To think that men shouldn't be named as women in newspapers if they have committed sexual offences?

WandaWomblesaurus73 · 02/01/2022 14:59

Just that really - I'm seeing more and more newspaper reports where women are being implicated in weird sexual crimes and the you see the picture and it's obviously a man.

Now I totally get that if someone is transitioning it's polite to call them by their preferred name etc - but AIBU to think that some of these criminals are just taking the piss?

Here are some recent examples - and there are loads more.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10339797/amp/Thumb-sucking-paedophile-claims-identify-five-year-old-girl-comes-court-dressed-ELF.html

How can anyone think this is ok? And will these "women" end up in women's prisons out of politeness?

Definitely not being unreasonable and I find it atrocious.

As mentioned upthread the newspapers follow a code of conduct from IPSO who seem to apply stonewall law. Some, especially the daily mail clearly think the guidance is bollocks and make their point with photos.

AlfonsoTheGoat · 02/01/2022 17:21

YANBU.

Soubriquet · 02/01/2022 17:21

It’s awful too that they will send them to women’s prisons

So someone who has raped a woman, will get to go to a prison…that has more women in it

Giggorata · 02/01/2022 17:24

YANBU. Too right they shouldn't.
They are not women.

The way that so many perverted men have come out of the woodwork to usurp women's rights and safe spaces actually makes me less tolerant of those who genuinely believe themselves to be female.
And I used to be such a liberal…

@hedgehogger1

Is there any petition that's been started on this anywhere? Not sure how people can make their feelings clear
Theres a couple of relevant petitions I can think of.

This one is to have male crimes recorded as such:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/petitions_noticeboard/4299869-Please-sign-this-petition-to-have-crimes-by-men-recorded-as-mens-crimes

And this one is asking IPSO to report violent and/or sex crimes committed by men accurately

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4241933-Petition-Tell-IPSO-we-need-truthful-crime-reporting-where-sex-is-concerned

Eleganz · 02/01/2022 17:27

@MarshmallowFondant

Disagree.

Naming these people as women, and referring to them as "she" or "her", along with a picture of the perpetrator, will drive it home to people how the whole idea of self-identification is fundamentally flawed and puts women at serious risk.

I agree, we need these stories to exist to show that the legitimate concerns about men using self-ID to enable them to either perpetuate sex crimes or get more lenient treatment (as in the case of the OPs examples where suspended sentences for prior sexual offenses were highlighted in one case and special treatment during the trial on the other) are actually real, despite what the proponents of self-ID wish to think.

@ClaudiaJ1

When a 5 year old boy who was molested by a man is now gaslit and forced to commit Perjury in a court of law by being told they have to refer to the male pedophile as a female (as has actually happened in an actual case last year), you know things have gotten very sick indeed.
Whattt!!!!!??? Which case was this!!!

YADNBU, but watch - next thing you know, news outlets will be banned from using pics of the male perpetrators that haven't been filtered sufficiently to make them look more like females Hmm

Can someone help me understand something. I get gender is meant to be a social construct, and yes I've generally in my life used gender and sex interchangeably in my life, but what I dont understand is it seems we went from that and I'm ( as must seem obvious from this post) up to date with all the terminology but I feel like the term was transgender. So now why has it gone further from gender now to sex?

If gender is a social construct I don't see the difference between man and woman but if SOME people will use it to skirt certain rules then there has to be more distinction between gender and sex?

I dunno maybe I'm going on a ramble because I'm confused

YANBU.

Yanbu but be prepared to be called unkind

Anyone telling people to be kind to perpetrators of sexual crimes needs their head (and probably their hard drive) examining.

Lovelyricepudding · 02/01/2022 17:33

YADNBU but it should make no difference if they have committed a crime, men should not be referred to as women in the media or referenced as she/her at all.

Fidgetty · 02/01/2022 17:33

Men shouldn't be named as women full stop, sex crimes or no sex crimes. Collective insanity has taken hold. YANBU

Biological Sex - men and women

Gender - anything people want to make up - so anyone can say they are any gender including any number of made up ones.

What's happening now is that laws are being passed based on gender preference rather than biological sex.

People are also mixing the two up. So if I ask for a female doctor for a smear test - I might get a man who thinks he's a woman.

Biological sex is being trumped by mens feelings.

How can someone 'identify' as a 5 yaage old?

I get the gender side.

But age? Surely this person can't identity as 5 forever? What happens if they want to buy alcohol? Did they expect to be treated in the juvenile courts?

Baffling

I suppose the issue came when we were all instructed to shout "Transwomen are women"

Most of us were thinking it was a sign of recognition and solidarity and acceptance. We didn't think it meant literally that Transwomen were now supposed to be seen as BIOLOGICALLY women.

Because that is what we are supposed to believe now. Or else we are punished. Especially by a judge.

When I was on OkCupid before I met my dh - I was approached by two men who identified as children - one sent me photos of himself dressed as a five year old and the other one sent a photo of himself dressed as a baby. My profile was a really normal looking profile, I had mentioned nothing about being into any kind of kink or fetish and their regular profiles were of themselves dressed normally.

This was about 7 years ago. I remember at the time thinking they were weird and I just laughed and put it down to "men and their weird fetishes" and didn't respond.

One of them got very aggressive so I blocked and reported him.

Now - these men can do what they want - in the public eye - as long as they also say they are women and we need to shut up or be threatened.

This shows that it's been a polite fiction that women have been willing to go along with in a desire to be kind and inclusive, but that there are limits to how far most people are willing to see this pushed and rather than seeing it leading somewhere positive and inclusive the situation is now beginning to be visibly detrimental to women.

Male people may be transwomen and that is an identity I am perfectly happy to respect, but transwomen are transwomen: a very small population of male people who identify as transwomen. They are not women, and it is not possible to call them this without unacceptable consequences for the 51% of the population who are female people.

codexa · 02/01/2022 17:58

I wonder if there were any female sex judges/CPS/ and police involved in any of these bizarre and sickening cases? You know women born as women who might, just might see how damaging this is to the female sex.

If there are/were I am truly baffled, not so much surprised if they were all male sex though sadly.

It has gone too far now IMO. Way too far.

Idontgiveaf324 · 02/01/2022 18:00

Lesbians that I know who are on dating sites repeatedly get sent messages from people who are blatantly men. It’s really grim and reminiscent of men who tell lesbians that they just haven’t met the right man yet. Except now supposedly progressive people also tell them they are bigots if they won’t sleep with men. Jfc.

HeronLanyon · 02/01/2022 18:05

Lesbians are being told they are transphobic if they do not want to have sex with men now. If the full giro of that is hard to grasp Anyone reading who is a straight woman imagine being told you are transphobic by refusing to have it saying you do not want to have sex with a trans man. Oh but of course that is so much more rare for obvious sexual political reasons. Absolute travesty. Some trans women are also appalled by this.
