Would you pay?

I'm so sorry, I'm putting this up again because I'm hoping to get more opinions.

Went to the hairdressers and got a trim and dye. Was asked to leave the cash in the next day, as the card machine was broken. Came home and looked at my hair and it's so patchy! I haven't left the money in yet, but im tempted to just pay for the trim and not the dye. I don't want to ask them to do it again, as I don't trust them and I would feel really uncomfortable sitting there whilst they done it, as I'm quite an anxious person.

AIBU to just pay for the trim?

Would you pay?

I think that you can’t just decide not to pay - they have used the time and materials on your cut and colour, so they’re out of pocket.

I believe that it’s usual in these circumstances to give them the chance to put it right to your satisfaction. You’ve no need to be anxious about this - at the moment they haven’t done what you expected so they will be trying to make it right.

If you’re still not happy after that, then I think you discuss not paying/getting a refund so you can go elsewhere. But you can’t just not pay them at this stage, I fear.

ScaredOfDinosaurs · 01/11/2021 16:12

That's appalling quality. Ask them to fix it. They probably will, they won't want the risk of you complaining online and causing harm to the business. I am not saying you'd do that, only that it will be a concern for them.

Charlene1971 · 01/11/2021 16:20

I honestly would prefer not to get it fixed. After complaining to them, I would feel so uncomfortable sitting there whilst they fixed it. They weren't exactly the most professional people ever when I went (I'd never been there before). They turned paying customers away so that they could do eachothers hair, and one of the women was talking about her friends son being stabbed in the face during a night out at the weekend when I was sitting there in the salon.

I'm worried they'll start an argument with me when I tell them they done a poor job, they just seemed like the type.

I wouldn't pay until they have agreed to fix it. If you don't want them to then it's fair that they lose out I think as you paid for a service and you are not happy with it

traintraveller · 01/11/2021 16:24

YABU. I don't think just not paying is the right thing to do. Especially if you think they "seem the type" to argue with you for complaining, surely you'd be more worried about what they would do if you just didn't pay Hmm

So you think I should pay them out of fear? 🤔

Also, I'm more than happy to pay for the trim, as it was fine. But not the dye

You need to go back and talk to them about your concerns. I did a DIY job in lockdown that looked similar to that and I was fully aware it was awful Grin I’d be gutted to have got it in a salon

TotallySuper · 01/11/2021 16:29

YANBU it's terrible, surprised they just let you leave and pay the next day! They must trust you.

samesign · 01/11/2021 16:30

I wouldn't pay, it doesn't look a professional job, too patchy and orange, I would leave it until they call then complain if they don't call, no payment at all.

HikingforScenery · 01/11/2021 16:30

You need to give them a chance to rectify it . You can’t just refuse to pay

Scissor · 01/11/2021 16:31

They have spent both time and materials. You don't like it, you don't like the quality.. I'm assuming the same as a restaurant .. you complain swiftly and they offer to re-do or comp...You can't just not pay.

ThatsNiiice · 01/11/2021 16:34

You should pay and then tell them you aren't happy. Refusing to pay is a bit of a shitty move

Thats ultimate shitty behaviour
samesign · 01/11/2021 16:35

Well I wouldn't pay for a shit job

MrzClaus · 01/11/2021 16:36

You need to pay and tell them you'd like it fixing as it's banded. Did you previously have box dyed / home dyed hair? Did you tell the hairdresser this?

Yogawankonobi · 01/11/2021 16:36

You should pay but you should also tell them that you are unhappy.

Cas112 · 01/11/2021 16:37

I would ask them to correct it rather than not pay

Sorry, I really don't understand the logic here. Pay for something that looks terrible, and then complain that I'm not happy when they've got my money and there's nothing I can do about it? Eh? Confused

If they had done a good enough job, I would be happy to pay. But why would I pay for something that isn't enough?

The trim was good enough, so I'm definitely paying for that.

The job has been done whether you like it or not, they provided a service and have paid for labour, time and materials. You should pay and then ask them to rectify it.

Sounds to me like you just want something for nothing

Charlene1971 · 01/11/2021 16:39

If you buy something that's broken, would you pay for it and then complain about it? Would you pay a mechanic that broke your car?

My hair has been dyed, and it looks awful now. It was fine before.

No, I wanted a service done. It was not done to an agreeable standard.

I'm happy to pay for the trim.

You seem to have made up your mind so I'm not sure why you have asked the question.

vickyc90 · 01/11/2021 16:42

Did you have a colour on before? That looks like a box dye which has been covered up I get a similar line as my base is red

LaurieFairyCake · 01/11/2021 16:42

I wouldn't pay !

I'd take clear photos and say it's banded via email. the dark hair is shining through - then I would pay for the trim only.
