Does anyone iron anymore?

Not really an AIBU but posting for traffic. I hate ironing but so it anyway.

Does anyone iron clothes anymore or is it just me?
More and more often I'm hearing and reading about people aghast at the thought of ironing and that they never do any.

If you don't iron, how to you keep your clothes crease free, e g. cotton shirts and blouses?

I used to never iron anything. I mostly got away with it. But after reading loads of style and beauty threads on here about how to look well put together, I’ve realised that intoning things does actually make a difference. But I’ll only iron things if I want to wear something smart or fancy. I’d never waste my time ironing bedding or anything like that.

AutumnLeafy · 17/10/2021 16:03

I iron shirts and blouses sorry. They look terrible creased up.

antsinyourpanta · 17/10/2021 16:03

no help here, but ive become more lazy discerning about what needs ironing. i generally iron school shirts/trousers/skirts and bedding (and hopefully as little else as possible) on sunday evenings while watching tv.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 17/10/2021 16:04

Yep, I iron t-shirts, blouses, trousers, dresses - anything that needs ironing gets ironed!

Toottooot · 17/10/2021 16:04

Never but don’t wear shirts or blouses.

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 17/10/2021 16:05

I iron. Mainly shirts. I look like a sack of shit if i dont!

WorraLiberty · 17/10/2021 16:05

It's a bit of a 'thing' on Mumsnet to over excitedly declare you've thrown your iron away in gay abandonment.

But my experience in real life is that most people own an iron, they just don't need to use them much anymore.

Materials used nowadays, washing machines and detergent etc tends to mean we don't need to as much.

Just about the only things I ever iron now are 3 blouses I wear to work, and even then I sometimes avoid those and choose other tops.

luckylavender · 17/10/2021 16:07

I iron. Can't imagine how not to.

Biscoffee · 17/10/2021 16:07

Everything here is ironed and anyone who thinks no one else can tell they’re clothes haven’t been ironed is kidding themselves on.

iwishiwasonhol · 17/10/2021 16:07

very rarely iron ,apart from linen trousers and dresses in the summer ,i take everything out the machine pretty much as soon as it done and give it a shake and then hang up , put on line or clothes horse ,also try to buy thing that are unlikely to need ironing

SylvanasWindrunner · 17/10/2021 16:08

Nope. We do have an iron but only used for weddings, funerals and bat mitzvahs Grin

Whataday21 · 17/10/2021 16:08

I only iron work clothes.

mbosnz · 17/10/2021 16:09

I iron a shitload. Including teatowels, and cotton boxers. I blame my mother.

Maskedstranger · 17/10/2021 16:10

No. its an instrument of oppression!

WorraLiberty · 17/10/2021 16:10

I just can't imagine me ever ironing things like tea towels and underwear.

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 17/10/2021 16:10

I do my son’s school uniforms as they look very crumpled without being ironed. Dh does his work shirts. That’s it, I don’t iron anything else.

Batshittery · 17/10/2021 16:11

Same here
GrimDamnFanjo · 17/10/2021 16:12

Rarely. I have an emergency iron.
I do have a small hand held steamer though which is fab for quick jobs.

Xanadu58 · 17/10/2021 16:12

Yes , I iron .

jupitermars1345 · 17/10/2021 16:13

I don't iron

I don't care if people know I haven't 🤣
Yes my stuff is often creased

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 17/10/2021 16:13

I iron my kids clothes and I will iron my things if they look really crushed.

HundredMilesAnHour · 17/10/2021 16:13

I use a handheld steamer instead. I've only used an iron a few times in the last decade (usually when staying in a hotel on business and need to iron work clothes).

Its quite the opposite for me, I barely know anyone who irons. I havent had an iron or ironing board in about 10 years, and even then it just gathered dust.

I hate ironing, I have a hand held Steamer if there is anything that needs a de crease, which is rare, I maybe only use that a few times a year.

With so much anti crease fabric, steam modes on washing machines and just making sure things are taken out immediately and hung to dry its not often I have creased clothes.

User00000000 · 17/10/2021 16:13

I have an iron but it rarely comes out of the cupboard. All of us wear work/school uniform that doesn't need ironing.

Think the last thing I did was shirts when we went to a funeral.

Idontlike · 17/10/2021 16:14

Everything ironed here -mostly by DH I’m happy to say Grin
I hate ironing,
