To ask how old your sofa is?

Purchasing a new property with DP, we currently have a blue bulky recliner sofa. It only seats two people. I want to get a new bigger one, that isn’t blue or pleather, he says i’m being unreasonable as the sofa is only 2 years old…

I was scrolling the sofology website and they’re giving 20 year guarantees on sofas- i couldn’t imagine having mine for that long!

How old is your sofa and how often do you replace it?

Burnt0utMum · 18/06/2021 17:06

Mine is only a few months old. The one before that we only had for about 3 years but we moved house and wanted new decor and I just didn't like the old one anymore.

Hullabaloo31 · 18/06/2021 17:06

2 years. The ones we replaced were about 12 years old.

DinosaurDiana · 18/06/2021 17:06

We had this same thread recently. Sell yours or chuck it if you want to replace it.
We had our last sofa for over 20 years.

Unreasonabubble · 18/06/2021 17:07

17 years and still as good as new! Smile

NcagainNC · 18/06/2021 17:07

Last one we had for 20 years

Howshouldibehave · 18/06/2021 17:08

Bought in 2004-they are looking a bit shabby now but still v comfortable.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 18/06/2021 17:08

Sofa I’m currently sat on was bought last year

The other one is about 15 years old and boy does it look it, we are just about to move house so im hoping we get a new one very soon!

YesThisIsMe · 18/06/2021 17:08

About 20 years old, but we’re sticking with it and just about to reupholster because it was made to match our vintage armchairs.

DuggeeHugPlease · 18/06/2021 17:08

13 years - they do need replacing but won't do it until the kids are older and (hopefully) less messy

Tournesol · 18/06/2021 17:09

Ours are over 15 years old. They're not exactly show home ready but they still look decent and with 3 kids and a dog I am in no hurry to replace!

FuzzyPuffling · 18/06/2021 17:10

8 months old. but they replaced second hand ones that were around 12 years old.
The one in the study is 30 years old.

WhateverJohnnyMcNofriends · 18/06/2021 17:10

I bought mine second hand 12 years ago, I think it was a couple of years old when I bought it.
It's still comfortable although we are considering getting it recovered.

My parents have had theirs for over 40 years, though they have had it reupholstered twice so it might be like Trigger's broom at this point.

Missillusioned · 18/06/2021 17:10

18 years old. Leather and still looks good. I'm not sure a fabric one would have done, as we went through the toddler years though.

No plans to replace it in the near future.

ApplesandBananas21 · 18/06/2021 17:11

Year old atm, before that it was 6 year old.
Only reason being we changed our deco quite drastically otherwise would have kept them!

stealthninjamum · 18/06/2021 17:11

2 from Sofa Warehouse that are about 15 years old but look brand new and 2 from Marks and Spencer that are about 10 years old and still look newish.

I wouldn’t be impressed if my partner wanted to replace a two year old sofa.

Marmite27 · 18/06/2021 17:11

11 years and I’ve not replaced it yet. There’s still lots of life left in it and we deliberately didn’t buy a fashionable colour / shape

HoppSuisse · 18/06/2021 17:11

Current one is about 3 years (and a keeper).
It replaced one I'd paid a lot for and only had for two years - but I HATED it. It was cream leather - huge mistake. Freezing in winter, stuck to it in summer and always looked grubby.
Life is too short to be living on a sofa you hate!

PinkCast · 18/06/2021 17:12

We're in our house 20yrs and are on our 3rd sofa (which is less than 2 years old) - so I guess we're averaging 9-10 years for a sofa.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 18/06/2021 17:13

17 years here too and still OK. I can see it might need replacing in a few years time but I'd go for something similar.

sbhydrogen · 18/06/2021 17:13

One is 3.5 years old and the other is 1.5 years. Both are doing very well, I hope we don't need to replace them for some time yet!

MissCruellaDeVil · 18/06/2021 17:14

Bought mine a few months back, before that was my mums old ones so 10+ years!

ForeverSinging · 18/06/2021 17:14

5 years old, still look great.

MrsDThomas · 18/06/2021 17:15

10 years old and part of it id in pieces. The “leather” has picked off.

Can’t wait to buy a new corner fabric sofa next summer and decorate the room.

chipsandpeas · 18/06/2021 17:16

nearly 11 years ago, from scs and is still in ok condition

QueenMabby · 18/06/2021 17:16

The sofa and armchair in the sitting room are about 20 years old. They’re being reupholstered next month as we’re redoing that room. I expect them to last for at least another decade.
The corner sofa in the den is about 3 years old but that didn’t replace anything - I expect to keep it for about 10 - 15 years.
