Why do people wear their work lanyards in the supermarket

Am I the only one that finds this odd? Lots of people seem to do this in one of my local supermarkets, mainly women of a certain age. Sometimes clearly identifying where they work. I always zip mine away in a pocket of my bag.

Because if I'm popping to the supermarket after work and I were to put it in my handbag before walking through the supermarket door when I got home after unpacking my shopping I'd probably have one of those "where is my lanyard" moments.

As a "woman of a certain age" that's what happens 🙄

the card fell out of mine once!
luckily it was in the staff car park and returned to me
but i could do no work without it
plus you should not drive wearing one as said previously.
i now take it off at lunch
and take it off before leaving

Perhaps she is being held hostage.....by a lanyardConfused

I've never really noticed people doing it. Until the pandemic. Then it seemed to be men, of all ages, mainly dressed in office wear suggesting a non clinical role, flashing their NHS lanyards to push past the queues in supermarkets.
