I'm so sorry, I'm putting this up again because I'm hoping to get more opinions.

Went to the hairdressers and got a trim and dye. Was asked to leave the cash in the next day, as the card machine was broken. Came home and looked at my hair and it's so patchy! I haven't left the money in yet, but im tempted to just pay for the trim and not the dye. I don't want to ask them to do it again, as I don't trust them and I would feel really uncomfortable sitting there whilst they done it, as I'm quite an anxious person.

AIBU to just pay for the trim?

Would you pay?

I didn’t notice until I got home and brushed my hair (it’s wavy)

I would not have paid if I had noticed

The hairdresser should have noticed. The op's hairdresser could not have missed that botch job they just choose to ignore it

Charlene1971 · 01/11/2021 19:37

@OhWhyNot

So what if the op doesn’t want to go in there I don’t blame her they have already shown that they will discuss anything in front of customers without boundaries

She hasn’t done anything wrong. I was made to feel uncomfortable for complaining about my hair cut I wish I hadn’t given them they chance to correct it but I stupidly did (would never again)

If they were professional they would have noticed the mistake they had made and would have apologised there and then and offered to correct it they were just hoping the op wouldn’t notice or wouldn’t complain

When the man was blow drying it he would have been paying close attention, and been able to see it a lot clearer than I could, yet he still allowed me to leave with patchy hair.

Yet, I'm the bitch for not wanting to pay him for not correcting his mistake, and thinking I wouldn't notice!!

Unprofessional and lazy ….

I'm the bitch

If anyone's said that I've evidently missed it.

Charlene1971 · 01/11/2021 19:39
@FreeBritnee
It doesn’t work like that I’m afraid. You have to allow them to rectify the mistake. You can’t just decide not to pay them

Exactly. It's just basic consumer/service etiquette. The only situation I perhaps wouldn't pay for service received is if i had evidence they were taking the piss - IE purposely doing a substandard job to save themselves time/money. If however they honestly tried to provide a service and it was below average - well that's why we have free market competition and competitors + multiple avenues of reviews/ consumer feedback.
@Cam77 he purposely allowed me to leave knowing it was patchy, so yes, he essentially did do a substandard job, and saved himself time and more money on materials by not fixing it. He was more than happy to allow me to walk out of that salon looking like that, and he didn't care because he clearly thought I wouldn't notice.

It's been implied, not said. Sorry

Probably have someone come on to tel you he might have been having a bad day, is colour blind, doesn’t get paid much or some other nonsense to back up their argument that you are being horrid 😆

Agreed. The more I write on the thread the more certain I am that I'm in the right to be honest, so I'm glad I wrote it.

Well you don't want to give him the opportunity to correct his mistake. You're taking the opportunity not to pay because they didn't take payment at the point of sale

Receptionclass · 01/11/2021 19:41

Go back and show them the colour. Looks like one of the botch DIY jobs my teen self used to do! No you shouldn't pay.

Oh god!! I really hope not, but I am prepared for that to happen because some people love to dig to the bottom of the barrel!! 😫😫

I'm sorry about your experience btw, that really sucks! 😔❤

I once forced myself to go back to a hairdressers after getting home and noticing that the dye job was horrific. There have been a few times that it hasn't been the colour that I wanted at all but I'm a wimp so I just say thanks usually and hate my hair afterwards. But this time it was so, so patchy. So I went back in, almost apologetically, and asked them to fix it. It was so awkward. They sound a bit like the place you went to. I was counting the minutes until I could get out of there because they couldn't have made it more obvious how annoyed they were. I think I would have just accepted whatever they had done to my hair the second time round just to make the awkwardness stop 😂

Because I don't trust him, at all! Who is to say that wouldn't make it look even worse? He couldn't do it properly the first time, after all...

Don’t apologise OP

ilovesooty · 01/11/2021 19:44

If you're so sure you're in the right I don't see why you aren't going in to show them why you're dissatisfied.

Anyway this is a waste of time as you're obviously not going to do that.

For me the question is - when you asked for a dye what did you mean. I mean did you ask for a lighter colour dye over dark hair - are you dyeing greys? I think its important to work out why its patchy.

My being certain that I'm right in the matter doesn't magically give me the confidence to walk in and give them what for, obviously 🙄

You can't just not pay them. When you go back in you need to tell them that you're unhappy and give them the chance to rectify it.
They still gave you a service, which cost them money so you still need to pay.

ilovesooty · 01/11/2021 19:47

I don't know why people are so scared of hairdressers really. Mind you I've been going to the same one for years and would tell her straight up if she produced something I wasn't happy with.

I just asked them to dye it copper, and my hair was dark. I would have completely understood if it didn't come out the exact shade I wanted, but not why it's patchy.

@Charlene1971
Well in that case fair enough if you believe it was purposely negligent. Though it would have been better if you'd challenged on the spot, as now it may look like you accepted the standard of service at the time but are now withholding payment, so you might face a stern challenge.

SunShinesBrightly · 01/11/2021 19:49

I would take a deep breath, go back and tell them that the dye is a mess. If they can’t see it when you are standing in front of them show them the pictures.
Tell them that you are happy to pay for the cut but not the dye.
Tell them that you are not prepared to have more dye put on your hair at their salon.

Ask them how they would like to proceed.

If they argue aggressively, ask for full payment or an unreasonable amount, insist you have further hair dye or threaten you with ... I don’t know who - the police?
you have a few options:

Pay up and tell them that you will be writing a number of reviews and posting photos to back up your claims.

Refuse to pay and tell them to refer the matter to the small claims court.
