Chanel on play dates

Christmasadverthell · 04/11/2021 13:52

Went to one of my regular play dates with my Ds, 3 yesterday and noticed again the number of beautiful Chanel bags, designer sandals etc etc. Lovely, down to earth mums, nice friends, but I’m just not in the same league with my Zara bag & trainers
Aibu in feeling a bit shit about it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don’t feel shit. It’s what they choose to spend their money on. You choose to spend your money differently.

All my bags are mulberry, doesn’t make me better than the mum using a river island bag.

Willtheymakemegoonthemeds · 04/11/2021 13:53

zara? thats posh for me

Same.
3WildOnes · 04/11/2021 13:55

If I had a Chanel bag I would wear it every day. I would want my money’s worth.

2typesofjungle · 04/11/2021 13:55

Yabu to think these women look at you and your stuff and judge you for it, they probably couldn't really care less what shoes you are wearing.

marykitty · 04/11/2021 13:55

Zara? I am wearing now Leggings from Aldi

mumsie8 · 04/11/2021 13:56

'Comparison is the thief of all joy'

Don't get bogged down with comparison OP. Designer anything means very little in the grand scheme of things. Just be happy in the friendships you have fostered, the rest is simply window dressing.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 04/11/2021 13:56

Unless the bag said CHANEL in neon orange foot high block capitals, I probably wouldn't even notice, And certainly wouldn't know if you'd bought your sandals from Primark or Prada.

marykitty · 04/11/2021 13:57

Really, do not even worry about this for one split second, it really does not matter, enjoy the playdates with your kid Flowers

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 04/11/2021 13:57

A bag's a bag. People who care what bag other people have are twats. You said they're nice people so I'm sure they don't give a stuff what bag you have, don't let it bother you.

LilianRose · 04/11/2021 13:57

Same. I’ve got my eye on a £90 Zara coat and it’s probably not going to happen. Possibly a supermarket version!
Sexnotgender · 04/11/2021 13:57

@3WildOnes

Absolutely! They literally just increased their prices by £1k on classic flaps this week. Insane.
pinkyredrose · 04/11/2021 13:57

Maybe they were fakes?

NatMoz · 04/11/2021 13:58

I have money but I don't spend it on Chanel bags, you're more likely to see me with an Osprey rucksack.

I spend my money differently that's all.

If I wanted a luxury item it would be jewellery, something I could give to my baby to inherit in the future.

Youdoyoutoday · 04/11/2021 13:59

My handbag is from Asda, as are my jeans, pants and top, trainers are sketchers.
Means nothing with the right people.

Were these mums judging you? Or are you comparing thus making yourself feel like crap??

NatMoz · 04/11/2021 13:59

Also thinking about it I do have a fake £5 Chanel bag from the market I wear to weddings. I can't tell the difference, I'm sure someone into it can but who cares.

ChrissyPlummer · 04/11/2021 13:59

Meh. Like pp said it’s what they choose to spend their money on. I’m more than happy with my Vans and Fjallraven backpacks. I do have an Aspinal bag but I rarely use it.

AMostExcellentStick · 04/11/2021 14:00

Some people have more money than others, it’s just how the world is. I get that it can be a bit depressing, but honestly if you have nice, down to earth friends, you’re doing pretty well in life.

shrunkenhead · 04/11/2021 14:01

I tend to assume they're all fake unless I know the person well enough to know what they spend their money on.

TeeTotaller1 · 04/11/2021 14:03

Slowwwwlyyyy pushes her Florence & Fred to one side......

Sexnotgender · 04/11/2021 14:05

@shrunkenhead

I tend to assume they're all fake unless I know the person well enough to know what they spend their money on.
Why? I find that weird. Is it because they’re mums?
thepeopleversuswork · 04/11/2021 14:07

a) They are probably knock-offs
b) They have chosen to spend money on this, you have decided to spend the same money more wisely. Good for you.
c) I guarantee you they won't notice or judge what handbag you use. If they do they are arseholes.

Life is too short to compare yourself to other people. You can never win and you will drive yourself nuts in the process.

Confiscatedpopit · 04/11/2021 14:08

You’d assume this about me. They don’t do much else but my mum and dad bring us back fakes every time they come back from Turkey! In fairness they are selective in what they buy and it all looks very nice usually. But don’t ever assume about others circumstances- it’s the thief of joy and you will usually be wrong anyway.

furbabymama87 · 04/11/2021 14:08

Don't assume that their life is better than yours or they're happier just because they're wearing Chanel. It's just material goods, not important.

Christmasadverthell · 04/11/2021 14:09

Definitely not fakes, very classy and understated, but I notice it and just want a bag too sometimes 🙈🤣
Don’t think they judge me at all and don’t get that vibe, plus if I felt they did, I wouldn’t be friends with them.
They all just are a lot wealthier than I am, it just stands out to me as we’re just average I’d say
