To be really sick of people blaming Labour for the Tories

WTAF? It's a Tory government doing this stuff, yet rather than try voting for someone else, people are tripping over themselves to bleat on about weak leader, lack of opposition etc
If a "strong leader" is some twat like Boris then I won't be able to vote Labour. For now and in the last few elections, I haven't needed some Boris-alike twat at the helm to convince me to Labour, nor should anyone else.

Fair enough if you are an actual Tory and would vote for a dead horse with a blue rosette but anyone who is a floating voter - how much more shit do the Tories need to be for you to stop blaming Labour for them?

OP posts:
Sean2001 · 08/11/2021 16:40

I agree. Absolutely OP.

Nothing else to add.

Cheerychirpy · 08/11/2021 16:43

Many, many people loathed Jeremy Corbin and his vile anti Semitic, terrorist supporting views. His maths literally did not add up either. He was a joke. I voted Labour, but many didn’t because of him and him only. He and his supporters are why we have the Tory government we have now.

ColouringPencils · 08/11/2021 16:46

They are blaming Labour for being weak and unconvincing and losing votes to someone who doesn't even pretend he gives a shit. Makes perfect sense to me.

SW1amp · 08/11/2021 16:48

You’re underestimating how many voters go for the ‘least bad’ party rather than have strong allegiances to a particular party or ideology

Labour has consistently failed to read the room on so many issues over the years and failed to bring the tories to task on their own failings

I think it’s left massive amounts of people with a ‘better the devil we know’ attitude rather than taking a punt on a Labour Party in absolute disarray

If they can’t be an effective opposition party, it won’t give many people much confidence in them becoming an effective government either

Nappyvalley15 · 08/11/2021 16:51

I think you are relying on a hatred of the Tories to propel Labour to power and that is part of the problem. Labour have to look at how to attract voters and they just don't seem interested in doing that beyond a few narrow groups.

Caselgarcia · 08/11/2021 16:52

It should be an open goal for Labour, but sadly it isn't. They are in their own mess with their MP being found guilty in court and losing the whip. The electorate are crying out for decent, honourable local MPs, sadly we seem to be truly lacking. How many can be described as Statesmanlike?

Mybalconyiscracking · 08/11/2021 16:53

Well I’d vote for Labour if they weren’t shit!

Iggly · 08/11/2021 16:54

I agree.

The Tories are being actively shit and with a large majority, a decent opposition will make no fucking difference.

Why? Because we don’t have an election coming up! Pointless saying what about Labour etc etc

Iggly · 08/11/2021 16:54

@Mybalconyiscracking

Well I’d vote for Labour if they weren’t shit!
When? It makes no difference right now does it.
MrsGeralt · 08/11/2021 16:55

It's labour's job to put up an opposition and they've absolutely failed miserably for years. Damn right they're culpable.

Saoirse82 · 08/11/2021 16:57

100% agree OP

catgirl1976 · 08/11/2021 16:59

I hate the Tories and I have traditionally been a labour voter but I cannot found for them now so you are being a bit U. I won’t vote Tory but I won’t vote labour or Lib Dem either as thing stand.

If you don’t recognise my sex you don’t get my x.

FourTeaFallOut · 08/11/2021 17:02

I do blame the Labour Party. Here are the Tories, a utter shower of shite. And everybody knows it. And yet they are preferable to the navel gazing Labour party who forgot they are meant to represent the electorate and not preach at them.

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/11/2021 17:02

YANBU, I'm tired of hearing "but Labour...". If you voted for Boris Johnson's Conservative party, own it.🙄

And how does that let the Tories off the hook for being a bunch of money grabbing criminals?

The Tories could behave so much better but don’t. They aren’t being forced to do this.

FourTeaFallOut · 08/11/2021 17:24

Of course it doesn't let them off the hook and nothing I wrote should suggest to you that's what I think.

How are Labour not leading in the polls? Why aren't people desperate for a Labour government with this backdrop? What are they doing wrong when most people think the Tories are the least worst option?

This should be so easy for Labour - and yet they are failing to offer people an alternative they prefer to that bunch of criminals.

Nappyvalley15 · 08/11/2021 17:28

But most people slagging off the Tories probably didn't vote for them. They probably abstained or voted for parties other than Labour. Instead of blaming the electorate for making the wrong choice, Labour need to make themselves the obvious choice for more people. But they are too stubborn and too ideological to do so.

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/11/2021 17:29

It doesn't matter if Labour are leading in the polls or not, we're stuck with a parliament lead by a corrupt liar for the next few years. That is down to people who voted Conservative. No one else.

Iggly · 08/11/2021 17:32

Because where is the criticism of the Tories? People spend a lot of energy berating Labour. But they should spend that energy pressurising the Tories to do better. There’s only so much energy to go around.
SexyNeckbeard · 08/11/2021 17:33

It's an open goal and labour are too much of a joke to tap the ball in. Instead of asking why did people vote Tory, why not ask why people didn't vote Labour?

FourTeaFallOut · 08/11/2021 17:38

That is down to people who voted Conservative. No one else.

People who voted Labour all their lives voted Conservative in the last election. Entire areas where previously you couldn't say Tory out loud without somone spitting on the ground returned a Conservative mp for the first time in the last election.

The sheer arrogance to think Labour didn't do anything wrong and it was, in fact, the electorate who was wrong will be exactly the reason why Labour won't win the next election either, unless they sort themselves out.

Pineapplequeen · 08/11/2021 17:40

Labour told me I wasn't welcome in their party sop what do you expect?

People feel betrayed by Labour. The Tories have never changed - people know who they are - it was Labour that changed and started attacking its electorate.

FourTeaFallOut · 08/11/2021 17:43

Yeah, I'll berate labour. I fucking want to vote labour. I want to have a party that represents a left of centre politics in government without the regressive identity bullshit and moralising.

Boood · 08/11/2021 17:47

Why can’t Labour have enough ideas and credibility that I want to vote for them, rather than trying to rely on guilt tripping me into doing it by default?

Theluggage15 · 08/11/2021 17:47

Hahaha. Yes it’s the stupid people not voting how they should. How dare they? All this ‘if people voted Conservative they should own it’, well they probably do, what’s the problem? It’s up to Labour to convince the electorate they have something to offer. You seem to be blaming the Tories for winning.
