To ask if you drink in pints or halves?

If you drink beer / cider / lager etc, do you drink in pints or by the half pint?

I know that historically 'ladies' were frowned upon for drinking a pint.

Now times are moving on is it more acceptable to drink a pint, do you and what are your views generally?

Mine is that if I want a pint I will have one. Saves going to the bar twice. But at the same time I don't want to be judged by others for it.

Pints. I've never drunk a half.

JunoMcDuff · 25/11/2021 13:12

Actually that's not true. At beer festivals I'll sometimes have a half or a third if I'm not sure I'll like it.

At a beer festival a pint glass marks you out as a bit of a novice 😂

A half (or third if available) means that you can try more of the available beers. You don't want to be stuck with a whole pint, especially not of something a bit "interesting".

Half pint purely because it would start getting warm by the time I had managed to drink it all
trumpisagit · 25/11/2021 13:18

Like many previous posters I have been drinking pints since the early 90s.
Where do you live where there is judgment on women for the size of their drink?

Usernameismyname01 · 25/11/2021 13:26

im a half drinker, DH drinks fast than me so i have half to his every one.

i also dont want a pint because its big and sits for up to 1/2 hr before its gone so tends to go warm and a bit flat - hate warm lager

MasterBeth · 25/11/2021 13:26

I don’t give a shit about being judged by idiots.

CMOTDibbler · 25/11/2021 13:36

Pints since I was 18 in 1990. Pref in a handled glass. At a beer festival I get a pint glass (as thats the preferred glass at home) but they are always lined to half pint as well and often a third as well, and I'll get a half.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 25/11/2021 13:39

Deoends how thirsty I am. And how much time we have.

PooWillyNameChange · 25/11/2021 13:42

I've never heard of this. If I want a pint I drink a pint. Sometimes DH fancies a half!

DukkaDukka · 25/11/2021 13:49

Pints! Who the fuck judges this? Hmm

I also like real ale. Plenty of times the bar staff have handed me the gin that DH has ordered and him the pint. And I’ve made a point of swapping them round.

Riapia · 25/11/2021 13:52

My grandad told me. “Never trust a man that drinks halves.”
Didn’t mention women though.

UnsuitableHat · 25/11/2021 13:53

Pints, and think nothing of it, but remember going to bars in the 80s and even 90s where they wouldn't serve pints to women.

OneTC · 25/11/2021 13:55

I drink pints. I would like to drink half but they are too small. Schooner is perfect

Elaine7878 · 25/11/2021 13:58

Halves otherwise I look like that scene from Lord of the Rings when the hobbits drink massive drinks. I have really small hands Blush

But I don't know anyone who judges people on what they drink, or what size they order it in.

DazedandConcerned · 25/11/2021 13:58

Pints.

When we moved to England one of my cousins told my husband to get me in line because I drank pints. Also, his wife wouldn’t be embarrassing him like that in public. Never occurred to me there was anything wrong with it - it’s all we drank in Canada.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 25/11/2021 14:00

Pints unless I have finished my pint and everyone is lagging behind. I'll get myself half before we leave.

QualityChecked · 25/11/2021 14:03

Pints, but I do switch to halves early to slow down my drinking and tip them into a my pint glass. Beer is a small glass feels all wrong in my hand.

I've done this for at least 25 years. It's really not unusual to see women drinking pints.

FTEngineerM · 25/11/2021 14:05

Pint, burping at the end is optional.

BeyondShrinks · 25/11/2021 14:06

I have literally never ordered a half in a pub, either for myself or anyone else. My mum drinks pints!

Time2Move · 25/11/2021 14:10

I drink whatever I fancy. Quite often halves these days as I don't drink much. But I am most certainly not ladylike, and if anyone suggested I was I would be extremely offended.

Picklypickles · 25/11/2021 14:10

Not been out drinking it years but it always used to be a half, I got a pint once and was horribly sick so I think its put me off! I'm only small with a little pea-sized bladder, I don't drink pints of non-alcoholic drinks either as I'd never be off the toilet! I also worry about looking like a hobbit with a pint in my stumpy little hands!

gogohm · 25/11/2021 14:12

I have rarely bought a half (unless I'm driving) been drinking pints since the 1990's

gogohm · 25/11/2021 14:14

But we have a tap room that serves 2/3 pints, I do order them sometimes if it's strong (6%+) fancy ale
