Why do people wear their work lanyards in the supermarket

Am I the only one that finds this odd? Lots of people seem to do this in one of my local supermarkets, mainly women of a certain age. Sometimes clearly identifying where they work. I always zip mine away in a pocket of my bag.

OP posts:

Because they have forgotten to take it off I'd imagine

PingedPotato · 15/11/2021 17:46

Or they work in the supermarket?

MattHancocksSexTape · 15/11/2021 17:47

Because they aren’t as clever and amazing as you.

ClemDanFango · 15/11/2021 17:47

Who cares?

KittenKong · 15/11/2021 17:48

Because mine is a pretty suffragette coloured one and I like it.

Plus I need it to get in and out of the building and it’s a pain in the backside to rifle through my bag or pockets when my hands are full.

icedcoffees · 15/11/2021 17:48

Because they've forgotten to take it off, I'd imagine.

Does it really matter?

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 15/11/2021 17:48

I don't really go to the office anymore but need a lanyard when I do. I leave mine on until I come home as is comes off when I get changed and goes on a hook. I don't have a bag so if I take it off before then I would probably lose it. Why does it bother you in the slightest? Odd.

LethargicActress · 15/11/2021 17:48

Because they’re stopping in at the supermarket on the way home from work and they’ve forgotten to take it off. Or it’s just part of their routine to take it off and hang it up when they get home.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/11/2021 17:49

What do you think will happen if the other shoppers identify where they work?

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/11/2021 17:49

Because I forget.

I once got a discount I didn't know about because of it though!

FuzzyPuffling · 15/11/2021 17:49

They are "Women of a certain age"???

As soon as you hit 40 or 50 or whatever age you deem "certain" you instantly forget who you are and need to wear a lanyard so you can constantly refer to it.

PingedPotato · 15/11/2021 17:49

Why are you close enough to them to read it and why are your eyes looking at lanyard level?

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 15/11/2021 17:50

@KittenKong where did you get your suffragette lanyard? I quite fancy one of those

LittleBearPad · 15/11/2021 17:50

@PingedPotato

Because they have forgotten to take it off I'd imagine
This

You couldn’t guess where I work from mine so I only take it off when I remember.

I'm not even sure what the certain age is
Nearlytheretrees · 15/11/2021 17:50

Because it's easier than keep taking it off and less chance of misplacing it

WindyWindsor · 15/11/2021 17:50

Are you taking about at lunch time? I've definitely completely forgotten to take my work lanyard off on my quick trip to a supermarket to buy a sandwich for lunch. Manly lanyards need to be used to enter and exit work buildings so not something you can just chuck in your bag and forget about. Surely it's more than likely that rather than soneone trying to show off where they work?

MistyFrequencies · 15/11/2021 17:50

Sometimes I forget. It's never purposeful. I don't want to be identified outside of work.

Waahingwashingwashing · 15/11/2021 17:50

What happens if people can identify where I work from my lanyard in the supermarket?

Aposterhasnoname · 15/11/2021 17:51

Because you forget about it. It was only when I saw this thread title that I realised I’m at home, sat on the sofa, and still wearing mine.

Lemonsyellow · 15/11/2021 17:51

I never take mine off until l get home from work.

WindyWindsor · 15/11/2021 17:51

I meant Many* not manly! Grin

Or if they are of a very 'certain age' and are very forgetful, some kind soul may take return them to their work?
FrownedUpon · 15/11/2021 17:52

Are you suggesting they’re showing off about where they work or how important they are? You may have a point actually.
