It's all kicking off on ours! A local counsellor has put up access only signs on local roads that people use to avoid the massive traffic jams on the one main road out of the village. If you don't use the local roads you can be sitting in traffic for 45 mins.

This morning villagers sat in the street to stop people using the road, it's split the community! Grin up in arms they are!

What's happening in yours ?

The usual amount of how 'this town has gone to shit' because someone saw some teenagers not in school (year 11 are done for starters); racism and look out i saw a person look in the direction of my child at the park type bs. Then there was a really weird bragging post about how when they were doing a litter pick in our area (they were from the next town) some helpful child had offered to help (they weren't trying to thank the child so I was a bit bemused - unfortunately that turned into a political bunfight because some Tory pointed out they'd done a litter pick as though somehow no one of the left ever did). But it was a refreshing change from the kid hating, declaring everyone else a criminal and racism.

randomkey123 · 30/06/2021 13:00

Ours has the usual dog mess/lost cat/feral kids posts.... but one joker twat has now started posting parodies ie two local teenagers seen outside village hall, i fear that they are up to no good sort of thing.

Only it's not remotely funny because their kids were the most feral ever and one of the little shits actually knocked the village hall down driving into it in a stolen car whilst high on drugs..... and it had just been renovated with a lottery grant.

I have to restrain from posting back............. Grin

SaltAndVinegarSandwiches · 30/06/2021 13:03

Not my town but my hometown where I grew up there are groups of 12-15 year old boys on bikes who have taken to deliberately swerving in front of cars, forcing them to break suddenly. People were posting about it, warning drivers and parents in case their kids were involved. Loads of replies saying 'kids will be kids' or 'what do you expect kids to do if they can't cycle around town, god people are always moaning'.

Doughnut/doughnut memes have been brilliant and also made me crave them (but not at £9)

Febo24 · 30/06/2021 13:30

Ah yes, the 'look what I did for charity' - if you don't post, it didn't happen!

PopAyetheSailorMam · 30/06/2021 13:32

Hot topic since the weekend (SW) fireworks.

Oh yes. And we get lots of 'I hope the old man who fell over outside the shops who I helped up and got home is ok' just to let everyone know they did a good deed.

One of todays posts is "I've got an injured Magpie in my conservatory - can someone come and collect it"

Who are they hoping will come for it?

Hax · 30/06/2021 14:45

Funnily enough we also have a lost bench! It was there yesterday and now it's not.

Lost cat.
Open gardens.
Missing parcel.
Lost cat.
Did anyone else have a power cut? (Yes).
Can't get through to doctors.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 30/06/2021 14:46

We had a lost ferret the other day - peak northern 😂

And today we’ve had a post on the local news group about the 3 ps and being prepared for when you get Covid - seems to be a sea change in the media approach of a few weeks ago when it was avoiding getting Covid

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 30/06/2021 15:12

The fish and chip shop has been taken over. It's currently named after a previous owner who has long since passed away.

The new owner is keeping the same staff but changing the name of the chippy and opening a Chinese takeaway in the currently disused space above the shop.

Loads of people are up in arms over the name change and are vowing never to set foot in it ever again.

Just looking at the top 4 posts in my local group.

  1. A load of bees have been sighted near a wall and to watch out for them.
  2. There's a bad pothole in a road, watch out for it.
3 . A cat is missing.
  1. Does anyone want this sofa?
Theoldcuriosityshop · 30/06/2021 18:12

Someone found an injured mouse. Loads of people pleading with her to take it to a vet.
Mice are vermin for goodness sake, the vet would probably euthanise it anyway.

Also cries of whose cat is this after it appears randomly, there's always one idiot that says they'll have it. My gardens full of odd cats I wouldn't dream of rehoming any of themHmm

TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 30/06/2021 18:18

-agressive peacock
-stag stuck in a field
-new speed limits
-a goat in the street
-arguing over some street improvements and the quality of them

Lactarius · 30/06/2021 18:21

The most recent 'excitement' were posts asking what all the police and ambulances were doing on the estate. This was removed just as I was about to reply as the moderator didn't want anyone upset. So I just started a new post to say that it was understandable that people were curious but they were all there because I had just found my teenage son dead in his bed.

It's been remarkably quiet since then.

In my area there is a bird sanctuary and the person who runs it will come collect an injured bird.

@Lactarius I am so sorry for the loss of your boy.

randomkey123 · 30/06/2021 18:38

@Lactarius what an awful shock for you....... I'm so sorry for your loss.

TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 30/06/2021 18:40

@Lactarius I’m so sorry

JustMeAndWheatley · 30/06/2021 18:41

So sorry Lactarius . There are no words….

Welshmaenad · 30/06/2021 18:41
  • a local roofer see s to have vanished with someone's money without doing the work and it's caused much discussion.
  • people who really dislike the new one way system arguing with people who think the new one way system is great.
  • local councillor resigns after his sworn enemy, the former councillor, slated him all over FB for going on holiday to Spain then isolating properly and taking his Covid tests whilst he did so. Follow up posts criticising said former councillor for slandering him in FB and blocking him and his wife, former councillor disputes the blocking. Nobody can understand why he resigned. It's all very confusing.
TheSockMonster · 30/06/2021 20:43

Oh Lactarius I am so sorry, I just don’t have the words. Your poor lovely boy Sad

FunnyWonder · 30/06/2021 20:53

Oh my goodness @Lactarius that is just so awful for you. I'm very sorry for your loss.
