To ask if you drink in pints or halves?

If you drink beer / cider / lager etc, do you drink in pints or by the half pint?

I know that historically 'ladies' were frowned upon for drinking a pint.

Now times are moving on is it more acceptable to drink a pint, do you and what are your views generally?

Mine is that if I want a pint I will have one. Saves going to the bar twice. But at the same time I don't want to be judged by others for it.

If I fancy a pint I'll have one.
I couldn't care less if I'm being judged....it's their problem not mine!

AgedVellum · 25/11/2021 11:39

If anyone in your vicinity feels you are somehow less of a woman for drinking pints, you should get better drinking buddies.

When I was a student in the 90s, there were a couple of old man pubs that refused to serve women pints in my city. In one about eight of us got male friends to go in and order eight pints, and then filed in and took their places and drank them. Unfemininely.

CounsellorTroi · 25/11/2021 11:40

Halves. Only because I’d spend the whole evening in the toilet otherwise. I don’t judge women who drink pints.

MiloAndEddie · 25/11/2021 11:40

I drink halves because I can’t keep up with those drinking pints generally.

XenoBitch · 25/11/2021 11:40

Pints every time. I don't give a crap if someone judges me for it. That is a problem they have, not me.

Mydogisagentleman · 25/11/2021 11:40

Pints

RedwineforSantaplease · 25/11/2021 11:40

Pints. It's 2021, who is judging women for drinking a pint?!

afrikat · 25/11/2021 11:41

I've only ever drunk pints

HelloBunny · 25/11/2021 11:41

Been drinking pints since my school days. Nobody’s every questioned it. Always hung around in a gang of lads & girls, all drinking pints together. I’ll have a half, now I’m older, as I can’t tolerate alcohol much anymore.

Mushrooms0up · 25/11/2021 11:41

I normally start with a pint and move to halves - purely because I tend to drink with DH and he drinks twice as fast so the rounds even out.

I do not care either way if anyone chooses to drink a pint or a half

Dollywilde · 25/11/2021 11:41

Oh god, pints. I can’t be bothered, with what people think. But then, when my local pub stopped selling 250ml measures of wine (they only sold 175 and 125ml options for a while), I just bought two 125s and poured them into the same glass. So I’m clearly not someone governed by what is ladylike Grin

Thelnebriati · 25/11/2021 11:42

Is that still a thing? Jeez. I'm old enough to remember when women couldn't go into a pub alone and get served.
It depends what I'm drinking, I usually prefer bottled beer. I drink it from the bottle.

Amberflames · 25/11/2021 11:42

WTAF? This cannot be a serious post. Who judges women for drinking pints nowadays? This isn’t the 1970s.

Bouncebacker · 25/11/2021 11:43

I drink whatever I want to because it’s not the olden days anymore…

BrightYellowDaffodil · 25/11/2021 11:44

Pints. I only drink halves if I actually want to consume a half-pint.

I thought the whole 'judging a woman for drinking a pint because it's unladylike' had died out a loooong time ago.

Trisolaris · 25/11/2021 11:47

Whichever I feel like at the time. (To drink that is, not how much of a lady I feel)

goose1964 · 25/11/2021 11:48

Usually a pint, even though I started drinking in pubs in the early 80s it was acceptable for women to drink pints. The only person who wouldn't buy me pints was my grandfather, he used to buy me two halves.

Amberflames · 25/11/2021 11:57

When I worked in a pub in the 90s there were plenty of men who would always stress if they were ordering a half that it was for “the Mrs”. This was often done by requesting the half in a “ladies glass”.

BlueShirtGirl · 25/11/2021 11:59

Just realised I only ever drink half halves! And I guess that’s because I a) am a lightweight and b) wanted to appear ladylike when younger?

DeepaBeesKit · 25/11/2021 11:59

Depends how thirsty I am, or how long I am staying!

No objection to ladies drinking pints. My mother is funny about it though. I ignore her.

My late FIL would always ask for my half in a “ladies glass”!
ArblemarchTFruitbat · 25/11/2021 12:05

Pints, always have done since I had my first drink in a pub in 1992. DGAF if people think it's unladylike - and in fact no one has ever commented on it.

Though I've had a few instances of being with a male companion who isn't drinking or is drinking a half, and the bar staff/waiting staff always give my pint to the bloke.

VapeVamp12 · 25/11/2021 12:12

My first boyfriend when I was about 17/18 wouldn't ever let me order pints. Said they were mens drinks. This was in 2002. It made me feel relly weird about it for years aftrwards and sometimes i'd even order two halves at the same time.

Now i'm in my 30's I don't care and love a pint sometimes!

Maverick101 · 25/11/2021 12:13

What time warp are you in? I was drinking pints over 30 years ago

FangsForTheMemory · 25/11/2021 12:13

I find pubs serve me a pint even if I order a half!
