Q. If someone asked you to pick up Robinsons Apple and Pear squash (fig A) in the shop and the shop didn't have any, which of the second two options photographed would you consider to be the most appropriate and closest alternative?

YABU = Robinsons Apple & Blackcurrant is the closest to the original item requested.

YANBU = Morrisons Apple & Pear is the closest to the item requested.

I would say the own brand of the same flavour is the closest alternative but as someone fussy with squash I would rather you got me a different flavour of robinsons so can see both ways haha

But….

If I had no prior knowledge of the colour of said Apple and Pear cordial, I most likely would have overlooked the Morrison’s one in favour of the Apple and Blackcurrant.

I would have likely not even spared it a glance, and if I did somehow run my eyes over it - perhaps whilst reaching for the familiar hue of the Apple and Blackcurrant - I would most likely have assumed it to be some sort of lemon barley water…

It was specifically the apple and pear flavour that was desired. I thought this had been made apparent to the askee but evidently not.

He told me that out of ALL the squashes in the supermarket the Apple and Blackcurrant was the closest in flavour to the Apple and Pear requested.

I was in the same supermarket yesterday and saw the own brand SAME BLOODY EXACT FLAVOUR and since than have been trying to figure out his logic. Without success 🤔.

I'm not a brand snob btw so it being Mozzas own brand is no barrier..

I was once tasked with purchasing some Cadbury Milk Chocolate.. they wasn't any on the shelf so I purchased Tesco milk chocolate..

I was all kinds of name after that. And it was remember for the remainder of the relationship, everytime I bought a Tesco product I was apparently paid by Tesco..

I'd get the one that is closest to the flavour. The brand is secondary in this instance. I believe.

Apple and blackcurrant as you specified it should be Robinsons.

He should have bought both. And prosecco, and chocolate and crisps.

Morrisons. I'd have taken Apple and Pear flavour as the brief and Robinsons as the preferred brand. Apple and Blackcurrant would be a completely 50% different thing so Own Brand same flavour is closest to the request!
