LIGHTHEARTED before anyone tells me I must have no real problems!

Q. If someone asked you to pick up Robinsons Apple and Pear squash (fig A) in the shop and the shop didn't have any, which of the second two options photographed would you consider to be the most appropriate and closest alternative?

YABU = Robinsons Apple & Blackcurrant is the closest to the original item requested.

YANBU = Morrisons Apple & Pear is the closest to the item requested.

Thanks 😬

It's called Diluting Juice to distinguish it from a can of juice or a bottle of ginger

*Scottish for anything fizzy.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 31/12/2021 22:35

OP, you sound like really hard work.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 31/12/2021 22:40

I would have grabbed both as i know some people who are juice snobs and wouldn't have wanted "own brand" juice, actually I probably would have rung and said "they have Morrisons own brand here, any good?"

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 31/12/2021 22:44

I don't care what it tastes like as long as it'd Robinsons said no one ever

I do know drink snobs who wouldn't drink "budget" or "value" juice regardless if it tasted the same or better. They are also like it with ketchup. Strange.

diddl · 31/12/2021 22:48

Unless I knew that you liked the Morrisons one I would probably have gone for another Robinsons barley flavour.

Or WhatsAppedGrin

Do you not like the one that was bought?

givethatbabyaname · 31/12/2021 22:49

This is what cellphones were invented for.

Not TikTok, WhatsApp or MN

MabelFurball · 31/12/2021 22:53

I would like a glass of full sugar apple and pear squash please

RevolvingPivot · 31/12/2021 22:57

Not read the thread but as all the Robinson's are all put together they probably just chose the one next to it that was in stock?

RevolvingPivot · 31/12/2021 23:01

In our house we call it dilute. Strange I don't know why lol

QueenOfThorns · 31/12/2021 23:04

Ha! My DH says he would’ve bought the own brand one (I bet he would’ve messaged to check, though!). He also says he thinks your DH has done it on purpose so you don’t send him to the shops again Grin

Changemaname1 · 31/12/2021 23:09

@RevolvingPivot same :)

LazyMareofEastown · 31/12/2021 23:11

In my native part of NI we don't even call it diluting juice but just dilutin, as in high falutin!

Skinny I'm really not hard work!

Robinsons squashes are rubbish lately, supermarket own is where it’s at!

AllLopsided · 31/12/2021 23:19

Apple and pear, of course, provided the sweeteners or lack of contained therein are the same as your original choice. I would accept any 'wrong' flavour of squash before I accepted one that contained artificial sweeteners!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 31/12/2021 23:19

I love this thread!
I think I would have got you the Morrisons' Apple & Pear, but if you'd been specific about the Robinson's aspect, I might have got the A&B too if money was no object - or called you to check.

IamEarthymama · 31/12/2021 23:23

You should try Robinsons Lime and Mint squash, it’s been my drink of the pandemic alongside Tanquery Sevilla gin of course!

To answer your question, obviously Morrison’s Apple and Pear.
But thevLkmevand Mint will definitely turn your head.

greenlynx · 31/12/2021 23:27

I voted for Morrison’s one because I felt that you were after the flavour however reading this thread and thinking I’ve realised that in our family we usually prioritize the brand. So if strawberry yogurt of a particular brand was not available I wouldn’t buy a different brand I would buy the same brand just a different flavour.
It doesn’t apply to all products. I would buy any unsalted butter if my usual one was not available, I wouldn’t buy a salted one of my favourite brand.

I’ve just asked your question to my DH, his answer was: Robinson’s one because it’s the same brand so the closest option.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 31/12/2021 23:41

That’s exactly what my DH would do. Overlooking the obvious flavour the fact that both apple and pear ones are barley waters and the apple and black currant isn’t would surely sway it. I have a touch of cystitis right now, barley water would be the most important thing so I may be overthinking this!

5YearsLeft · 31/12/2021 23:46

Dear @LazyMareofEastown,

I was so sorry to hear about the recent breakdown of your marriage and unexplained disappearance of your inadequate squash-buying husband. However, the pictures of your new patio are absolutely beautiful!

Condolences and congratulations,
5

Tangled123 · 31/12/2021 23:52

My husband told me he would buy me both. Personally, I would pick another robinsons flavour but it really depends on the shop. The Tesco we usually go to have one section for robinsons, one section for Mi Wadi and then other sections for the brand stuff so the brand is easier. I might be tempted by the flavour if they were beside each other though.
I think YANBU though, sometimes you do just crave a certain flavour.

Jaxhog · 31/12/2021 23:55

Welcome to the world of substitutes. Sainsbury thinks a BLT sandwich is a good alternative to fish sushi.

DerAlteMann · 01/01/2022 01:02

Has to be Robinsons as we haven't got a Morrisons in 15 miles of us.

Theunamedcat · 01/01/2022 01:08

I've never seen this anywhere and I'm wondering if my son would find it a good alternative to the apple squash he drinks to excess

RamblingFar · 01/01/2022 01:15

The Morrisons one is closer. However, I prefer Robinsons squashes generally usually.

CovidPassQuestion · 01/01/2022 01:25

So, I would have bought Morrison's Apple and Pear, obviously.
Then I asked DH, and he said the Robinson's Shock

"Well, you asked for Robinson's, and they all taste the same" was the logic... Hmm
