Chanel on play dates

Christmasadverthell · 04/11/2021 13:52

Went to one of my regular play dates with my Ds, 3 yesterday and noticed again the number of beautiful Chanel bags, designer sandals etc etc. Lovely, down to earth mums, nice friends, but I’m just not in the same league with my Zara bag & trainers
Aibu in feeling a bit shit about it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really like Zara and Mango! I feel good buying and wearing those things.

I've got a mate who's on her arsebones and she always has fancy designer stuff. I suspect not all of its real, although I know her watches and jewellery are. I think it helps her feel good whilst she's going through a hard time so I don't judge. I don't think she judges me for not being into luxury.

Maybe these mums get a bit of a much-needed boost from their fancy stuff? Be yourself, if you don't need that stuff then consider yourself lucky.

@Christmasadverthell

Could I get away with a market knock off though 🤣
No, people who can afford them would know a knock off and why try, it's not who you are. You buy what you can afford they're just able to afford a more expensive brand. I wouldn't be judging them for it, you've said they're nice so focus on that. Have a look at second hand shops and see if theres anything around, if it's that type of area you never know what you'll find.
HumousWhereTheHeartIs · 04/11/2021 15:21

I bet they aren't genuine

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 04/11/2021 15:22

Why? I find that weird. Is it because they’re mums? Maybe because the real ones cost thousands of pounds brand new or second hand.

The teeniest of them, flap bags, made for those who can't aford full size bags, sattart at about £250.00. And they'd be useless for mums, I doubt you coud get keys and a packet of tissues in them!

JudgeJ · 04/11/2021 15:23

@pinkyredrose

Maybe they were fakes?
Always my first thought is 'I wonder what stall that came from?'. I have my lovely Rolex watch, the real Mcoy, the man in Tijuana assured me.

The judgment on this thread of women who buy designer handbags is pretty intense.

Always is.
neededafart · 04/11/2021 15:26

Most likely fakes to be honest. They are so easy to buy online

Ozanj · 04/11/2021 15:28

I think it depends where you are and when the class starts. I live in a nice area where nearly all baby classes are paid for, and the Friday afternoon classes are full of Mums who are either working in very well paid jobs or are on mat leave from high paid jobs. The designer bags / shoes are definitely the real mccoy.

Nat6999 · 04/11/2021 15:28

I have a lovely fake LV handbag that someone who owned genuine LV couldn't tell the difference, I've owned it for years & often used it on the school run when ds was at primary school.

StoneColdBitch · 04/11/2021 15:30

Round here, if you see a Chanel bag, it's either a footballer's wife, someone who can't actually afford it who bought it with a credit card, or a fake. I wouldn't be impressed if I saw one - quite the opposite.

JSL52 · 04/11/2021 15:31

They could be from a market in Spain.

Dizzyhedgehog · 04/11/2021 15:31

My "handbag" is a neon yellow rucksack from Aldi. I couldn't care less what other people are putting their toy cars, crumbs, squished biscuits, lollipops or used tissues into...

Hoppinggreen · 04/11/2021 15:32

Where the feck do you live?

cuttlefishgame · 04/11/2021 15:32

@marykitty

Zara? I am wearing now Leggings from Aldi
Chanel? I am wearing Perfume from Next
DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 04/11/2021 15:32

I was temporarily in a walking/coffee "club" with handbag Primary school mums who brought their £400 handbags to walk around a muddy field and complain about women who didn't get a regular manicure ( ahem).
It didn't last long.

Funnily enough OH bought me a posh handbag (from an outlet store) after hearing the stories and I was thrilled with it, still have it, but I'm betting it wouldn't earn me any brownie points because will have moved on vastly since then. Unless ... vintage!
Now I've got a tiny bag which just holds keys, the phone and a lipstick and I wouldn't be without it.

entropynow · 04/11/2021 15:33

@Willtheymakemegoonthemeds

zara? thats posh for me
Exactly. Why do you care, OP? They're just labels. Probably all made in the same Chinese sweatshops.
ldfdyjxzyjkv · 04/11/2021 15:33

Fakes (both the bags and the mums)

My3cents1 · 04/11/2021 15:34

Chanel, LV, Mulberry... they all look naff. It all just screams look at me me me.

BadNomad · 04/11/2021 15:34

I don't get why people think they're probably fakes. A lot of people can afford designer bags. What's the point of a fake anyway? To pretend you have money you don't? Who cares.

beigebrownblue · 04/11/2021 15:36

I wonder how many CO3 emissions they are producing with their lifestyle?

Personally I'm prouder of a DD that shops in Vintage and charity shops, repairs and refashions her own clothes with a sewing machine.

Would also go with 'don't assume their lives are happier than yours'.

I would say potentially they have a lot on their conscience.

Yeah because it's bloody stupid and a waste of money. Don't want to be "judged"? Don't do dumb stuff. Simple. I've no patience with the "no-one is allowed to criticise anyone's choices" school. Can and will.
beigebrownblue · 04/11/2021 15:36

Sorry CO2 obviously

girlmom21 · 04/11/2021 15:37

OP's not in the U.K. I'm assuming she's in Spain. That's why there's the difference between her opinion of Zara and many of ours, at a guess.

beigebrownblue · 04/11/2021 15:38

I got some lovely designer perfume from Approved foods for ten per cent of the price.

They sell rejected goods because the boxes are damaged.

Would otherwise go to landfill

Nonone sprays the box do they?
