To get a fucking huge bed?

I'm about to move to icu and I've been told I'll be doing night permanently for 4 months, 4 nights at once mom-Thursday. That's fine with me it's a bit more money, but we've just moved into a new house and we've got the worst bed ever. It's an 'occasional double' so bloody tiny. I hate it. We stayed in my in-laws spare room recently and it was heavenly. A king size bed from John Ryan by design which honestly felt like sleeping on a cloud.

So coming back to now. I've measured up and it would be doable to put a superking size zip and link bed in our room, but I'd have to lose my bedside table. I'm thinking of saying it could be our Christmas present to each other Blush a night where we don't wake each other up and kick each other repeatedly!

Would you if you could? It would be amazing but Will I miss my table? It has no drawers so I'm not losing storage, it has an Alexa, a lamp and a cup on it 99% of the time and my neom well-being pod. I do have a very low and deep window sill near by too though so maybe I could just put it all there?

I would, without a doubt.
We spend so many hours of our lives in bed, it's worth getting a lovely one.
Put a shelf or something up

Chargreen · 12/11/2021 02:58

Yes do it. We have a super king now and would never go back. When we have to stay in a double at my parents’ place, we wonder how we ever got any sleep

halesie · 12/11/2021 02:59

YANBU

do it.

best advice we ever got from friends who had kids before us was to get a super king. amazing. feels luxurious over a decade later Smile

salsmum · 12/11/2021 03:02

The two things in life that should be good, a bed and a pair of shoes because if you're not in one you're in the other.

dontletthemugglesgetyoudownn · 12/11/2021 03:05

How thick am I? A fucking shelf!!! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ right I'm ordering it!

Do it. We don't have the biggest of bedrooms, so I was a bit unsure. It's worth every inch of space it takes up.

dontletthemugglesgetyoudownn · 12/11/2021 03:13

I've bought the same one DHs parents have. Oh my god I'm so excited! This has been an extremely good break! I don't want stuff for Christmas that will end up in landfill and this will make my life so much easier. Plus we have 2 dogs who refuse to sleep anywhere else but our bed.

Do people have separate duvets? If you do do you get the same bedding just twice?

IreneIddesleigh · 12/11/2021 03:36

Congratulations on your new bed! I love our big bed. It really does make an amazing difference to have enough room when you're sleeping!

We don't have separate duvets (yet), but if you have different temperature preferences, that might be a smart choice, even aside from the whole tug of war issue. DH likes it warmer than I do, so he almost always has an extra blanket on his half of the bed, whereas I'll sometimes push mine off completely.

USaYwHatNow · 12/11/2021 03:36

You have 100% made the right choice! We went from a small double to a super king and wonder daily as to how we managed to fit into that bed 😂 as a shift working midwife it was heaven. Now non clinical however wake up at completely different times to my husband so it's great as the bed is so big there's minimal disturbance.

We use one big duvet but then add/remove blankets as necessary as I like to bake whereas he doesn't.

We have one smallish dog who likes to sleep sideways, and a cat who will sometimes pay a visit in the night too and its much more manageable!

I'm actually quite excited for you 😂😂

Atozofpoodles · 12/11/2021 04:09

Do it! You will not regret it.

boreon · 12/11/2021 04:34

I would never ever have any other bed than a super king! When we've moved house previously, if the bedroom wasn't big enough for one then the house was not for me!
I bloody love my bed can you tell

boreon · 12/11/2021 04:35

We just have one duvet

GrrrlPwr · 12/11/2021 04:40

Yay! Definitely the right decision. We have a superking and do have 2 double duvets. I wrap myself up, so DH gets freezing if we share a duvet. We both get much better sleep. Bedside tables are overrated!

Foldinthecheese · 12/11/2021 04:47

Congratulations! We have a superking and ended up in a double while at a hotel recently. It completely solidified that we could never go back to a smaller bed. When we got into bed at home I told my husband how pleased I was that he was so far away from me.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 12/11/2021 04:49

Your life is literally about to change Smile A huge comfortable bed is just one of the best things in the world (especially for those of us with insomnia!) And working nights is hard. Working nights in ICU, you definitely deserve the very best bed you can get.

How long do you have to wait for delivery?

LuckyAmy1986 · 12/11/2021 05:07

@dontletthemugglesgetyoudownn we have a super king and two separate king duvets with matching covers. A simba mattress. Heaven!!!

LuckyAmy1986 · 12/11/2021 05:08

Oh but the king duvets only work because we both like wrapping our legs around them! Otherwise I’d get doubles maybe.

BetterthanIthink · 12/11/2021 05:30

I’ve also been contemplating this. This has made up my mind to do it Smile
Just to find the right mattress now, any recommendations that’s not a memory foam one ?

agteacht · 12/11/2021 05:32

Has anyone ever got a bed bigger than a super king?!

Coffeeonmytoffee · 12/11/2021 05:35

Love my superking. If my oh and and I ever divorce he can have the kids but I'll fight him to the highest court in the land for my bed.

MrsBungle · 12/11/2021 05:36

Do it! I got a super king in the summer and I love getting in to bed every night! It’s fab.

Sunshineandrainbow · 12/11/2021 05:39

Would something like this fit?

To get a fucking huge bed?
Caspianberg · 12/11/2021 05:45

Get a super king wool duvet from Baavet to go with it.

Our bed is amazing. You can fit a bed hogging child in. The middle and still have decent space.

You literally spend on average 1/3 of your life in bed

TheLeadbetterLife · 12/11/2021 05:47

Superking beds are just fantastic. We recently got separate mattresses and linen for ours as well, because my husband is a terrible fidget and I am a terribly light sleeper. Having separate duvets, like the Germans do, makes a big difference.

I can't bear staying at my in-laws, because they have these stingy double beds with uncomfortable mattresses, despite huge bedrooms. I never get a wink of sleep.
