Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

Wow this is awful! As pps are saying talk about getting the police involved and the fact that the delivery driver will be able to confirm with them where he delivered it to!

OnaBegonia · 31/01/2022 20:42

You cannot use anything but a
'live' photo on delivery apps so the driver used a fake photo is nonsense!
I'd go round and show her todays email with photo and date, it seems odd she's going to ruin relations for the sake of nicking a parcel 🤷🏼‍♀️

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 31/01/2022 20:43

Well I was about to come on and say maybe her DP took it in and never mentioned it (DP stupidly done this before, I had to run back to the neighbour with parcel) but looks like neighbour is trying it.

Does she have teens that may have taken it in, then went out?

I see a lot of "does anyone recognise this place/has anyone taken in a parcel" posts on my local FB page, including pictures shitty delivery drivers have taken (leaning up against flat bins a mile down the road was a good one) you could act dumb and ask, might shame her in to handing it over.

CheesusWept · 31/01/2022 20:43

They’re meant to take a picture of the parcel at the door - that’s the whole point of the courier taking the pic to prove they delivered the parcel.

So surely the picture showed the parcel with the ‘Dyson’ type label all over the box?

CoffeeRunner · 31/01/2022 20:43

@marqueses

Did you read my comment? It's only possible if OP regularly has the same delivery driver who may have used an old photo. Nobody's suggesting anything as bizarre as faking a photo!

I am in no way obsessed with scams or anything else. If this were my neighbour though, I would have to rule out every scenario. And the point of the photo is that it has the package & location shown.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 31/01/2022 20:44

Problem is the police won't do anything other than ask her about it (maybe).
They won't check and she probably knows this

ElephantOfRisk · 31/01/2022 20:45

I can't believe that anyone would have the brass neck to do this when they know that the courier will have taken a photo and that you'll know it's been delivered there.

I mean even if you were dodgy as fuck, you'd also have to be really stupid?

QuitMoaning · 31/01/2022 20:45

@ihateliningup

I can't believe post gets left with neighbours in the uk. Surely this is the reason why not to? It's a recipe for disaster. Why don't they take it to the post office?
Taking to a post office would annoy me a lot as I cannot get there due to work. The problem is the neighbours. Mine are lovely and we take in parcels all the time and don’t steal so I much prefer this. Not everyone is the same.

Again. Not "fake" but old. Having never been a delivery driver I wasn't aware it wouldn't be possible to do this.
InFiveMins · 31/01/2022 20:46

She's unbelievably cheeky as well as being a thief. Hope she manages to "find" it.

Babyghirl · 31/01/2022 20:47

@Eleanr
Ask her can you borrow her hoover has yours has got lost unroot, no really cf she is enjoying your 600 pound item like does she really think she will get away with it. The delivery driver will prop loss his job to for not asking for a code for the item and I take in items all the time for my neighbours and the driver always asks for my name.

RedRobyn2021 · 31/01/2022 20:48

Wow do people really do this!! That's horrible. Sorry your neighbour is a bad egg OP

BrightYellowDaffodil · 31/01/2022 20:48

@Eleanr

She's just text me again saying that the picture I sent her was from three months ago when she took in my pet food delivery. It was not!
So she admits that’s her house in the photo, then? Hmm

I’d just text back to say “OK, I’ll pass that information to the police when I report it stolen to them and the vendor”.

Because going to the post office can be a royal pain in the backside depending on how far away you live from it and what your working hours are. And some people can trust their neighbours.

(That said, I've good reason to believe my own aunt stole a package of ours once when we lived in the same street.)

TheOnlyMrsMac · 31/01/2022 20:50

I would contact the seller and the delivery company without delay.

DartmoorDoughnut · 31/01/2022 20:50

Omg that’s blatant theft. Hope mentioning the cops gets some results

Dguu6u · 31/01/2022 20:51

The shop you bought it from is responsible for delivery to your door, unless you instructed them to leave the parcel at a neighbour if you were out. If you didn’t instruct them to do this, they should investigate what happened or else you should get a new item delivered or your money back

Teaforme123 · 31/01/2022 20:51

What an absolute pleasure she sounds! You weren't accusing her, you had photographic evidence! Although if a code was supposed to be exchanged then doesn't the fault lie with the courier?!

CanofCant · 31/01/2022 20:51

I'd be so amped up I'd probably lose my rag and make a scene outside her front door so it's a good job you are more composed than me.

What an absolute nuisance though, I really feel for you. Fingers crossed it is being solved as I type.

What the fuck Shock surely nobody is that stupid?!

lborgia · 31/01/2022 20:53

What on earth made her think she could get away with this though? Mad!

Like a toddler with a mouth full trying to deny it ate the biscuits!

tingzhenqi · 31/01/2022 20:53

Is the item in this photo? A couple years ago, a DPD driver asked me if I can take a parcel for no.22 (I'm in 20), of course I did. He took my name as well as a photo of my front door. Later on, no. 57 (which is really far away from mine) came and asked for her parcel. I did NOT have her parcel! She accused me of stealing, and I never got to find out what happened. Think maybe driver got the 2 parcels mixed up. But the one I got (and returned to the right neighbor) was definitely no.22's.

Chocomelon · 31/01/2022 20:53

This is strange OP bit your neighbour's reaction makes me think it's not an honest mistake and she realises now (with the photo) she's been caught out but how does she backtrack now!

Chocomelon · 31/01/2022 20:53
