To splash out on pyjamas so expensive and louche they would make Bertie Worcester wince?

My historic pyjama choices have very much erred on the sensible side. Think and M and S two pack, polkadot and tartan (I draw the line at Disney characters, but only just).

Anyway, my business has had a hard but miraculously good year, considering. And I'm 43, so my mum can't tell me what to do anymore (well, she can and she does, but I'll not seek her frugal advice). And we finally have a grown up house, with older children, so no more sofas to buy or boobs to leek.

Surely in these circumstances, I can justify spending £125 on a pair of Toast pyjamas? Beautiful floral Indian cotton. Loose, light, probably smell of myrrh. I am reasonably confident they will make me feel like, at least, a dowager Duchess, and at best The Pursuit of Love's Linda in her very prime. I'm a hardworking woman with almost no other vices (almost...)

I spend a good deal of my life pyjama'd up. Surely this is a better use of the cash than a million other things I could use it for?

My finger has been hovering over the 'order' button all afternoon. Please someone, tell me I can.

They are lovely
Havr just written Toast Pjs on the Calandar for December.
When I cant think of anything I want for Christmas.

@VeniVidiWeeWee

Missing the point of the thread, but it's WOOSTER.
This is Bertie is from the distaff side of the family
Mummyoflittledragon · 06/07/2021 16:14

[quote Blossomtoes]Do it. But before you do, have you seen these?

Crikey for that price I would expect some sort of pattern matching!

onemouseplace · 06/07/2021 16:15

[quote Blossomtoes]Obviously not in the same league as Toast or Liberty but I’ve had this for years and wafting about in it makes me feel like a 50s film-star.

I have this as well and I absolutely love it! I found it in a local boutique-style gift shop after Nigella wore her Venice one and you couldn't get them for love nor money!

My favourite luxury PJs are Desmond and Dempsey as well - I totally agree that on a cost-per-wear basis they are really good value (relatively speaking of course).

lakesummer · 06/07/2021 16:15

I have horrible visions of spilling tea over my PJ's blossomtoes or something going wrong washing them.

I practically passed out when I realized how much DH had spent.

But they should be worn, I know that.

AlfonsoTheMango · 06/07/2021 16:16

@Beendownthisroadmorethantwice

See the problem with going down this route is that then your bedding will seem drab and boring in compassion.

Next thing you know you’re in a gold plated double king bed with sheets made of 1million thread count Egyptian cotton and pillows made of raw silk.

You say that as if there's a problem with that. Personally, I think the OP should go for it.
Marylou2 · 06/07/2021 16:16

Oh you absolutely must have them OP. Hope they're as lovely as they look.
Wishing fervently I hadn't clicked on the links to Shibumi. How can I live without a Dragonfly green silk cashmere gown now?

JovialNickname · 06/07/2021 16:18

Do it! Wasn't this what you always wanted, when you hoped to have an affluent lifestyle? The things you sacrificed, and went without, to do well. And now you have these choices.... make the most of them... enjoy and have what makes you happy xx

Blossomtoes · 06/07/2021 16:22

These are amazing and ethically produced: powellcraftboutique.com/collections/ladies-pyjamas
Oh. My. Goodness. Beautiful and affordable. Thank you so much. 😍

[quote ghostyslovesheets]I love this from Primark

I'm glad you posted ...I have this and was wondering what on earth was wrong with me to feel so glam wafting around in it, when clearly that feeling can only go with the far more superior expensive silk or cashmere versions proposed.

But it is lovely and comfy and much much nicer looking than the photo.

One of the saddest things ever was finding things my mum had “kept for best” after she died. It made me determined not to do it. I bet your lovely DH thinks you don’t like them and is longing to see you wear them.
IntermittentParps · 06/07/2021 16:29

Thanks Blossomtoes what have you done

Labradabradorable · 06/07/2021 16:33

MintyLovely Oh, I do love the Powell Craft ones too. The fabrics are so pretty. My daughter used to wear their beautiful dresses when she was too young to object.

On a more serious note, I agree with the PP that workers who make the garments should be fairly paid, and I would hope that they are. I do find it quite amazing that anyone (although each to their own) could describe traditionally produced, naturally dyed South Asian cotton as being 'bargain basement'. There's a shop close to us specialises in these fabrics in various forms, and it is a joy to see the designs, colour and craftmanship.

I was in your position a while ago. I had just landed a £450 a day six month contract, the second in a year, and a £300 set of Versace silk pyjamas (the classy, timeless sort, not the hideous kind) cried out to me on Yoox even though I had just got married and, well, we didn't wear pyjamas an awful lot...

Six years on, I have had a total of nine days paid work since that contract ended. I've got under £100 in my bank account until our next child benefit payment in two weeks time. The fucking pyjamas are still in the drawer, unopened, wagging their finger at me.

fussychica · 06/07/2021 16:37

Crack cocaine indeed!
Fortunately for my wallet I have recently renewed all my pjs, including a lovely summer robe or I would have got carried away. For me it's those beautiful reversible robes and the powellcraftboutique pjs that appealed. I have made a note for future birthdays and Christmases as I'm always at a loss for suggestions.

The toast ones weren't for me but if you love them buy them, you know you're worth it!

I do too! I also have a long pink one from Primark that makes me feel like Gillian Anderson in sex education 😂

I feel the same way for the same reasons @Blossomtoes beautiful unused perfume that was spoiled, lovely clothes never worn and crockery unused. Enjoy the lovely things as much as possible.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 06/07/2021 16:43

Not the point but they make you pay £3 for delivery on over £100 worth of goods? Tight!

Howdidigetsoold · 06/07/2021 16:46

I just ordered PJs that I don’t need from powellcraft.....

IARTNS · 06/07/2021 16:49

Sorry thread highjack - are cyberjammies true to size? Going to put an order in Grin

RosesAndHellebores · 06/07/2021 16:50

Just do it. A stupendous dressing gown is also worth it.

I know Toast is a bit marmite on MN, but I love a lot of their stuff. All of my Toast pieces still look as good as new - the quality is fabulous, in my experience. They also repair garments for free.

I've bought from them for 15 years - only good things to report.

They are made in India, I wonder how much the Indian workers get out of that? I would want to know how much Toast pay their workers first

Their ethical policy can be seen here www.toa.st/pages/ethical-policy

Standrewsschool · 06/07/2021 17:02

If you can afford it, treat yourself

(...still wearing nighties I bought in BHS, which closed years ago, runs and hides head in shame)
