To ask if you drink in pints or halves?

If you drink beer / cider / lager etc, do you drink in pints or by the half pint?

I know that historically 'ladies' were frowned upon for drinking a pint.

Now times are moving on is it more acceptable to drink a pint, do you and what are your views generally?

Mine is that if I want a pint I will have one. Saves going to the bar twice. But at the same time I don't want to be judged by others for it.

I don't drink lager or beer etc but if I did it would be in pints.

Just like it's always a double or a large wine.

shouldistop · 25/11/2021 12:14

I usually drink bottles of lager but I would drink a pint without feeling embarrassed about it if I fancied one.

FangsForTheMemory · 25/11/2021 12:14

The only person who's ever commented on me drinking a pint was an elderly aunt who was given to snide comments.

HarrietsChariot · 25/11/2021 12:16

Pints. I know Al Murray the Pub Landlord used to say "Pint for the fella, glass of white wine for the lady" but that character was making fun of people who thought like he did.

SnekkinOnDown · 25/11/2021 12:16

Pints! I am such a fan I even make myself vodka and coke in pints. Fill the glass with ice and then a double vodka and top up with coke. Check a straw in and out last for ages and stays cold. Win win, especially if I'm spending an hour in my sex pond.

KimDeals · 25/11/2021 12:18

Pints! I judge those who drink halves Wink

Sirzy · 25/11/2021 12:19

Pints.

I remember my grandma making a sarcy comment to my Mum when she drank a pint when I was younger so that may have influenced my decision Grin

sbhydrogen · 25/11/2021 12:24

I've always drunk pints. I didn't know there was judgement against women for drinking pints, as it's not the 1800s.

I drink halves or even thirds at beer festivals though, but only as I don't want to be stuck with a pint of questionable beer. Grin

Chocolatewheatos · 25/11/2021 12:25

Pints. Most older women I know drink halves though

AryaStarkWolf · 25/11/2021 12:27

Not really a fan of draught beer, I get a bottle when I'm drinking beer

TheSoapyFrog · 25/11/2021 12:28

Pints. It's been a long time since I've heard of women being judged for having pints.

swampytiggaa · 25/11/2021 12:29

I’ve drunk pints since I was 18. I’m 52 now and have no intention of stopping 😊 I also drink bitter which apparently is not a feminine drink…

FluffyBooBoo · 25/11/2021 12:33

I drink whichever one I want at the time. Usually a pint, but occasionally I'll have a half.

Danikm151 · 25/11/2021 12:34

I have a half pint because I end up spilling pints on the dance floor haha

whatagloriousthingtobe · 25/11/2021 12:37

When I was younger I'd drink pints (don't really drink anymore) but my bladder knew about it !

lazylinguist · 25/11/2021 12:39

Pints. Have been drinking them for 30 years.

TheBestSpoon · 25/11/2021 12:40

I drink halves, but not because of any prejudice about pints! It's just because a) I'm a slow beer drinker, so helps with rounds, b) means it's not gone warm by the time I get to the last bit and c) I have stupidly small hands and am clumsy so often find pints unwieldy and am more likely to spill them.

Plus half pints means you can try more different tasty beers. Grin

Rumplestrumpet · 25/11/2021 12:40

Huh?! I was drinking pints in the 90s, no one ever had an issue with it then, can't imagine anyone under 80 would today!

Holothane · 25/11/2021 12:41

Pints even if it’s lemon and lime today or coke.

19lottie82 · 25/11/2021 12:43

Pints….. yum!

freelions · 25/11/2021 12:46

I will order what I fancy which is usually a pint but occasionally a half if I'm driving or if I haven't quite finished my previous drink and want to buy time to catch up

What people may or may not think about me drinking pints is not a consideration

idontlikealdi · 25/11/2021 12:48

Whatever I fancy at the time. I also don't have to sit in the ' lounge bar' separated from them men drinking pints.

HardbackWriter · 25/11/2021 12:52

Pints. I wouldn't say I've ever felt judged for it, but when I was younger I used to get comments - some approvingly telling me it was 'sexy', some expressing surprise or telling me it might make me fat Hmm - from creepy men about it, but I think more because they thought it was an 'in' than because they really had strong views on what women drink. I'm now getting progressively more invisible (and marvellous it is too!) and can't remember the last time anyone commented on my pint.

SquigglePigs · 25/11/2021 13:09

Pints (unless I don't actually want a whole one). I started drinking pints when I went to university in 2000. When I went home during the first term and ordered a pint when out with my parents my DM realised there was no good reason for only drinking halves so she switched to pints too.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 25/11/2021 13:09

I drink pints unless perhaps I have limited time or am only having a half of that beer like at a beer festival or if not wanting to drink much.

I'm more judgey about people drinking repeated halves of the same thing, it is daft as it is normally more expensive, and means more trips to the bar. Fair enough if you drink very slowly compared to the rest of the group, but generally it just seems a bit prissy when women drink say 6 halves while the men drink 3 pints.

What makes me laugh most though is the concept of the "ladies glass" I want a beer, in a proper glass not a stupid oversized wine glass. Have many times raised eyebrows when DH and I have a pint and a half of bitter and I give him the ladies glass!
