Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

Yes send her the screenshot of the whole thing showing it was today and then say you'll have to contact the police then if courier used a fake photo Hmm

Blinky21 · 31/01/2022 20:18

Report her to the police, they may do nothing but you still should. The delivery company will do an investigation too in my experience

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 20:19

@Mooloolabababy

Did neighbour have to sign for it? Surely if the parcel was worth that much then it would have been signed for so the courier should have a copy of the signature of whoever signed for it.
No you don't have to sign, but you do have to provide a code (number.) There's been ONE occasion before where the driver didn't ask for the code, but it's unusual because they are meant to confirm it on their device.

No one round here does signatures anymore the photo is meant to be the proof
contactornotthatisthequestion · 31/01/2022 20:19

can you see any of the branding on the box in the picture, that would be easiest way to prove its not pet food

Isahlo · 31/01/2022 20:19

@Eleanr

She's just text me again saying that the picture I sent her was from three months ago when she took in my pet food delivery. It was not!
Yeah definitely go down the reports to police line now
TheFormidableMrsC · 31/01/2022 20:19

She's admitted it's her house the daft cow! Police definitely. What a cheeky fucker she is 🤬

RocketPanda · 31/01/2022 20:20

Neck like a jockeys bollocks, your neighbour. She absolutely has stolen it.

BungleandGeorge · 31/01/2022 20:20

Was it Hermes? Their delivery system has had loads of errors recently and I’ve had notifications that have been for a parcel already delivered, various last minute hold ups and notifications switched over so it relates to the wrong one.

Candean · 31/01/2022 20:20

How can she say it was pet food, if the box had vacuum type brand stickers all over? Does the picture not show the stickers so it's quite obvious what parcel it is?

CoffeeRunner · 31/01/2022 20:21

Far too defensive far too quickly.

You weren't accusing, you were asking if her DH might possibly have accepted it.

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 20:21

This is so ridiculous, I can't believe it's happening 😂 I just want my item!

Eviethyme · 31/01/2022 20:21

its literally an offence i would say Well i wouldnt accuse if i didnt have photo proof that you took a parcel in for me that day and any innocent person wouldnt feel defensive but that now you will have to call the police and then do it. shes stolen it and she knows it, probably just too embarressed that shes opened it and would have to be honest especially now shes denied all knowledge of it

Pumpkinpatch22 · 31/01/2022 20:22

I would call the non emergency police number and log it.

MrsTrumpton · 31/01/2022 20:22

Text her to say the delivery company are saying you have to report it as stolen so you are now contacting the police and will give them all the info the delivery driver has provided.

TidyDancer · 31/01/2022 20:23

Your neighbour is an idiot as well as a thief. That photo will be time stamped from the email and she's already admitted it was her house.

If I was feeling generous I would give her one more chance to own up so message again and say that the photo was definitely from this occasion so could she check with all members of the household as the delivery was definitely taken in by them.

I'd probably report to the police though (and hope they actually do something).

BliainNua · 31/01/2022 20:24

Jeez, she's unbelievable- denying it in the face of photographic evidence 😲

MooSakah · 31/01/2022 20:24

You gave her the perfect opportunity to "suddenly find it" too.

BonnesVacances · 31/01/2022 20:24

Reply saying that you have the different photo from the pet food delivery, but not to worry as you've got the police involved now and passed on both photos, and they can sort it out.

Mooloolabababy · 31/01/2022 20:25

Does the photo have the brand of the the item on the box?
I'd do as pp have said and tell her you're going to the police to report it as stolen and you'll be sending them all the info that the courier has sent you and see what her response is.

jackieh1987 · 31/01/2022 20:25

Message her with 'thanks for replying, the delivery company are checking the driver's GPS and contacting the police' then see what she does...

Smerk · 31/01/2022 20:25

Give her an out: "if the courier has faked the delivery, I'll have to go to the police, but before I do that can you just double check and make sure there's not been a mix up?"

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 20:26

Ok I've text her saying
"I've had to contact the police because the delivery company say it's been delivered. Maybe they left it outside or something, can you let me know if you find it anywhere?"

I know they didn't leave it outside so maybe this will prompt some kind of response.

HippoJam · 31/01/2022 20:26

Omg this is mad! What a cheeky mare!

Womencanlift · 31/01/2022 20:27

The defensiveness is a big clue that she is a CF. Stay calm and breezy in your response and say look no worries, I have just raised a claim with the company and they are sending the photo to the police as it’s now being investigated as theft due to the confirmation that it’s been delivered.

You are passing the responsibility of raising with the police back to the unknown company so she will less likely kick off at you

I wouldn’t be surprised if it magically appears at your door in the morning
