AIBU to want to start my own 'working class Mumsnet'?

I see so many topics and conversations on here that just don't relate to my own life and experiences. Lots of well off women talking about their recent purchases from Boden or Uniqlo or some other place I can't afford to shop. Chat about dinner parties and holidays abroad. I'd like a site for mums and women on lower incomes as this site can leave a lot of us feeling left out of certain conversations.

Have you tried starting threads about your own life experiences?

Tibtab · 31/12/2021 18:48

I just ignore the ones where people talk about having 6 figure incomes or holidays in the Maldives. There are plenty of conversations I can relate to.

CheshireCats · 31/12/2021 18:48

Interesting name 🤔

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 31/12/2021 18:48

I'm not on a high income - I buy all my clothes second hand, haven't been abroad for decades and last hosted a 'dinner party' in 1998. I just ignore threads that I can't relate to!

crochetmonkey74 · 31/12/2021 18:50

Just start your own threads, theres loads on here of all different types

fallfallfall · 31/12/2021 18:51

please explain, some working class people earn 6-7 figure incomes...or do you think they don't work?

Smiths fan?
PartyPrawnRingGames · 31/12/2021 18:54

YANBU to start your own site after all MN was started by people who wanted a site to suit them. If you want something smaller and easy to moderate you could start a FB group.

clarepetal · 31/12/2021 18:56

Unite and take over....

HermioneWeasley · 31/12/2021 18:56

Pop off and start your own site then?

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 31/12/2021 18:57

Go for it. Let me know when it's done and I'll bring my ferrets. Will there be adverts?

MerryChristmasToYou · 31/12/2021 18:59

Most people claim they are working class when they are probably middle class.

Surely you’re describing mums net with the words reversed…?

LaCerbiatta · 31/12/2021 19:01

Uniqlo is very affordable!

RussianSpy101 · 31/12/2021 19:02

Isn’t that N..mums?

ssd · 31/12/2021 19:02

On mumsnet you're poor if your cleaner only comes once a week

I agree @shoplifteroftheworld

onlychildhamster · 31/12/2021 19:02

@shoplifteroftheworld I often feel the opposite, there are a lot of women on Mumsnet saying that paying XXX amount for a flat in London is insane and who can afford that. Well what am I supposed to do about it? I lived in London; if we all moved out of London wouldn't the prices up north increase more than the 8% it currently is increasing at?

But at the same time, I would never be able to afford a house in my part of London and I do want a child but I ignore the women who say that you need a garden for a child. I do find my tribe on the London threads full of women on good salaries and who live in flats with DC.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 31/12/2021 19:03

OP, what would you like to talk about instead?

Start some threads on topics which interest you.

I did this once and I got benefit shamed by SO many people even though I've worked full time since I was 17. I'm only on benefits because SMP doesn't pay enough to cover my rent let alone live off of🙃 no one seemed to care though. I agree with the OP
onlychildhamster · 31/12/2021 19:05

@ssd I shop at Boden but have no cleaner. My family is abroad in Asia so I fly to visit them- I don't think this means I am rich! So many people on low incomes do the same. My MIL earns below minimum wage but goes abroad more times that I can count every year. Her dad helps her with the flight cost as she looks after him when she is there.

WorraLiberty · 31/12/2021 19:10

Did you mean to put this thread in Site stuff OP?

YANBU to want to start your own forum, afterall Justine did.

KiloWhat · 31/12/2021 19:11

@galaxybaby I am so sorry to hear that

Xmasiscancelledagain · 31/12/2021 19:16

Nah, I love seeing how the other half live and the snobbery on this site is hilarious. People generally have to ask if it's socially to buy a plastic Christmas Tree FFS. How do they manage in the real world?! God forbid you shop in Iceland or have your TV on the wall, that's all I'll say.

Lemonopolis1 · 31/12/2021 19:24

I agree. I’ve often wanted to post looking for advice on different areas in my life but didn’t because I’m confident I’d be flamed for my financial situation. That’s almost always the case when I see situations I relate to. The genuinely good advice (which is there) just gets diluted by snobbery.
