To be so embarrassed by my DP’s behaviour at the table

Christmas dinner at my mums this year. DP has been quite sulky not really joining in. Mum spent ages trying to make dinner perfect. He starts eating and says ‘sorry I’m going to have to spit this out it’s too fatty’, and almost spat it out at the table before I asked him to leave to do it. Then when everyone else was still eating, got up as soon as he was finished to go for a cigarette, leaving my family feeling really awkward. We’ve been together three years, it’s never happened before - AIBU to feel really embarrassed by this?

He sounds like a knob
Re-evaluate this relationship

Aprilx · 25/12/2021 20:00

No YANBU. He was very rude.

Saffy123456 · 25/12/2021 20:00

did he not want to be there?

LeedleLee · 25/12/2021 20:01

He was incredibly rude. Bizarre that he's never done anything like that before though. Sounds like he didn't really want to be there.

YouCantTourniquetTheTaint · 25/12/2021 20:01

I mean has something happened to put him in a shitty moon? An argument or something? Or is he just an ungrateful knobhead?

BronwenFrideswide · 25/12/2021 20:02

Dreadful behaviour.

Bin him.

Soembarrrrassed · 25/12/2021 20:02

No he was happy to come and we couldn’t go to his mums due to covid!

Rude tosser

Leeds2 · 25/12/2021 20:02

I’m not sure I could forgive that.

Does he want to be somewhere else?

BerryBe · 25/12/2021 20:03

Was he drunk?

Bluntness100 · 25/12/2021 20:03

Sounds like he’s just got poor manners, up to you if you can stand it. It wouldn’t be for me. Everyone has different standards.

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 25/12/2021 20:03

Checked out?

Starcaller · 25/12/2021 20:03

ShockShockShock What a horrid article.

Porcupineintherough · 25/12/2021 20:03

That is seriously rude behaviour. Wtf is going on w him? Is it completely out of character or is the mask starting to slip?

FallonCarringtonWannabe · 25/12/2021 20:03

If you dont have children id have ended it anyway. I wouldnt date a smoker.

Soembarrrrassed · 25/12/2021 20:03

He’s had two beers and that’s it so definitely not drunk (small ones)

Sounds like his attention and thoughts were elsewhere tbh. Especially as you say it’s so out of character.

nzeire · 25/12/2021 20:05

Gross

Grimchmas · 25/12/2021 20:06

Wow. Well I'd fancy him a LOT less for a start.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 25/12/2021 20:09

Better he spat it out than vomitted!

BridStar · 25/12/2021 20:12

Troglodyte. Sounds thuggish.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 25/12/2021 20:12

This sounds like the sort of thing someone does to engineer a row so they get dumped to avoid having to end the relationship themselves.

plinkplinkfizzer · 25/12/2021 20:13

Most adults would just have excused themselves and went to the bathroom . Leave him at home with the pets next time .

DirtyDancing · 25/12/2021 20:13

If you end up with a fatty piece of food, or indeed something that isn't to your liking you just quietly as possibly discard it into your napkin. It's not difficult to not offend people and no need to announce anything or spit anything out.

Does he have not an ounce of decorum or basic manors?

WaltzingBetty · 25/12/2021 20:14

Have you asked him?
