Odd text message from partner

Hi all,

I've been on here for ages - name changed for this as I want it separate to my usual account.

My DP has gone away overnight for a course, he says he told me about it ages ago but I have no memory of this. We were chatting on WhatsApp and while he drives he uses a voice to text feature. We had a normal conversation up until I got a message that said the following;

'I'm waving at Stonehenge for you, it's very misty'

I asked what he meant, he said he meant he was waving at Stonehenge for me as it's cool and it's what people do. I said I'd never heard of this before, and asked if he meant to message someone else saying 'I'm waiting for you at Stonehenge...'

He's insisting that he meant he was waving 'for me' at Stonehenge, which sounds really weird to me. Is this a thing that I've just not heard of?

I'm a bit worried that he was trying to message someone else and sent it to me instead, and his voice to text changed 'waiting' to 'waving'.

Am I being paranoid? He's just changed the subject entirely after doubling down that he meant he was just driving past Stonehenge and that was quite cool. He's a great bloke and I have never had any reason to doubt him until this very moment. I just have a horrible feeling he's fibbing...

Can anyone reassure me that I'm just being a silly old bint??

You are overthinking it. It is the sort of thing I would say.

It sounds a perfectly friendly comment to me, not odd. It doesn’t need to be an expression as such .
Unless there’s more to your concern I wouldn’t be worried just by this.

Waving at Stonehenge sounds really weird to me but @LIZS thinks it's normal so i don't know I totally get why you'd be suspicious though

I mean, I wave at stuff for DH all the time, and for DS. DS does it for me. It's just silly and childish.

I can sort of imagine myself saying this. Perhaps he changed the subject as he was embarrassed when he realised you thought it was odd?

But whilst I am usually hugely cynical, I also don’t believe all men are bastards as a lot here do.

I say this to my partner! When he's travelling and goes past landmarks he does the same.

Also I don't think he'd be waiting at Stonehenge for anyone - you can't actually go into it and right up to Stonehenge, there's a visitors centre to go through and tickets etc.

I wouldn't be suspicious at all! It seems normal to me. Stonehenge is one of the most famous landmarks in the world and he's probably just quite excited and wanted to tell you he's going past. I can imagine saying that my DH if I went past it. If he'd arranged an illicit meeting with a women I really don't imagine it would be at Stone Henge!! More likely a hotel or a bar. And if a woman was about to arrive he wouldn't be telling her it's misty as she'd presumably be in the area and seeing that for herself. It's the sort of thing he'd tell you as an observational comment.

The first red flag.

If my DH sent me this I would reply 'oh haha I bet you look like a right twat' and move on with the conversation. The fact that you find it suspicious is telling. There must be something else that makes you doubt him though?

If he was waiting at Stonehenge, surely he’d just say, I’m here, or describe where exactly he is, so he could be found.

It's really hard to do that the road is busy and slow with people crawling down to try and have a look. Odd he can text though

I would wave at Stonehenge and text my partner about it and he would do the same. It wouldn't change I'm waiting at Stonehenge to I'm waving at Stonehenge and have you ever been to Stonehenge? You can't wait there. Unless you are thinking of the massive coach park...?

Yeah, I'd wave at Stonehenge. And then tell DH. As @ThoseFestiveLights said, IT'S STONEHENGE!!!

I'd tend to massively overthink this and react in the same way ending in an argument and upset. Speak to him face to face and let him know you're feeling a bit concerned somehow. I'd maybe focus on your gut instincts though, which are rarely wrong.

I think it's the way it was worded - wouldn't you say something like 'I'm at Stonehenge and just waved!' It just really feels like it's structured in such a way that he meant 'I'm waiting at Stonehenge for you'...

He's just messaged again saying that a car just stopped dead in front of him on the dual carriageway... deflection?

I'm absolutely prepared to be called paranoid - but my gut is definitely dropping as I think about it. But what can I do?

Well, mine says hellow to all sorts of places for me. He travels all over the place and can't always stop for pictures. So he says hello for me instead!

It's daft. Just means he was thinking of you at the time.
