AIBU to not want child to travel in boot

Arranging to go for lunch/ dinner tomorrow, DH wants youngest DC to travel in the boot so we only need one car. Other option would be he, or another guest, drives a second car but would mean they cannot drink. We are going to country pub on B roads, approximately 15 - 20 minute drive. AIBU to be annoyed?

For further info, we both worked all through pandemic, booked 2 weeks annual leave and I caught covid at start, it's been pretty miserable & this would be first 'nice' social outing since and before we return to work next week bit I still don't think it's worth compromising safety.

You can't be serious?! 😱

Kithic · 28/08/2021 20:02

Taxi?

FionnulaTheCooler · 28/08/2021 20:03
Hmm
AndTheReasonIsYou · 28/08/2021 20:03

Um…

RubyFowler · 28/08/2021 20:04

Do you actually mean in the boot?? Not in a seat at the very back of a 6 seater?

SheWoreYellow · 28/08/2021 20:04

In the actual boot, or is there a third row of seats?

WhatsAppening · 28/08/2021 20:04

Erm it’s not 1986 anymore so no.

sittingonacornflake · 28/08/2021 20:04

That is absolutely fucking batshit.

MalteserGeezee · 28/08/2021 20:04

Do you mean literally rolling around untethered in the boot? Or in one of those uncomfortable"jump seats" you get in 7-seater SUVs? How old is DC? I was regularly transported in boots, work vans with tools flying about and other generally unsafe vehicles with half a dozen other kids when young, but that was the 80s! I wouldn't do it now!

AnyFucker · 28/08/2021 20:04

What ?

negomi90 · 28/08/2021 20:04

Going in the boot would be dangerous. Its also incredibly illegal. You get caught, it will be dangerous driving and neglect. Social services are also rightly likely to be interested.
Unless they are proper seats with seatbelts which pop up from the boot. In which case it isn't a proper boot.

Dillydollydingdong · 28/08/2021 20:05

You can't do that! You could be arrested. I don't know what the penalty would be but check it out!

Chikapu · 28/08/2021 20:05

Isn't it illegal to have someone in the boot? Even if it's not it's extremely dangerous.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 28/08/2021 20:05

As in actually in the boot 80s style??
Or in the very back seats of a 7 seater?
If the first obviously YNBU. 2 cars or a taxi. Is it really that big a deal to have a drink at lunch instead of keeping your child safe?

user1493494961 · 28/08/2021 20:07

A relative has a 7 seater, which includes two extra seats in the boot area. If this is what you mean then it's suitable if the child is age-appropriate.

Neighneigh · 28/08/2021 20:08

Your DH can get himself a fucking taxi if he puts having a drink over his kid in the actual boot. A taxi that takes him far far away. Far. Far away.

MrsScrubbithatescleaning · 28/08/2021 20:08

If you mean in the actual boot and not in a proper seat with a seatbelt, that’s totally illegal and completely stupid.

Just get a minibus taxi.

Cheeeeislifenow · 28/08/2021 20:08

I have a seven seater, we call it the boot!! But once car seats are in it's safe. I'm fairly certain you don't mean the actual boot with no seat?
If it's a seven seater boot yabu.

SpringSparrow · 28/08/2021 20:08

No way would I be putting my child in a boot just so a man can drink! If he wants to drink so badly why not arrange a taxi there and back. Don’t compromise your child’s safety. It’s possible to have an accident on a B road close to home. I did myself.

dancemom · 28/08/2021 20:09

Do people actually still do this??

OP how old is the child?

Debetswell · 28/08/2021 20:09

Good god. I put my dog in the boot using a clip to restrain her and I still worry about someone going into the back of us.
I can't imagine putting a dc in the boot.
It's dangerous and illegal!

QueenHofScotland · 28/08/2021 20:09

I assume when you say “boot” you mean you have a 7 seater car that used the boot space for seat 6 and 7? If so YBU

If you mean the actual boot…let us know your registration and post code and we will let 999 know when you are leaving

LakeShoreD · 28/08/2021 20:10

Not in the boot boot? Surely you’re being precious because the poor darling doesn’t like to sit in the extra seats of the 7 seater? I can’t honestly believe anyone in this day age would actually suggest throwing a kid in the boot like a suitcase. It’s not 1975.

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 28/08/2021 20:10

Obvious joke is obvious 🙄 No one is that stupid, seriously?

Sally872 · 28/08/2021 20:10

You must mean back row surely? If so yabu. What's the point in a 7 seater if you don't use them.

If he means the actual boot I could not trust his judgement ever again.
