To think that men shouldn't be named as women in newspapers if they have committed sexual offences?

Just that really - I'm seeing more and more newspaper reports where women are being implicated in weird sexual crimes and the you see the picture and it's obviously a man.

Now I totally get that if someone is transitioning it's polite to call them by their preferred name etc - but AIBU to think that some of these criminals are just taking the piss?

Here are some recent examples - and there are loads more.

How can anyone think this is ok? And will these "women" end up in women's prisons out of politeness?

It's always been too far, it was a shit show waiting to happen the minute the GRA was passed in 2004, several MP's and Lords highlighted exactly where this would lead and, of course, that was hand waved away with that will never happen now it fucking has and those that support this insidious agenda still make excuses and are dismissive of the impact it is having.

For anyone who isn't familiar with the high quality of the House of Lords' debates and the prescience of those who anticipated this would happen, there's a Twitter thread of quotations from Hansard:

That thread is available on various sites including web archive.

YANBU. It can only be a matter of time before yet another patronising article appears in a British newspaper lamenting in painful detail how much the rate of offences committed by women is increasing year on year, and wringing their hands as to what they can do to stop this dreadful trend amongst women.

@DomesticatedZombie

Well, to be honest even when someone has committed a crime and harmed others, we don't abandon them to the wolves because we are supposed to be a civilised society which means we lead by example, we don't seek retribution/revenge and we attempt to rehabilitate.

I thought, anyway.

I believe those are old-fashioned liberal values that we have 'matured' past. These days, it is progressive to declare people to either be fair game (t**fs, prisoners, people-who-voted-differently-to-you-at-the-last-election, some form of -ist and so on) for violence, or to be the people who get to say whatever they like without repercussion.

The culture of impunity still seems to have some exclusions, of course. I'm merely basing this on the special rules for one part of MN, the life bans from Twitter that seem to affect some groups more than others…

PurgatoryOfPotholes - thank you for this information!

"This is a quote from Jackie Doyle-Price MP's speech during the International Women's Day Debate in Parliament, as recorded by Hansard"

I missed this at the time!

Women experiencing mental health crises are placed in prison, without them having committed any offence, to keep them safe. Is it still acceptable to you that they face any risk of rape in there?

I have attached screenshots from the 2021 unannounced inspection of Low Newton Women's Prison in Co Durham.

I agree that no woman should be at risk of rape in prison, whether from guards or other prisoners.

However, it is an added outrage that:

  • women are being imprisoned in the UK when they have committed no crime at all and should be in a mental health facility for their own safety
  • they are gaslit that all the other prisoners are female
  • they are at risk of being raped!

Rape by male guards and male prisoners is a big problem in the USA and Canada and we really want to avoid sinking to those depths in the UK.

Just this week:

unherd.com/2021/07/how-the-trans-activists-fooled-ireland/

A very informative piece written by a transgender person highlighting the terrible consequences of the Gender Recognition Act in Ireland. An act that seemed to get passed in Ireland very quietly under the radar.

This is what Nicola Sturgeon wants for Scotland and what the Labour Party are pledging to bring in.

The author is Debbie Hayton and it's about the Denton Playbook as a pattern for Ireland.
