To think that men shouldn't be named as women in newspapers if they have committed sexual offences?

Just that really - I'm seeing more and more newspaper reports where women are being implicated in weird sexual crimes and the you see the picture and it's obviously a man.

Now I totally get that if someone is transitioning it's polite to call them by their preferred name etc - but AIBU to think that some of these criminals are just taking the piss?

I know right? But there's a limit to women being expected to be kind to sexual predators and rapists. At what point do we get to say no? Do women in prison get a choice about who they share a cell with and God help any of the women sharing cells with these people! How is it not state sanctioned rape?

It has happened women have been raped and they have been told it didn't happen

These crimes were not committed by women, they were committed by men claiming to be women. If nothing else, it skews the crime statistics and makes it look like women commit crimes like rape.

YANBU. I am beyond furious about this. At the criminal bar and god knows what I’ll do if instructed in such a case. Well I do - I’d have to leave the bar as we can’t refuse cases other than v small set of circs (rightly).

I wonder it is becoming more common to refer to women as cys woman or woman with a vagina but we cannot say refer to trans people as trans people. Doesn’t seem fair…

Naming these people as women, and referring to them as "she" or "her", along with a picture of the perpetrator, will drive it home to people how the whole idea of self-identification is fundamentally flawed and puts women at serious risk.
