Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

I would suggest after this you make a note for no further deliveries to be left with no so and so.

You can message her back and say no worries, the delivery company will have a date stamp on the photo so they will verify it 😂

YellowLemonz · 31/01/2022 20:27

Very strange as I've just been into courier and their gps states x time at x house with attached photo.
They've advised to log with the police as it's now technically theft.

appleturnovers · 31/01/2022 20:28

@Eleanr

She's replied saying that I "should not accuse people of things without evidence." And that she's asked DH and he doesn't have it Hmm she then said that the picture could be from anywhere and she doesn't believe that's the picture I was sent.

WHAT???

That response is suspicious AF. Your text didn't accuse her of anything at all, so the fact she jumped to being defensive is very telling.
germsandcoffee · 31/01/2022 20:28

Definitely phone the police incase she has form for taking things in for others too

Theunamedcat · 31/01/2022 20:28

Fingers crossed she "finds" it instruct the delivery company to never deliver to neighbours for next time

AutumnLeaves21 · 31/01/2022 20:29

Cheeky cow! I bet she’s panicking now.

RocketPanda · 31/01/2022 20:30

Peek in her windows and see if there's vacuum lines on her carpets Wink

HashtagSexy · 31/01/2022 20:30

I would message her again to say that the police have said that they'll come and ask her for confirmation that the package wasn't received into her household, because the delivery company say it was and that they have proof

sazzy5 · 31/01/2022 20:31

Oh wow, I would hate this confrontation too. Unless the delivery driver used an old photo? But that sounds unlikely.

Hawkins001 · 31/01/2022 20:31

All the best op

Darbs76 · 31/01/2022 20:31

I hope that the company takes it further and she doesn’t just get away with keeping it, can’t believe the cheek of some people

CoffeeRunner · 31/01/2022 20:32

What does the photo show? Is it literally just feet in a doorway? Or is the item in the photo?

If the item is there it should be very clear it's not pet food.

If no item, there is a chance it could possiblely be a scam by the delivery driver. They are supposed to photo the item, why haven't they?

funinthesun19 · 31/01/2022 20:33

She’s stolen it for sure! Blindingly obvious.
I’m so glad couriers take these photos now - for this reason!

CoffeeRunner · 31/01/2022 20:33

Possibly.

She's worse than a CF. She's a piece of shit. How can people behave this way?

Oblomov22 · 31/01/2022 20:35

Blimey, she's got a nerve hasn't she?

That doesn't really help though. It could be the photo from 3 mths ago reused as part of a scam. Probably not, but OP does need to consider every option.

But if the item was in the photo then how the neighbour is denying it is beyond me

OMG, why is MN obsessed by thinking everything is a scam. Did the delivery driver know the neighbours carpet and fake a photo with it in?

That would be the most bizzare thing

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 31/01/2022 20:38

Who was the delivering company op? If they were delivering another item to the neighbour at same time they would use the same pic. Could have pod off by mistake. Have you asked the seller to investigate?

TomorrowIsNow · 31/01/2022 20:40

Can you hear the noise of hoovering next door?!

The audacity!!!

AutomaticMoon · 31/01/2022 20:41

@Eleanr There is data encoded into photos with the actual time and sometimes a location too, IIRC

ihateliningup · 31/01/2022 20:42

I can't believe post gets left with neighbours in the uk. Surely this is the reason why not to? It's a recipe for disaster. Why don't they take it to the post office?
