AIBU to want to start my own 'working class Mumsnet'?

I see so many topics and conversations on here that just don't relate to my own life and experiences. Lots of well off women talking about their recent purchases from Boden or Uniqlo or some other place I can't afford to shop. Chat about dinner parties and holidays abroad. I'd like a site for mums and women on lower incomes as this site can leave a lot of us feeling left out of certain conversations.

OP posts:

A specific place on Mumsnet might be be a start. Call it Peasants’ Corner.

Try Netmums hun x Grin

PickAChew · 31/12/2021 19:31

Well, you don't have to join in with all the conversations.

LondonQueen · 31/12/2021 19:35

Interesting name...
Why don't you start your own threads OP? Therefore you can talk to other "working class" mums.

LondonQueen · 31/12/2021 19:36

Also didn't realise that working class women can't shop at Boden or host dinner parties? Do you have to specify your income to shop at Boden, I don't remember doing so...

Freagal · 31/12/2021 19:36

@Wishihadanalgorithm

OP, what would you like to talk about instead?

Start some threads on topics which interest you.

Yep, works for me. I jpin on the ones that interest me to. I rarely read ones like you describe
furbabymama87 · 31/12/2021 19:37

I hate the sneering at people on benefits. People on here don't understand that many working households are still entitled to benefits because they don't earn enough and the prospect of going to university and retraining in a profession or starting their own business where they will earn more is basically zero. And that some people work full time in jobs where they actually earn the same or less than people on benefits who don't work at all. So if you're a single mum why would you work full time for less money than claiming benefits and being home with your child? And it's not as simple as getting a better paid job because they are not accessible to everyone.

AbandonedCharacter · 31/12/2021 19:38

Surely you ignore or leave threads that don't interest you?

Alysskea · 31/12/2021 19:41

YANBU!!! Don't know why this has caused such a stir. You're right that so much of the site is aimed at well off middle class with absolutely no clue.

As making your own site sounds like a whole lot of effort we may need to settle for being more vocal on this version.

Alysskea · 31/12/2021 19:42

@ssd

On mumsnet you're poor if your cleaner only comes once a week

I agree @shoplifteroftheworld

This made me laugh out loud
AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 31/12/2021 19:43

Hiding style and beauty would seem a good way to solve the first haf of your problem

I agree @shoplifteroftheworld

But I only tip her £200 at Christmas is that enough?
Lolamento · 31/12/2021 19:50

You see all the reverse snobbery. You are not alone so just choose to ignore when you do not like it.

It's fairly pricy though for an average income .

( I'm probably one of these holidays abroad / MC types OP was on about but even I see it - a lot of people buy their clothes at the supermarkets ( I do too sometimes! ) ! )

lightand · 31/12/2021 19:53

Know what you mean.
Threads like "Do you think my £500,000 pension will be enough"!!

AbandonedCharacter · 31/12/2021 19:54

Style & Beauty are fantastic are finding things within a budget! They're so helpful even if you're looking for a bargain.

For once, I wanted to buy a decent mac that will last years. Started shop hunting for the higher end ones recommended. All above £200. Sorry, but that is so out of reach for millions of people. You do know that dont you?
QueenofLouisiana · 31/12/2021 19:58

Depends what you look at. I’m currently on a thread about our rescue animals- no social class mentioned, just animals from kittens to stray dogs to breed specific rescues. It’s a vast site, just select the bits you want to join in with.

We have kitchen suppers
notagainnotagain · 31/12/2021 20:03

Uniqlo is not expensive!

There are plenty of people on here that earn "normal" amounts

CrazyOldBagLady · 31/12/2021 20:03

There are loads of 'on a budget' groups on Facebook. I'm not sure a new dedicated forum would get many users these days. Netmums might have less of the 6 figure sum mums too.

Mumsnet is what it is but you aren't being unreasonable to feel a bit fed up with it at times.

Sorry but this is a bit ignorant , it's expensive for many people ! It might not be expensive to you
UninspiredUsername1 · 31/12/2021 20:09

But will there be an edit button?
