Would you pay?

I'm so sorry, I'm putting this up again because I'm hoping to get more opinions.

Went to the hairdressers and got a trim and dye. Was asked to leave the cash in the next day, as the card machine was broken. Came home and looked at my hair and it's so patchy! I haven't left the money in yet, but im tempted to just pay for the trim and not the dye. I don't want to ask them to do it again, as I don't trust them and I would feel really uncomfortable sitting there whilst they done it, as I'm quite an anxious person.

AIBU to just pay for the trim?

Would you pay?

@Explosivefarts

You need to give them a chance to rectify you can’t just not pay
Why? Why would you give someone who has already messed up the chance to mess up some more?
LittleDandelionClock · 01/11/2021 17:25

Just suck it up and don't ever go again! Especially if they are the type to not be messed with. Confused

FFS don't go there again @Charlene1971

Unsure33 · 01/11/2021 17:30

Legally you should give them a chance to put it right or technically they could come after you for the money .

NewbieAlert · 01/11/2021 17:31

If the card machine had been working would you have paid?
I think that’s your answer.

WitchDancer · 01/11/2021 17:31

I would phone ASAP today to bring it to their attention you aren't happy with what they've done so they can't say it's just an excuse to get out of paying. What you do next is depending on what they say.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 01/11/2021 17:36

I’m amazed at the replies. No offence but your hair looks laughably awful - of COURSE you shouldnt pay! I agree with you, I would not want to sit there awkwardly whilst they fix it, nor would I trust them to if this is how they let me leave the salon. Forget it. Pay for the trim, show them your hair and ask if they actually think it’s reasonable that you pay. As a PP said, the most I would offer is 1/3 and that’s it. If they get shitty give a bad review.

It’s a bit like how I would not pay for inedible food at a restaurant.

bpirockin · 01/11/2021 17:36

Awkward, and I understand you not wanting to pay for such a poor job, but agree - as long as you explain to them why you are only paying for the trim. At that point I'd say that I'd lost all confidence in them and couldn't face them trying to rectify it. Sometimes all you can do is learn from it and not go back.

I guess my question to you would be if you had already paid, then got home and took a closer look at the colour, what would you have done? Personally, a lot would depend on the salon reputation and price, I think. I'd want to save others from such an encounter, and draw their attention to the general lack of professionalism, The owner/Manager might not have been there, and unaware. Is there anywhere you can leave feedback/evidence of the job done, so they at least concede to it being unsatisfactory?

Fetarabbit · 01/11/2021 17:37

Of course you can refuse to pay. You just need to accept that refusal comes with consequences up to and including legal action

It's ridiculously unlikely that they will go through the financial and effort commitment to pursue legal action.

That said, I wouldn't just not pay, talk to the manager. They'll probably offer to fix it as a first port of call, if there's more than one stylist I'd opt for that as long as it wasn't the same person doing it.

Platax · 01/11/2021 17:37

Nope. They didn't provide the service they contracted to provide. OP has no legal obligation to waste her time whilst they potentially mess it up again.
Charlene1971 · 01/11/2021 17:38

I've written to them and explained the situation and sent them the photo, as I'm not confident enough to complain in person.

They wrote back and said to come in and let them have a look. I told them I don't want to get it done again because I'm not keen on having MORE dye put on my hair (I didn't mention that I don't trust them to do a better job next time!), and I told them I'm happy to pay them for the trim.

They've seen my message, but there's been no response.

I'm not giving them the opportunity to mess it up even more. I'm sorry if people think that's "shitty". But there's no guarantee that they'll do a better job, it could be even worse next time, why risk it?

Sorry, I should have mentioned. The guy who done it was the only colourist there, it's a small salon. He would definitely be doing the fix.

In answer to the thread title, no I wouldn't.

notacooldad · 01/11/2021 17:46

So you think I should pay them out of fear?🤔
Well it was you who said you are an anxious person. Wouldn't it put your anxiety levels up thinking what they could do it you?
My view is similar to others. Give them.a chance to pit it right. It diesnt have to confrontational. Just show them and say can you sort this bit out, it's a bit patchy ( or something similar.)

notacooldad · 01/11/2021 17:47

I e crossed post with ans have just seen that you've sentan email
I hope you get a good outcome.

Lily78123 · 01/11/2021 17:48

I wouldn’t pay, It’s awful quality, I wouldn’t want them to touch my hair again. I would also refuse to pay for an inedible meal at a restaurant.

Fetarabbit · 01/11/2021 17:49

Cripes in that case I would also refuse to pay, but I would let them know why and show them.

amsadandconfused · 01/11/2021 17:49

@HikingforScenery

You need to give them a chance to rectify it . You can’t just refuse to pay
This
Charlene1971 · 01/11/2021 17:51

@Fetarabbit

I did, I sent them the photo and told them I'll pay them for the trim.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 01/11/2021 17:59

Op if your not happy just say so tell them it’s patchy . A decent hairdressers will rectify this they won’t just say ok don’t pay they will want to sort this . You can say your not happy they do this but tbh if you go elsewhere that means more money so I’d allow them to rectify it first .

Sorrynotsorry2 · 01/11/2021 18:00

Did you ask for an all over colour ?

I cant understand why it's so patchy?

TractorAndHeadphones · 01/11/2021 18:00

Wait for them to reply?

OakPine · 01/11/2021 18:03

But they haven't said "Come in and we will fix it!"
They've said "Come in for us to look at it"
That sounds like they will try to persuade you that it's ok.

I'd be paying for the trim. If that's their best effort from their "colourist" then no way would they be getting a second chance.

Their "colourist" sent you home looking like that.

What a bloody cheek!

savvy7 · 01/11/2021 18:04

So you should go in, speak to salon owner and say you are not happy with the colour and are not happy to pay. Also that you will now have to pay someone else to.sort it out as you don't trust them to do it. Plus your hair will be damaged due to the repeat colour and may need a course.of intensive treatments.

Once you set out the cost of having to rectify the above, I think they will accept that no payment is due.

Gonnagetgoing · 01/11/2021 18:11

You should let them put it right.

To those saying you should pay. After first lockdown I booked into salon who changed the stylist on the day without telling me, I asked for full head of blonde highlights and stylist put on full blonde bleach and I only realised after he put it on and was too late to take it off. I had showed him a photo of what I wanted (had it before) and he ignored me. Seeing as I had to pay to put it right, I didn’t trust him to do it or another stylist there and they’re a chain so I didn’t pay. I’ve still got damaged hair from that time.

Lairymary · 01/11/2021 18:12

If the card machine had been working, would you have gone back once you realised you weren't happy with it?
