LIGHTHEARTED before anyone tells me I must have no real problems!

Q. If someone asked you to pick up Robinsons Apple and Pear squash (fig A) in the shop and the shop didn't have any, which of the second two options photographed would you consider to be the most appropriate and closest alternative?

YABU = Robinsons Apple & Blackcurrant is the closest to the original item requested.

YANBU = Morrisons Apple & Pear is the closest to the item requested.

Thanks 😬

I think you went wrong on the if you asked someone

Yes if you asked a fellow MN etc buy to ask a DH/DP was just asking for the end result (this is light hearted response btw)

I have trained my DS 14 up so he wouldn't make this man error Wink

godmum56 · 31/12/2021 20:57

@NearlyAHoarder

He should have bought both. And prosecco, and chocolate and crisps.

I’m blown away that there is a squash in such a vile flavour that people would choose. Apple and pear FFS?

Of course, the only flavour of squash that is edible is Grapefruit High Juice. Only available from M&S and Sainsbo

100problems · 31/12/2021 20:58

I would get both a d stagger to the till with the fence up my arse.

cherryonthecakes · 31/12/2021 20:59

Was it a man or teen doing the shopping ?

I reckon that they picked the Robinsons because it's stacked near the missing item and to check for supermarket brand, you'd have to walk a few steps more.

RandomMess · 31/12/2021 21:00

I would have bought both tbh 🤣

DC are fussy about squash.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 31/12/2021 21:06

Mine would have asked me. With WhatsApp pics to clarify the situation.

That is a well trained man Grin

Appleseesaw · 31/12/2021 21:07

I would have phoned to check. It’s too important a job to leave to guesswork.

expatmigrant · 31/12/2021 21:13

For me 'yuk' to all that is squash...one of the few 'British' things I've not grown to like

The rest of my mixed 'half British' lot only drink Robinsons [raised eyes]

DuckonaBike · 31/12/2021 21:13

YABU to drink anything whose label says “No added sugar” in big letters. This is the sort of thing we need to stamp out.

And yes to the PP who said he should have bought Prosecco, chocolate and crisps. In fact he should just have got them and not bothered with the revolting sugar free squash.

eagerlywaitingfor · 31/12/2021 21:14

The Morrisons one in the right flavour, obviously.

What would he do if you asked him to get a can of Heinz baked beans and they didn't have any? Grin

ElephantOfRisk · 31/12/2021 21:15

That's such an "unusual" choice of flavour then I'd have to say the own brand was the closest sub.

However I'd honestly have bought you Robinsons orange or orange and pineapple with a back up plan of summer fruits as the rest are not appealing and honestly, the apple and blackcurrant leaves you thirstier than you were before you drank it.

whynotwhatknot · 31/12/2021 21:17

i really want apple and pear squash now

Shouldofgotahamster85 · 31/12/2021 21:17

LTB is obviously the right answer here Grin

YANBU but I find Mens brains work in mysterious ways…

@LazyMareofEastown
If this was the work of your significant other then I'd say a very MN

DisforDarkChocolate · 31/12/2021 21:19

Ooh I like the sound of an Apple and Pear Barley drink.

Morrissons obviously but I'd be checking for no added sweeteners first.

AngelonTopoftheTree · 31/12/2021 21:19

I reckon that they picked the Robinsons because it's stacked near the missing item and to check for supermarket brand, you'd have to walk a few steps more.

Or look down to the cheaper brands that they keep out of eye level so some people men spend more.
Xtraincome · 31/12/2021 21:19

Obviously Morrisons is the only acceptable alternative as it's the same product, just not the same brand.

Did you ask DH "Did you mean to be so rude?" When he handed it to you?

Thedogscollar · 31/12/2021 21:20

Great minds and all thatGrin
LadyAddle · 31/12/2021 21:21

I often think that the "Brand or Flavour" dilemma drives some of my less acceptable substitutes, but I feel for the pickers - I would be paralysed by doubt & get the sack for being slow.

Nimo12 · 31/12/2021 21:21

The morrisons one for sure. It's nicer and my apple and pear squash of choice!

Badabingbadatinselbum · 31/12/2021 21:23

The Morrisons one, unless the OG requested contained sugar and the Morrisons one was sugar free. I'd rather someone took a guess at a different flavour than get something with sweeteners.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 31/12/2021 21:29

Whoever it was went to the same school as the picker who bought me Rock's orange squash instead of blackcurrant squash. I really don't like orange squash.

Asterales · 31/12/2021 21:31

This is the best thread I've been on all year and I'm 100% with @CCC1 who perfectly encapsulates my take on this.

LazyMareofEastown · 31/12/2021 21:32

Sadly it wasn't a teenager. It was DP.

Tbh I think 7 year old DS would've fared better with this challenge 😂.

No ltb on the cards. Soft drink choices aside, he's wonderful. I was just very confused by his logic.
