To splash out on pyjamas so expensive and louche they would make Bertie Worcester wince?

My historic pyjama choices have very much erred on the sensible side. Think and M and S two pack, polkadot and tartan (I draw the line at Disney characters, but only just).

Anyway, my business has had a hard but miraculously good year, considering. And I'm 43, so my mum can't tell me what to do anymore (well, she can and she does, but I'll not seek her frugal advice). And we finally have a grown up house, with older children, so no more sofas to buy or boobs to leek.

Surely in these circumstances, I can justify spending £125 on a pair of Toast pyjamas? Beautiful floral Indian cotton. Loose, light, probably smell of myrrh. I am reasonably confident they will make me feel like, at least, a dowager Duchess, and at best The Pursuit of Love's Linda in her very prime. I'm a hardworking woman with almost no other vices (almost...)

I spend a good deal of my life pyjama'd up. Surely this is a better use of the cash than a million other things I could use it for?

My finger has been hovering over the 'order' button all afternoon. Please someone, tell me I can.

Def Recommend Dempsey and Desmond. Expensive but fab quality, customer service is outstanding also

Redkey · 06/07/2021 17:49

[quote Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat]I know Toast is a bit marmite on MN, but I love a lot of their stuff. All of my Toast pieces still look as good as new - the quality is fabulous, in my experience. They also repair garments for free.

I've bought from them for 15 years - only good things to report.

They are made in India, I wonder how much the Indian workers get out of that? I would want to know how much Toast pay their workers first

They repair items for free - are you sure? I can't see anything in your link.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 06/07/2021 17:50

But, but - cotton ? What about silk?

(By the way, don't bother with velvet anything if you have a cat. You'll look like your robe is knitted from the pelts of domestic tabbies within 30 seconds).

TomNooksbuddy · 06/07/2021 17:54

Another vote for Dempsey and Desmond. They make you feel like a grown up.

I started with one pair and now have four.

Nanasueathome · 06/07/2021 18:09

@SpiderinaWingMirror

@Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed

Anyone else know Bonsoir, not cheap but worth every penny. Got 2 nightgowns over 7yrs ago. Still going strong 2 kids, bf later. And every year I treat myself to a pj set. Still evening up the silk robes and PJ's when a pay rise happens. ❤️
My bloke loves Bonsoir nightshirts, he’s just got a new one for his birthday. He’s still wearing one he had before we met, so at least 24 years ago.
LowlandLucky · 06/07/2021 18:12

Buy them x

I've done several of their workshops - they're fab.

Fluffyowl00 · 06/07/2021 18:54

I bought the matching dressing gown. It’s at least twice the price of any dressing gown I’ve ever bought but I can confirm that even at 8 months pregnant every time I waddle glide about it I do feel like royalty. Go for it!

TangMustang · 06/07/2021 18:58

@Beendownthisroadmorethantwice

See the problem with going down this route is that then your bedding will seem drab and boring in compassion.

Next thing you know you’re in a gold plated double king bed with sheets made of 1million thread count Egyptian cotton and pillows made of raw silk.

Gateway pajamas Grin Grin
Labradabradorable · 06/07/2021 19:01

Okay, so I have ordered the gateway pyjamas. I expect them to be magnificent. I haven't yet gone the full Noel Coward, but give it time and the velvet (well, maybe cashmere) robe shall also be mine.

I might finish off with a crevatte.

Labradabradorable · 06/07/2021 19:02

cravatte

It's only a crevatte when worn by prawns....

Oh very nice OP, they are beautiful and a complete bargain compared to the £400 Liberty ones my 19year old DS has just treated himself to. Shock
Don't think I've ever had beautiful PJ'S.

I love a bit of sashiko! Have decided to mend my old Toast Dressing gown - by lining it and using sashiko to mend the holes (I think caused by an unruly family of moths who refused to move out when we moved in many years ago! Wish I known about the repair service before though - I bought one of their lovely linen aprons - wore it so much it has developed a hole and I'm attempting to mend it - no doubt they'd have done a much better job!
Confrontayshunme · 07/07/2021 07:14

My DH bought me a £60 set from Cath Kidston and they wash so well and feel so nice, I am ashamed we spent so much on holey low quality ones I had to replace every 6 months or so.

maddening · 07/07/2021 07:23

Are you a back sleeper? Gathering in to a yoke at the back might be uncomfortable for a back sleeper?

mizu · 07/07/2021 07:24

LOVE Toast pyjamas. I have a very old flannel nightshirt that has been repaired as it ripped under both arms a couple of years ago.

Most of my wardrobe is Toast too but mostly eBay and the odd bit in the sale.

The pyjamas are lovely. There are some gorgeous red Lotus print ones on there too.

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/07/2021 07:26

They are lovely. Hunt down a discount code and enjoy both pairs.

Perfectlystill · 07/07/2021 07:58

I hate Toast but agree with the premise that if you want them and can afford them, you bloody buy them! Can you update us please OP so we can live vicariously? @Labradabradorable

I am nightie person and nice nighties are rarer than hen's teeth. I love Bodas but they only make one style now, which I have. Bonsoir are just cut slightly wrong for me.

Does anyone have links to nice cotton knee length nighties, preferably with shortish sleeves? But definitely sleeves.

Mumsnut · 07/07/2021 08:02

I once got a pair of Liberty silk pyjamas in their sale for £50, and two full length silk robes for £50 each

My sisters did well that Xmas

I barely take my eye off the sale now, but have never seen such an amazing reduction again

ghostyslovesheets · 07/07/2021 20:14

I just went to Primark (still bigging up their satin type PJ's) and got this whole set - it's lovely

www.primark.com/en/search?text=ivory+leaf (ignore the two odd bits out)

yes I know it's not fancy but it feels fancy

it's gorgeous I'm thinking I might wear it as a top with jeans!
