AIBU to not want child to travel in boot

Arranging to go for lunch/ dinner tomorrow, DH wants youngest DC to travel in the boot so we only need one car. Other option would be he, or another guest, drives a second car but would mean they cannot drink. We are going to country pub on B roads, approximately 15 - 20 minute drive. AIBU to be annoyed?

For further info, we both worked all through pandemic, booked 2 weeks annual leave and I caught covid at start, it's been pretty miserable & this would be first 'nice' social outing since and before we return to work next week bit I still don't think it's worth compromising safety.

@rc22

Some of my happiest childhood memories are of occasions where my dad had to put the seats down to fit lots in the car and my brother and I travelled in the boot. However that was in the 1980s and things have changed considerably since then and your child needs to travel in a seat with a seat belt!!
Me too I used to love sitting in the boot facing the cars behind. But times have changed and it's not safe now of course.
toomuchlaundry · 29/08/2021 18:00

@NeverForgetYourDreams don't think it was particularly safe then!

Lostmarbles2021 · 29/08/2021 18:49

My DH once suggested I climb into the back seat, take out baby out of the seat and breast feed (he was crying) ... on the motorway!!!

I feel your pain OP.

Omg, just when I thought I had read everything on mens selfish behaviour, this posts pops up! Your DH is totally deluded. Why don't you suggest he gets in the boot & DS can take the seat, or even better, drive?? Ffs, I think my life is bad but I'm glad I'm not married to this moron. 😆🤦🏼‍♀️

Aside from the well discussed safety issues and illegality I think this also invalidates your insurance. Same for the PP squeezing an extra child in the back seat.

Rainbowsew · 30/08/2021 14:47

It's not 1984 anymore!

There are seat belt laws for a reason.

@OnTheBoardwalk

Boot is the crumple zone of the car isn’t it? No way should a child be in there

I remember being in the back of a van in the 70's being thrown around at every sharp turn. In the 70/80's thankfully this stopped

Yet thousands of people happily out their dogs there! 🤷🏼‍♀️
