To get a fucking huge bed?

I'm about to move to icu and I've been told I'll be doing night permanently for 4 months, 4 nights at once mom-Thursday. That's fine with me it's a bit more money, but we've just moved into a new house and we've got the worst bed ever. It's an 'occasional double' so bloody tiny. I hate it. We stayed in my in-laws spare room recently and it was heavenly. A king size bed from John Ryan by design which honestly felt like sleeping on a cloud.

So coming back to now. I've measured up and it would be doable to put a superking size zip and link bed in our room, but I'd have to lose my bedside table. I'm thinking of saying it could be our Christmas present to each other Blush a night where we don't wake each other up and kick each other repeatedly!

Would you if you could? It would be amazing but Will I miss my table? It has no drawers so I'm not losing storage, it has an Alexa, a lamp and a cup on it 99% of the time and my neom well-being pod. I do have a very low and deep window sill near by too though so maybe I could just put it all there?

I’m so jealous. I’m desperate to change our king to a super king but dh keeps saying the floorboards won’t take the weight. I think he’s just being tight.
Do you think I could just order it & get it set up &
He wouldn’t notice?? I

notangelinajolie · 13/11/2021 00:25

The bigger the better as far as I am concerned.
Me and DH have always squished into a double bed. We have just downsized and have less bedrooms than we used to have. We are currently waiting for planning permission for an extension to add another bedroom - in the meantime we have more beds than rooms.
So, in our bedroom we now have our old double and a single pushed up together. We now have the bed space of my dreams. No matter how hard he tries my DH cannot invade my space. It is sleeping heaven. I have no idea what size bed a double and a single pushed together is but I'm going to be buying one.

whyiscakesodelicious · 13/11/2021 00:31

When we moved in our new house, the first thing on the list was a super king size bed, we'd been used to a double. It is without doubt the best purchase I've ever made Smile it's big enough for both me & OH and 3 year DD when she wakes up in the night. Do it, you won't regret it

Annonnimoouse42 · 13/11/2021 00:50

I get really bad, frequent migraine and I was close to putting a pillow over DHs face due to his snoring. I bought a super king mahogany sleigh bed off eBay for £300 and bought 2 single Ikea Euro mattresses to fit, which are very comfortable. it's in the spare room for me to hide out in with the cats when my head hurts. I love it.

XenoBitch · 13/11/2021 00:55

I used to have a superking, but moved and it filled the room. Plus, the novelty wore out after changing the bedding a few times.

Ericaequites · 13/11/2021 02:54

A standard 135 cm bed is no wider than two cribs. Though it may be tempting as a space saver, twin bunk beds are no good for a couple who enjoys intimacy.

Ireolu · 13/11/2021 03:06

Best thing we did was go from double to superking. So much more space!

GeorgiaGirl52 · 13/11/2021 03:28

@salsmum

The two things in life that should be good, a bed and a pair of shoes because if you're not in one you're in the other.
So true^
LoveFall · 13/11/2021 03:38

Absolutely separate duvets. Incredible. You can both fit under one when you want!

Ragwort · 13/11/2021 03:40

I love my SKB, I also love the fact that my DH sleeps in another room in a KSB ... the perfect solution Grin.

AntiMaskersAreTwats · 13/11/2021 06:34

We have just got 2 coverless single duvets on our superking. Life changing! Just thrown the whole duvet in the washing machine. Never have to change a duvet cover again.

Kernowfornia · 13/11/2021 14:54

@TuftyMarmoset

What puts me off is the struggle to put on a duvet cover any bigger than a double!
Follow other advice above : if vertically challenged and you have stair banister you can shake over the stair void for extra height.
dontletthemugglesgetyoudownn · 14/11/2021 00:20

I ordered it!!! And a base and a headboard!!!

We have a super king and I have no idea how we cooed for so long in a regular double. We recently dtaye innone at my parents and barely slept.
The only downside is we have a sighthound who just seems to stretch to fill the space so I still get kicked regularly when she is in with us.

ThinWomansBrain · 14/11/2021 01:34

Only have a double - but it is just me, although it would get around the problem that the cat always wants to be in the centre of the bed, so I have to squidge around her.

ThinWomansBrain · 14/11/2021 01:36

Don't try weighted blankets then - brilliant to sleep with, hell on earth to change the cover.

Duckrace · 14/11/2021 03:46

Careful what you wish for. I have one. Have had it for years. Difficult to change without help, and new bedding of all sorts costs a fortune. You need super king pillows and cases, too.

BashfulClam · 14/11/2021 14:07

@Duckrace I manage to change mine in my own. I also just kept normal pillows, yes there is space around them but who sees my bed apart from me and my husband?

Poppins2016 · 14/11/2021 14:13

Relatives have a super king in their spare room, it's an absolute joy staying with them purely because we have enough space in bed! Sadly a super king wouldn't fit in any of our bedrooms...

I didn't even know super king pillows existed! saying that, I've just bought a Relyon pillow after recommended on Mumsnet and OMG - it's fantastic. So good when my migraine is really bad, and no ear pain
VeganCheesePlease · 14/11/2021 14:20

One spend I have never, ever regretted is our king size bed. I would go ahead and get it.

paisley256 · 14/11/2021 14:23

I treat myself after having an illness to a superking size bed, it was without a doubt the best thing I've bought. I love it soooo much!

You can get cheap bedding, I've just bought some cooling bedding from Asda for £24 M&S in the sale, la redoute always has offers, TK maxx, dunelm... it's nowhere as expensive as it used to be Changing it is ok, I do it by myself
DollyParton2 · 14/11/2021 14:44

We have a super king. It’s heaven. I’d never go smaller again.
