Pink Floyd are rubbish

I wfh and usually have the radio on. DH has left Absolute Classic Rock on from when he was washing the dishes last night. It has been enjoyable and listened to some good tunes (obviously I am old - well 41).

Heard 2 Pink Floyd songs and my god they are awful. Long, pretentious and boing! Listened to a few on Apple Music and wanted to kill myself - a funeral dirge would be more jolly.

I know they have lots of fans so please tell me IANBU

What?!!! I'm slightly less old than you (40) and I love Pink Floyd, I find their music quite hypnotic and dreamlike, I get lost in it!

Also why should music be jolly? They're not trying to be Tommy Steele. It takes all sorts...

I don't think you can listen to the songs in isolation. Have a listen to 'dark side of the moon' in its entirety and come back!

Totally agree. I listen to all kinds of music but have to change the station when they come on.

Not a Pink Floyd fan as such and wouldn't listen to a whole album, but enjoy an occasional song on the radio. Always turn up Another Brick on the Wall.

My H and my brother both had Shine on you Crazy Diamond played at their funerals. I love Pink Floyd.

Dark side of the moon is a classic album!
I am a fan of theirs but I can see why others don't like them much : they were of a time I guess and not easy listening at all.

YABU. Music is subjective. To you they might be crap, but then again your taste to others is probably bad too!

@Pinkdelight3 a good point - I don't like anything melancholy- I found it very easy to slip into depression (medically diagnosed before anyone tells me off).

DH asked me what my favourite sad song was and he was aghast at everything I said as they weren't remotely sad to him

I am 54 though.

PF are amazing when you are in a PF mood. I feel a bit old for them now.

Some people like PF; some don't. Some recognise that they have talent, even if not a fan.

One of my fave bands. The contribution they made to music was incredible. Soaring instrumentals and experimental arrangements. Lyrics that explored social commentary - war, violence, capitalism, etc…

Absence being a recurring theme in their work - I can see how you might say it’s depressing. But listen closely to the lyrics and it’s message still resonates today.

My username may give you a clue...

The Wall is one of the greatest albums ever made.

There are lots of musicians and bands I don't enjoy but none elicit the reaction I have to Pink Floyd
