To splash out on pyjamas so expensive and louche they would make Bertie Worcester wince?

My historic pyjama choices have very much erred on the sensible side. Think and M and S two pack, polkadot and tartan (I draw the line at Disney characters, but only just).

Anyway, my business has had a hard but miraculously good year, considering. And I'm 43, so my mum can't tell me what to do anymore (well, she can and she does, but I'll not seek her frugal advice). And we finally have a grown up house, with older children, so no more sofas to buy or boobs to leek.

Surely in these circumstances, I can justify spending £125 on a pair of Toast pyjamas? Beautiful floral Indian cotton. Loose, light, probably smell of myrrh. I am reasonably confident they will make me feel like, at least, a dowager Duchess, and at best The Pursuit of Love's Linda in her very prime. I'm a hardworking woman with almost no other vices (almost...)

I spend a good deal of my life pyjama'd up. Surely this is a better use of the cash than a million other things I could use it for?

My finger has been hovering over the 'order' button all afternoon. Please someone, tell me I can.

Why do pyjama trousers have pockets?

Ringsender2 · 06/07/2021 17:09

@ThursdayWeld

I don't think you should. Pop the money in a nice sensible ISA instead.

While we're talking fantasy pjs, have you seen these?

chesirecat99 · 06/07/2021 17:14

Liberty often has bargains in the sale.

Currently, silk Liberty print PJs or a chemise reduced from £425 to £170 and £130 respectively. Tana lawn PJs reduced to £145.

@Georgyporky

Why do pyjama trousers have pockets?
Because they are the best things ever made, clearly.
sillybut · 06/07/2021 17:16

Have you looked in the sale? A similar design:

pyjamas

and obviously you'll need matching gown

fitflopqueen · 06/07/2021 17:17

Treat yourself and don't regret it.
I had these desmondanddempsey.com/collections/womens-pyjama-sets for Xmas from my husband, wore them very happily then happened to see the price a bit later. They are now in the drawer for high days and holidays Wink

mintylovely · 06/07/2021 17:18

@Howdidigetsoold

I just ordered PJs that I don’t need from powellcraft.....
😁 enjoy! They sent me a free little lavender heart thing too.
mintylovely · 06/07/2021 17:20

I absolutely coveted the Liberty silk pyjamas right until I got to the bit of text saying they were dry clean only.

I love everything One Hundred Stars and the robes are so beautiful.

hollyangel · 06/07/2021 17:21

@fitflopqueen Wear them all the time, life is short!

noodlezoodle · 06/07/2021 17:21

OP have you ordered them yet? Hurry!

I have some PJs from Printfresh and although they were a bit pricey, the fabric is really lovely quality as well as a gorgeous print. Highly recommended!

Seesawmummadaw · 06/07/2021 17:23

If you think of cost per wear they aren’t that expensive Wink

AWonderfulNewName · 06/07/2021 17:25

I don't wear PJs but I have bought ridiculously expensive bedding and silk pillowcases.
OMG, every time I go to bed it's the most luxurious feel. Money totally well spent :)

Lilypansy · 06/07/2021 17:26

I have pyjama envy ....

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/07/2021 17:26

I thought I was spending a lot on pyjamas as I've started buying Chelsea Peers ones. They're so lovely and I got 3 sets the other day and they came in a lovely box. DP doesn't understand Grin

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 06/07/2021 17:30

Toast is wonderful and you should definitely get them.

However that Shibumi site is something else, good god I love them all!

SecretSpAD · 06/07/2021 17:31

If you haven't already done it, do it.

RickiTarr · 06/07/2021 17:36

I’ve been eyeing the same ones for months. I can’t decide if a spell in hospital would be a good enough excuse.

Raaraaboonah · 06/07/2021 17:36

This has given me a delightful distraction from a rubbish afternoon.

But what i really want to know is which ones fit well enough so your boobs don't spend half then night falling out of them or squirrel so far up your bum while you are sleeping you spend a good 10 mins before you leave the bed trying to pull them out.... or is that just me?

Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed · 06/07/2021 17:36

Anyone else know Bonsoir, not cheap but worth every penny. Got 2 nightgowns over 7yrs ago. Still going strong 2 kids, bf later. And every year I treat myself to a pj set. Still evening up the silk robes and PJ's when a pay rise happens. ❤️

Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed · 06/07/2021 17:37

That's why you sleep naked 🤭

Mrsmadevans · 06/07/2021 17:39

l am sorry OP but l must be the only person here who thinks they are like Granny Greyballs pj's lE old fashioned they will need ironing Shock
Sorry, l will go and get my eyes tested Grin

longtompot · 06/07/2021 17:39

@MaskingForIt

Do it. I haven’t bought expensive pyjamas but I have spent rather a lot of money on Liberty fabric and made my own.
I have saved the image of the dressing gown the lady made on Great British Sewing Bee several years ago in Liberty lawn fabric. I've yet to buy the fabric or pattern, but will do, one day.
MagicSummer · 06/07/2021 17:40

Is there a link to the velvet gown, please? Love these pyjamas but how do you stop them riding up your legs at night? I really hate that.

Redkey · 06/07/2021 17:44

@LeonardLikesThisPost

Ooh I have a Toast dressing gown. Treated myself last summer. It's just cotton, but it's so soft and has this very cool Japanese feel, something about the cut, I think.

Worth every penny for how much enjoyment I get every time I wear it.

Me too - really love it! Most of my wardrobe is Toast - I just need a drafty old country house now to complete the look!
