I'm so sorry, I'm putting this up again because I'm hoping to get more opinions.

Went to the hairdressers and got a trim and dye. Was asked to leave the cash in the next day, as the card machine was broken. Came home and looked at my hair and it's so patchy! I haven't left the money in yet, but im tempted to just pay for the trim and not the dye. I don't want to ask them to do it again, as I don't trust them and I would feel really uncomfortable sitting there whilst they done it, as I'm quite an anxious person.

AIBU to just pay for the trim?

Would you pay?

@ilovesooty

I don't know why people are so scared of hairdressers really. Mind you I've been going to the same one for years and would tell her straight up if she produced something I wasn't happy with.
That's great, and I think it's a brilliant thing that some people have the confidence to do that, but not everyone does.

Me too. I've had the same hairdresser for 10 years and I wouldn't let anyone else touch it 😬
@Charlene1971
Well in that case fair enough if you believe it was purposely negligent. Though it would have been better if you'd challenged on the spot, as now it may look like you accepted the standard of service at the time but are now withholding payment, so you might face a stern challenge.
No I completely understand that, but I didn't notice it at the time. I trusted that he knew what he was doing.

However, the proof is in the photo, it's clearly a terrible job 😬 I'm not just withholding payment to screw them over, I wouldn't do that if they'd done a good job.

@Sofiegiraffe there's a lot to be said for a hairdresser knowing your hair.

Charlene1971 · 01/11/2021 19:52

Lucky!! I've moved to a new area and wanted to try someone new. Might take me a while to find someone good, unfortunately.

I wouldn't pay OP and I think yadnbu. I wouldn't ask them to fix it if this was the first time I'd used them, they might make it worse.

Tough shit to them if they are out of pocket, they should of done a good job

MeatyTuck · 01/11/2021 19:56

I wouldn't pay for that and I wouldn't go back i to let them attempt to fix it either, especially given that it would be done by the same person who created that mess in the first place.

Tittyfilarious81 · 01/11/2021 19:56

@Charlene1971 don't let them try to fix it I had a horrendous dye job done on my hair and said I wasn't happy when they started drying it as I spotted it they absolutely ruined my hair trying to fix it left it even more patchy and worse than the first fuck up ,then they ran out of time and could not finish my blowdry ,this was apparently my fault because my hair was thick and I didn't tell the stylist when I booked . Pay for the cut but not the coloring .

yourestandingonmyneck · 01/11/2021 19:57

I agree with you OP, I would be loathe to pay for that.

In practice though, I also agree it's difficult. I also wouldn't trust them to do my hair again, but I also would be reluctant to get into any sort of disagreement with them as you say they seem a bit rough.

I would maybe just broach it with them and see what they say.

"Hi, I'm here to drop off the cash from yesterday. I'm happy with the cut, but I'm really not happy with the colour. Look. What do you think?"

See what they say. They don't sound professional so they maybe don't have the ability to fix it and don't want to try, so they might just charge you for the cut.

If they seem like they are going to start something I would just pay and chalk it up to experience.

Going by some of the hairdressers I have had the misfortune to meet over the years I’m guessing they have an over inflated opinion of themselves and mistakenly believe that they are the best of the best. The are overly confident, don’t listen, they do what the hell they like and are not half as ‘talented’ as they believe themselves to be.

Thankfully there are some amazing hairdressers out there. My DD goes to a brilliant colourist and I have a great hairdresser. They are both unassuming people who really know their stuff.

The rogue traders in the industry give good hairdressers a bad name.

TrollsAreSaddos · 01/11/2021 20:02

I think you’ve done the right thing OP. Do you know what qualifications the hairdresser has?

SunShinesBrightly · 01/11/2021 20:02

I’m talking generally btw, I obviously don’t know the people at the salon you went to OP!

This is the other worrying thing. You don’t know who you are getting when you go somewhere new.

There really is!

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 01/11/2021 20:12

So many people saying OP should pay, are you serious? Why should she pay for that mess! I wouldn't even let them near it again.

Smashingspinster · 01/11/2021 20:18

There is an established protocol for this - you give them a chance to fix it, and if you are still unhappy then discuss payment. From your comments I get why you don't want to sit there and give them another chance as some hairdressers are not good about this. But most hairdressers will also have the experience of dye going wrong at some point and be able to fix it. If you are absolutely ruling that out, which it sounds like you are, then you need to pay and write it off as a bad job.

SeenYourArse · 01/11/2021 20:32

You need to pay and ask for them to fix it when you’re paying, simply not paying is theft of services.

Livelovebehappy · 01/11/2021 20:34

You don’t need to confront them face to face if you’re worried. Just call them and explain over the phone that when you got home, and looked at it properly, that the colour is patchy. Send them the picture you’ve shown us. The camera doesn’t lie. Don’t say anything at that point about payment, and see what they suggest. .

Livelovebehappy · 01/11/2021 20:38

How will that work? Op pays then complains? At that point, once she has paid, it’s like accepting the service provided and they don’t have to do anything. Unless they’re nice people, which doesn’t sound the case here.
TheVolturi · 01/11/2021 20:43

What does leave the money in, and haven't left the money yet mean?

musicviking1 · 01/11/2021 20:57

I've had some dodgy colour done in my time and each time I've pointed it out, sometimes they have tried to fob me off and tell me it's the lighting in the salon etc but I've been having my hair coloured for long enough to know when it's be done badly. I've either gone back to have it corrected or I have not had to pay for the colour. It's always been annoying when it's happened because it means I have to find time to have it corrected and of course the the toll it takes on the hair.

Andwander · 01/11/2021 21:38

The card machine broken...Hmm.sounds more they want cash in hand.this hairdresser appears unprofessional on every level.I would pay,but state you are not at all happy with the dye.See how they reply. If their response makes you feel comfortable to have the damage "repaired",go for it.If their response is unpleasant, I would cut my losses, leave a very feedback on their website and spoil yourself with a very good professional haircut/dye next time.

Lamont77 · 01/11/2021 21:38

I agree with you OP. I wouldn't pay for that and if he couldn't do it right the first time, I wouldn't risk him messing it up even more.

Also, your money is as important as theirs and you'll be the one out of pocket if you have to pay for a bad job that needs fixed at more expense.

I don't understand the logic that they mess up your hair, you pay for it, let them mess it up more, leave and pay again to get it fixed. I appreciate that they need the money, especially with furlough etc - but they don't know your situation either and your money is as important as theirs.

Floppy234 · 01/11/2021 22:28

I have bleach full head highlights have for many many years. I went to anew salon and the state of my hair, huge patch at back totally not coloured, bleeding, patches it was really terrible .
I let them re do!!! Big mistake they made it even worse! At they didn't correct anything just did another full head of highlights. They never left the bleach on long enough either time so it looked like a home job gone wrong.
I emailed all the pictures to the salon manager and they never even replied! I had paid in cash so I couldn't do chargeback!

Lockdown was hilarious as they kept telling people not to dye hair at home themselves! I wanted to say no do it yourself you will do a better job than these lot!

I wouldn't pay you Havnt got what you paid for. Pay got the trim and say your going to pay to get fixed elsewhere as your trust is gone.

BoredZelda · 01/11/2021 23:38

I have alopecia which is slowly turning me bald. I’d kill for a bad dye job on a full head of hair. There are worse things to worry about. Honestly, from the pictures, I can barely see a problem.
