LIGHTHEARTED before anyone tells me I must have no real problems!

Q. If someone asked you to pick up Robinsons Apple and Pear squash (fig A) in the shop and the shop didn't have any, which of the second two options photographed would you consider to be the most appropriate and closest alternative?

YABU = Robinsons Apple & Blackcurrant is the closest to the original item requested.

YANBU = Morrisons Apple & Pear is the closest to the item requested.

Thanks 😬

Why the fuck is barley in squash? As a coeliac I never, ever would’ve expected that. Thank you for the warning OP, I know now to be careful next time I’m in the UK (obviously if I saw the bottle it’s super obvious but I can see myself accepting a glass of squash without ever considering it an issue).

I think flavour first, brand second UNLESS you are known for being fussy about brands.

I do really want apple and black currant now though.

ABitOfAShitShow · 01/01/2022 01:28

I think @CCC1 has already summed it up well and the input here has been stellar.

I just wanted to say that growing up in Newcastle we called it ‘dilutey juice’. With a Y, yes. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I have no idea whether this madness continues. 😂

NinaDefoe · 01/01/2022 01:35

If my DH is anything to go by you have to be VERY SPECIFIC.

‘Please would you get a bottle of Apple and Pear cordial/squash? If they have Robinson’s, get that. Otherwise get any brand they have’

If I said ‘bottle of Robinsons Apple and Pear’ and they didn’t have it I know for a fact he would pick up the first bottle he saw with ‘Robinson’s’ on it.

newreality1 · 01/01/2022 01:40

Morrisons Apple and Pear dilute juice

diddl · 01/01/2022 08:36

"You should try Robinsons Lime and Mint squash,"

Ooh that sounds nice.

That's definitely what I would have got insteadGrin

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/01/2022 08:42

@Tesoroxx

I would say the own brand of the same flavour is the closest alternative but as someone fussy with squash I would rather you got me a different flavour of robinsons so can see both ways haha
I agree

Morrison’s A&P seems obvious, but I don’t usually like cheaper squashes.

It makes a lovely mojito with rum and sparkling water too!!
NotDonna · 01/01/2022 10:01

@NearlyAHoarder

He should have bought both. And prosecco, and chocolate and crisps.
Love this!
BunsOfAnarchy · 01/01/2022 10:02

I would LTB if anyone dared give me apple and blackcurrent instead of apple and pear.
Apple and pear is god tier. Brand not an issue. Its just the best.
Apple and blackcurrant however is the most disgusting thing I've ever tried.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 01/01/2022 10:06

DH says he would buy the cheapest one so the Morrisons.

Don't know why I'm surprised he gave that answer 😂

Fizzbo · 01/01/2022 10:07

I voted YANBU but I do actually think you’re being unreasonable as Apple & Pear squash tastes vile. 🤢

RoomOfRequirement · 01/01/2022 10:13

YABU because Apple and blackcurrant is the superior flavor regardless of brand Grin

But obviously he should have gotten the Morrisons!

SBAM · 01/01/2022 10:27

Or a mock tail - lime and mint cordial, add some apple and elderflower juice (from the chilled fresh juices aisle) and top up with lemonade

Rainartist · 01/01/2022 10:40

You might not be a brand snob, but is DH? Wink

Salamander91 · 01/01/2022 10:59

Morrisons is obviously closest to what you wanted. If he's anything like my husband though he wont have looked very hard for it

PivotPivotPivottt · 01/01/2022 11:07

Its diluting juice. I hate the word squash. Almost as much as I hate the word pop or worse fizzy pop.

It were Cordial when I were a wee un
mumda · 01/01/2022 11:55

If you're known to be "fussy" there'd be a phone call made whilst in the shop.

But if you were that "fussy" I'd probably not be doing your shopping for you.

comfortablyfrumpy · 01/01/2022 12:10

LTB, obvs.

I’ve never heard “diluting juice” used in England. I think of it as mainly a Scottish and NI term.
Lulu1919 · 01/01/2022 13:24

Morrison's version

shinynewapple21 · 01/01/2022 13:56

I would definitely have gone with the Morrison's of the same flavour. But,
your DP sounds like the people who pick for Sainsbury's. For example , if I have picked an extra special vegetarian lasagne, they substitute with an extra special meat lasagne rather than a cheaper range vegetarian one . Drives me nuts !

PivotPivotPivottt · 01/01/2022 14:01

I'm Scottish so that will be why. I didn't realise it was unusual to call it diluting juice. Tbf I've never heard anyone call it squash I've only ever read it on here or heard it on TV.

Bumpinthenight · 01/01/2022 14:06

My DH would have panicked and bought both to have all bases covered 🤣

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/01/2022 14:22

As a "proud Yorkshireman" DH would have gotten the cheapest of the correct flavour whatever brand was available.
