To think Joe Biden is an even worse president than Trump?

I realise Trump was appalling in many ways so this isn't a pro-Trump post really, and I know he was the one who put things in motion for the withdrawal from Afghanistan. But to pull out in such a sudden and shambolic way will without doubt be the direct cause of many deaths and other atrocities in Afghanistan, including the deaths of those who helped the US and other forces. I think it's utterly unforgivable. Can't think of anything Trump did with quite such immediate and devastating consequences. AIBU?

I don't know he he sleeps at night. Never rated him and now I loathe him

Westchesterarms · 16/08/2021 14:05

Obama was withdrawing troops before Trump.

Iusedtobesoooomuchfun · 16/08/2021 14:05

He's senile. He's definitely got some sort of dementia. The whole things is awful.

Warmduscher · 16/08/2021 14:07

70% of the American public agreed with withdrawing troops.

MrsWhites · 16/08/2021 14:08

He’s a terrible president, clearly not mentally fit enough for the job and is making monumentally terrible decisions.

How he can sleep at night after seeing those people on the news this morning falling from the sky after trying to jump onto a taxiing military plane is beyond me.

He talks the talk about female rights by championing his wife’s career and having a female Vice President but he had condemned millions of woman in Afghanistan to a horrific life now.

MopaniTree · 16/08/2021 14:09

I read so much criticism of Trump but when it comes down to it, what did he actually do that was materially so awful?

I think Biden comes across as more "Presidential" but in fact his actions in the short time since coming into office have had an awful impact on women's rights and now on Afghanistan.

MoiraRose4 · 16/08/2021 14:09

But what’s the alternative? How many years have troops been present and look how quickly it has crumbled. Do they stay there forever?

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 16/08/2021 14:10

I don't know about worse, but he's certainly not great. Signed a law in his first few days of office allowing boys to compete in girls sports. Apparently there are now more immigrant children at the US border than ever before.

Yes Obama and Trump wanted out of Afghanistan, but they didn't just pull the rug out and run for cover. There should have been some sort of transition period an ongoing support.

I think for many voters, they knew he wasn't great but at least he wasn't Trump. He should have just called himself 'Not Trump'.

He supposedly a puppet anyway, Kamala Harris is running the show. Which is hilarious because she tried to run for presidential candidate and the democrats didn't want her.

MrsWhites · 16/08/2021 14:10

@Westchesterarms

Obama was withdrawing troops before Trump.
Withdrawing the troops had to happen at some point but in such a way that it didn’t make the last 20 years of occupation absolutely pointless surely. How many soldiers have needlessly died to just allow the Taliban to return to power.
Artdecolover · 16/08/2021 14:11

Trump started the withdrawal

Biden simply went along with it though was against Obama sending more troops on 2009

They should both be damned for it

CorrBlimeyGG · 16/08/2021 14:11

There needs to be an inquiry into both the US and the UK's part in this, and how both governments missed how devastatingly things would unravel.

And where the hell is Dominic Raab?

MangoFeverDream · 16/08/2021 14:12

Trump had many bad qualities but making a fucking decision and sticking with it was not one of them.

The White House is AWOL. Extremely embarrassing for them. At the very least some generals should fall on their swords.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 16/08/2021 14:12

No, Trump was utterly batshit and dangerous to both his own citizens and people outside the US. But that doesn't mean the events in Afghanistan aren't awful.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 16/08/2021 14:12

It’s a complete, unmanaged, shitshow. And that’s being nice about it.

He’s a Terrible president.

Ok, how is Biden better? He’s really not. If I were in Taiwan right now, I’d be scared shitless for sure

gardeninggirl68 · 16/08/2021 14:14

as an ex military wife myself i belong to some wives forums, many are just relieved to have their partners home out of harms way. bittersweet

but it feels like forces lives lost for nothing

Terryscombover · 16/08/2021 14:15

I don't think it's as easy as just blaming Biden. Whilst I agree he's no where near a great President, the issues surfacing now go back to Obama and it was Trump himself that agreed to release the Taliban prisoners (now leaders) and called them "a force for good against terrorism" and it allowed them to bribe their way into power. This alone should have prevented the withdrawal but Biden and Johnson went ahead.

Sadly if the Western world wants to protect the women and minorities of Afghanistan we will have to have perpetual forces out there.

They are all to blame.

Iusedtobesoooomuchfun · 16/08/2021 14:18

The man needs to be put in a home or at least have careers. How he's the leader of the free world I'll never know. And that fucking Harris too. I THINK Biden has been set up. Harris is trying to worm her way to being president by using a senile man to get there.

I agree, but of course it's anathema to suggest anything of the kind.

Washington wouldn't do something deeply unpopular if it was unpopular & the decision is not just Bidens.

Once the US said they were pulling out there is very little that the UK could have done to change what has happened - we just don't have the money or resources to handle this kind of thing on my own.

Don't get me wrong, I think the UK Government should have been jumping up and down and shouting to the whole world that the rapid withdrawal was a catastrophe waiting to happen and it's appalling that they have not been more vocal, but on a practical level there is very little that the UK can do alone.

My husband and BIL are both ex-forces, DH served a tour in 2014 and BIL in 2009 where he sadly witnessed the deaths of two of his colleagues. They are both incredibly angry about how this epic cock-up has happened.

Panickingpavlova · 16/08/2021 14:24

Any American president would have withdrawn from Afghanistan.
Republican and democrat.

What is soley Bidens responsibility is the massive miscalculated way this has been done.

Putting many lives at risk where a worse case scenario planning could have forseen this and put measures in place. It didn't have to be this way and it's hideous and that's on Biden and his administration.

DrManhattan · 16/08/2021 14:25

I'm still surprised he was the best option. He looks on his last legs
