 01/02/2022 18:05

@Eleanr I am with you. I would be soooo tempted to say 'I'm gonna check my cctv footage to see who put it there blah blah blah' but just like you, I wouldn't want the hassle, or bad feeling. Has she still not replied to your text saying the package turned up on your doorstep?

FloBot7 · 01/02/2022 18:06

Is it the type of street where everyone talks to each other?

Mine isn't so If someone across the road came over and asked for my ring camera footage I'd quietly have a look and share it if necessary.

pompomseverywhere · 01/02/2022 18:13

Maybe you could check the neighbours cctv without incriminating the cf. make out you have no idea who had it. OH PLEEEEEEEASE do it!

Womencanlift · 01/02/2022 19:22

The thing is OP the next person the CF steals from might not be as lucky as you. I would want to let my neighbours know that we couldn’t trust her/her family

custardbear · 01/02/2022 19:46

I guess everyone is different but if I was your. With our is be really working with you to try and sort this shit out if they tried to say it was me it was delivered to! I suspect she was trying to mould a fast one, but quickly realised it was a prick type move on their part
